Tintagel Castle is located on the peninsula of Tintagel Island. The medieval castle was originally built by Richard, Earl of Cornwall. Later it fell into disrepair and is now a ruin. What makes the castle a particular attraction is its links, however mysterious, to Arthurian legends as it was written by Geoffrey of Monmouth that this was the birth place of King Arthur.

Tintagel is a stunning place to visit and has a certain magical air about it. The cliffs are awe inspiring! Visitors can visit Merlin's cave situated on the beach below the castle and can also climb the 100 or so steep steps up to Tintagel Island.

All parking is in Tintagel village. There is a cafe opposite the castle entrance and dogs on leads are welcome. Regular guided tours are available.
