Here we have a fantastic family attraction set within the beautiful grounds of an old North Cornwall country estate. Owned by the Bude-Stratton town council, The Castle Bude is a heritage centre housed within the former home of Sir Goldsworthy Gurney, a renowned Victorian inventor and engineer.
The main focus of the centre is to relate the progress of Bude - once a small working port - into a major seaside resort and surfing destination. Thousands of visitors flock to this part of North Cornwall every year, attracted by sandy beaches and unspoilt countryside. In addition to Bude's economic development, the collection is also interested in the geology, social and natural history of the area, with artefacts, information and an extensive archive on the subject. This archive is a particularly valuable rescource for those interested in discovering more about the area, or tracing their family tree. Upstairs, the journey continues with The Willoughby Gallery, a space which offers artists, groups and organisations the chance to display their work. For a calendar of current and upcoming exhibitions and events, please visit the Castle Bude website.
The Castle also has a shop and a restaurant, however, on a beautiful day you might prefer to eat out on the green - a perfect spot for a picnic in the sun!
