Wonderful spacious cottage in a lovely location

We had a really wonderful stay at Whim Cottage, so much so that we are thinking of re-booking for next year! The cottage is exceptionally clean and spacious. The bathrooms are excellent, modern and very clean with lots of space. The kitchen is well equipped and the open plan layout works really well. Outside there is a large garden. The location is fabulous, it only takes 15 minutes to walk to the Pandora Pub for excellent food and amazing views of the Fal, alternatively there is a lovely circular coastal path walk to the village of Mylor. Mylor itself has everything you need, great butchers and fishmonger, excellent little village shop (we didn't visit a large supermarket once!), and if you are travelling with a young family a lovely park and great spot for crabbing (just the opposite side the park). All in all this is a really great cottage and I find it hard to fault.

Property Excellent. Pubs and Walks very good.

The location was very good for visiting places of interest and walks close to the property. You need to be fit, due to some steep hills when walking to the pubs close to the property. The two pubs close to the property served very good food and the staff members very helpful and friendly.

Wonderful stay at Whim!

A truly relaxing week spent at Whim Cottage, with family and our 2 dogs, visiting our Son and Uni. The Cottage has absolutely everything you would wish for and the location is beautiful. A short walk takes you too easily to The Pandora Inn and the waters edge and Mylor has wonderful amenities, along with the cafe at Mylor Harbour offering great food.

Hidden Gem

Situated in a very quiet lane, this cottage was a home from home experience. A wonderful garden too. Close to amenities. Two pubs within walking distance. Also a well stocked local shop just a mile away. Lots of wonderful walks. A very clean and comfortable place with a great woodburner. Our dog was very settled there but the only downside was that we werenA?t permitted to leave him in the cottage unattended (though I understand why). Definitely will be returning.

Fabulous Winter Break.

Had a lovely weekA?s stay at Whim Cottage near Mylor Bridge. Lovely location near the beach and just under a mile away from the Pandora pub and the facilities of Mylor bridge which include an excellent general store, butcher, P.O and Newsagent. The Lemon Tree pub is also well worth a visit. The cottage is superbly equipped and the owners most friendly and welcoming. The location is perfect for exploring the beautiful county of Cornwall with some fabulous walks on your doorstep.

Very Happy New Year family break in Cornwall

We decided to have a family break so we could be together and see the New Year in. Whim Cottage was the accommodation we stayed in having booked on-line with A?Cornwall CottagesA? , it was situated in a lovely part of Cornwall benefitting from both the countryside and the coast, lovely for dog owners and keen walkers, very central for car owners to explore other parts of Cornwall. Accommodation was spotlessly clean, heating excellent, every detail thought through carefully to ensure a very enjoyable break, no issues throughout our stay. We would recommend Whim Cottage to anyone travelling to Cornwall for a holiday. Thank You to Paul and Helen

Fantastic Cottage

Amazing cottage in quiet secluded area but walking distance to village and pubs and short drive to Falmouth as well as many wonderful attractions and beaches in the area. The cottage was immaculate, very clean, nicely decorated and looked brand new. Really lovely gardens for BBQ and big bedrooms so fitted family of 7 (including a cot) easily. Would not hesitate to recommend this cottage and the area.

Paradise found.

From the moment we pulled up in the car outside Whim cottage we new we had found a little gem ! Its tucked away in a quiet spot away from the hustle & bustle & a great place to get away from it all. We opened the front door into a fair sized kitchen/diner/lounge area. The cottage was spotlessly clean & tidy. There were 3 large bed rooms ,1 on the ground floor en suit that was ideal for my 87 year old mother-in-law. Upstairs there were 2 large bedrooms & a family bathroom that were that were beautiful. There was also a nice garden at the back with a seating area which was perfect for eating or just supping on a glass of wine in the evening. It was only a short walk to the river which was stunning & only a 15 minute walk to either of the local pubs. We ate at the Lemon arms most evenings. The food was excellent & good value. The other pub, The Pandora Inn is a must. The food is a little more expensive but it is one of the best pub meals we have ever had & in the most amazing location. There is very limited parking & we recommend you book a table. All in all we would recommend whim cottage to anyone & we look forward to our next visit !

Fantastic cottage

This is our second stay at this cottage, it is so good. It has all the equipment you could need, plenty of kitchen equipment etc. The garden is lovely and the double rooms are a great size. We had 6 adults and 1 large dog and did not feel crowded. Unlike some cottages there is enough comfortable seating in the sitting room for 6. We had visitors and the garden is great for a BBQ. It is a lovely location for walks along the edge of the Fall, and very conveniently located for lunch or tea at the Pandora Inn. Restronguet is off the beaten track but only a few minutes from Falmouth and all itA?s facilities.

Perfect stay!

From the moment we arrived to the time we left everything was fantastic! It truly was a home from home experience, there wasnA?t anything the cottage didnA?t provide. None of us wanted to leave & we will definitely be coming back. The location was fab, lots of walks around & we took advantage of the local pub, the pandora! Well worth a visit. It was nice to see the photos of the cottage being developed and to see the hard work put in. Thank you to the owners for providing such an amazing place.

Absolute great place in an idyllic location. the house was beautiful, the log burner fire worked extremely well with the underfloor heating system. There's always plenty of hot water and the showers were excellent, we cooked a fabulous Christmas dinner the house had everything you would need. The walks around that area were fantastic with sea views. Our dog Stella enjoyed walking over the road to see the larmer's every morning. The walk to the Pandora Inn across the private beach is always rewarding with excellent food and local beers.

What a lovely place!

Whim Cottage is a fabulous cottage in a delightful location. It's very rural yet within five minutes walk of a small beach and easy road access to Falmouth, Truro and the rest of south west Cornwall. The house has been beautifully done by the owners who themselves said their standards were those of their own home. Access is straightforward, parking easy & direct, the garden enclosed & safe, and even touches like bespoke stair gates to prevent curious dogs or children getting up or down prove the point. There's every piece of equipment we needed and the underfloor heating keeps it very toasty, even before the woodturner kicks in! The renovation picture book that tells the story of the journey from cowshed to cottage is quite something and shows the effort and attention that has gone in to the place. Now it's a comfortable relaxing high quality place to enjoy.

A very comfortable place to stay

Whim cottage was an excellent place to spend our holiday . The facilities in the cottage were excellent , everything was clean and of a good standard. The Bedrooms were spacious and the garden provided an extra space for relaxing or eating . We found it easy to walk around the area but be aware that the cottage is at the top of a hill so there is some hard yards on any return journey . Lemon Arms in Mylor Bridge and The Pandora Inn on the river both offer good pub food and flexible dinning arrangements .

Relaxing stay in a well equipped cottage

We visit this part of Cornwall most years to catch up with friends, this has been one of our best stays. The cottage was well equipped, which allowed us to prepare a meal for 9! The beds and sofa were comfortable and the garden was lovely for the children to play in and for the older members to relax in and chill. The coastal walks are lovely in this area, although there are some steep hills. The Pandora Inn is a wonderful place to have lunch or tea by the creek, the food is very good and they are very flexible for people with special dietary requirements. When we return to the Mylor area in the future we will look to see if this cottage is free first.

Loved it from walking in the door, homely, clean and everything you needed. Personal touches and essentials like tea, coffee sugar, milk were perfect after the long drive. Whim Cottage and the Fal Estuary

Whim Cottage is well-placed for exploring the beautiful region around the Fal Estuary. It is close to the useful general stores/fish shop/paper shop at Mylor Bridge and within walking distance of the famous and picturesque Pandora Inn. Mylor yachting marina and harbour nearby has good cafes and restaurants and it possible to walk from there around the coast path to Flushing. The gardens at Trelissick, Trebah and Glendurgan are superb in the springtime and are reachable by car. The National Maritime Museum at Falmouth and Pendennis Castle are well worth visiting. Further afield, the Roseland peninsula, St. Mawes (including its castle) and St Anthony's Head are all superbly situated. All around the Fal Estuary there are superb coastal walks which should not be missed. Do enjoy all that this area has to offer.

A delightful week despite some awful weather

Whim Cottage is a delightful retreat and perfect for those interested in walking and exploring Cornwall. We visited several of the main attractions the region offers and all were easily accessible. The cottage itself was perfect for the dogs and the garden ideal for them. The accommodation has that cottage feel but has been renovated to a high standard and the 2 upstairs bedroom are of excellent size. The only negative were several (three) dogs roaming nearby that would stroll up to the door and set our dogs off and one large black dog who decided our car was an ideal toilet spot for the week!

From the Owner:
Thank you for your review. We were so pleased you enjoyed the cottage and the location. The walks and views are amazing and we love being here. I am sorry nearby farm dogs were a negative. We will keep your review in mind and may make adjustments at the entrance to the cottage. Kind regards Hilary and Paul Parkinson

Great cottage, great location, great dog-friendly local pub

A well-equipped, clean, comfy cottage that was even better than it looked on the website. Our friends arrived just before us and were greeted with a warm fire, fresh flowers on the kitchen table, milk in the fridge and some lovely local buns. The Pandora Inn is dog friendly and just a ten/fifteen walk away - very cosy and great menu, and a key reason we choose Whim Cottage so that we had somewhere we could walk to and eat with the pooch in tow. Lots of lovely areas to explore, right from the doorstep our just a short drive away. All in all, a fantastic week.

A Late Break for a Week in Cornwall

What an excellent holiday rental, we had four adults and two children and not forgetting our 10 year old Cocker Spanial all arriving at Whim Cottage on Friday 25th September 2015 for a week. The cottage is adjoined to the owners own home and in turn to a structure which houses the Whim, originally operated by three oxen employed through the Whim and its associated equipment to thresh cereal crops. Then the hamlet has a large farm which is owned by the owners parents. The farm is run by two brothers who with some state of the art equipment , produce championship malted barley for the brewing industry. Back to the cottage, when you step into the cottage you can immediately see that everything is fitted to a high standard, each bedroom has an en-suite or a bathroom, each bedroom is a double bedroom. The ground floor of the cottage has one bedroom and an ensuite and then there is the kitchen, diner and lounge area. Again the associated equipment is totally functional and of a high standard. A range cooker with a halogen glass cooking surface, masses of storage,an modern washing machine with a dryer built in, a microwave oven and a breakfast bar, finally a thoroughly modern refrigerator and freezer. The lounge has a "Smart" television and DVDs player and there is very good Wi-Fi service across the whole cottage shortly to be upgraded to fibre technology. The garden is great and is satisfactorily landscaped with a patio seating area. The cottage enjoys underfloor heating on the ground floor and radiators for the first floor. Heat is supplied by a ground source heating system, in addition there is abundant hot water to cover all needs. Off road parking is to the front of the cottage and could accommodate three vehicles if parked with care. We were lucky in the extreme with a week of warm clear weather. The walks are great with views to die for over the Fal Estuary and surrounding valleys and hills. There is a village close by with local facilities, including pubs, a shop, butcher, fishmonger etc. The surrounding area offers many attractions including quaint harbours, sailing, canoeing, river trips, walking and shops with many restaurants in town providing food to suit all tastes. In all Whim Cottage is very good indeed and would suit any family indeed. I personally commend it for a great holiday location.

Happy and enjoyable stay at Whim cottage

Beautiful, well equipped cottage exactly matching description. Ideal enclosed garden just right for dogs. Nice outdoor seating area which we were unable to make full use of because weather was n' t good enough. Lovely bedrooms and comfortable beds. Bathroom and ensuites pristine and modern. The kitchen and dining area was compact and pleasant. The sofas, however, were not very comfortable for relaxing in especially for older people, and after long walks we needed somewhere comfortable to sit down. For us , this was the only real down side to an otherwise very enjoyable stay.

From the Owner:
Thank you for your review. We were glad to read you enjoyed your stay but we were disappointed that you did not find the sofas comfortable. We did choose them with comfort in mind and felt that John Lewis sofas were a good choice. We have been pleased with them and we're so sorry you were not. Be assured we will keep your review in mind when we have to replace them. kind regards Hilary and Paul

Great location

Lovely stay at Whim Cottage although due to the weather it was a bit chilly, the wood burning stove was a real treat. Evening walks to the Pandora Inn for evening drinks and crabbing we're appreciated by parents and children alike.

A great two weeks.

We will have very fond memories of our stay at Whim Barn. It was a great base for exploring the Cornish coastline, with a good harbour (Mylor) nearby with boats for hire, together with the village shop and butchers which were really handy in prep for the BBQ's we had! The Pandora Inn is also a must, within walking distance, good food and a lovely setting by the river. The cottage itself offered everything we could wish for in a home from home, and we were genuinely sad to leave. That said, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a great place to holiday.

Wonderful stay!

Whim Cottage is a delightful place to stay. It is spotlessly clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The cottage has been beautifully restored, with lots of very impressive green credentials. It is a great idea to be able to rent just the downstairs of the cottage at a reduced rate, as you can enjoy all the facilities and space as a couple that you would get as a larger group. Hilary and Paul are great hosts, not in your face, but there if you need them, and always concerned for your comfort. Hilary was very concerned in case we were cold, as she had switched over to the summer quilt halfway through our holiday and they very kindly returned my camera charger, which I had left behind! The location of Whim Cottage is also great. We were a little concerned on first arriving that it may be too remote, but we couldn't have been more wrong. It was quiet and peaceful, but within easy reach of all places of interest. The walks from the cottage are fantastic with beautiful views, which was ideal for us with our dog, and we took full advantage of being able to walk to some great dog-friendly places to eat, including the Pandora Inn, the Lemon Arms and Mylor CafA(C). Overall we had a wonderful holiday, and I hope that we will be able to return, not only to this part of Cornwall, but also to Whim Cottage.

Wonderful Cottage, Wonderful Location

We stayed at Whim Cottage for a week in early May. The cottage has been lovingly restored to a very high standard with top quality fixtures and fittings, the beds are very comfortable. There was a very warm welcome with milk tea and coffee provided, and the vase of flowers a sign of the owners thoughtfulness, the owners are close by for any queries without being at all intrusive. Like another reviewer we hesitate to recommend it too highly as we don't want to risk it not being available for us haha! We will definitely return

Lovely place to stay

We stayed at Whim Cottage for a week in the Easter holidays. It is a beautifully restored barn with all you could need and lovely finishing touches. Within walking distance of Mylor Bridge and Pandora's Inn (round the coastal path) it is great for exploring on foot and by car a range of beaches are close by. The owners were so helpful and our children very much appreciated the mini eggs left for them on arrival.

Fabulous!

Whim cottage is beautiful. It's been restored to a very high standard with every thought for the comfort of its guests. The beds are every comfortable, the bathrooms are very good quality with great showers and the kitchen is exceptionally well equipped. It has a lovely enclosed garden which is ideal if you bring your dog, as we did. Having three bedrooms and bathrooms makes it ideal for families. We were made to feel very welcome when we arrived on a cold wet afternoon, with a log fire already lit and fresh flowers in a vase on the table. The friendly, helpful owners live next door which is great if you need them, otherwise they will leave you in peace to enjoy your holiday. It's set in a beautiful part of Cornwall, very close to the Pandora inn and a little beach, and within easy reach of Falmouth. We loved it and will definitely book again. Highly recommended.

Great cottage

I'm a bit loath to enthuse too madly about Whim Cottage in case it gets fully booked next year!! Lovely cottage, beautifully renovated, comfortable bed. Also a quiet location though we did stay in October this year, not peak season. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely location

The cottage is beautiful and in a very lovely spot. Owners are very friendly. We found the downstairs bed so uncomfortable, it's a double -and my husband is 6ft5- and the attached bathroom so impractical as my husband had to stand sideways to clean his teeth and could not fit in the shower, we came home a day early. Shame, I think it' would ok to restrict use of the upstairs if you are giving AGBP60 discount for reduced occupancy but we would have rather paid full price and had some comfort. But it would be a fantastic cottage if you had access to it all and someone smaller was using the downstairs bedroom.

From the Owner:
Thank you for your review. We were pleased you enjoyed the location and loved the cottage, but were very sorry to read that the downstairs bedroom did not suit you and your husband. If you had mentioned your discomfort when we met on the Sunday we feel sure we could have helped you to have a full and comfortable stay. As you suggest, booking the whole cottage would have given you more choice, as upstairs the beds are a king size bed and one can be a super king which may well have suited a guest of 6'5". The bathrooms are also bigger upstairs, as shown in the details and on the floor plan. You were kind enough to say you would recommend the cottage, we hope that if you were to come again you will let us recommend the super king double bed for your stay.

A very comfortable barn

We were a family group of four adults and a Cocker Spaniel, who already knew the area well and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Whim Cottage. It was a very comfortable base for enjoying the wonderful creek walks and Falmouth on the doorstep, as well as favourites further afield - Kynance Cove, The Lizard, Cadgwith, St. Ives, Trelissick, Truro and Fowey. We recommend the walk from the barn, around the creeks to Flushing, then over to Falmouth by ferry for the more energetic. The Pandora Inn, a short walk away, is a must - for coffee, sundowners, dinner or all three! Mylor Bridge is a lovely village close by, which caters well for daily needs - groceries, papers, fresh fruit and vegetables and fresh fish. A few minutes by car, or a short walk down a footpath opposite the cottage. The barn was very clean and is thoughtfully equipped, it was lovely to have a bathroom each and we all found the beds really comfortable. It is unusual to have the choice of summer and winter duvets! The garden was well looked after, grass cut, fenced and so dog safe, washing line and a lovely seating area with a wooden table and chairs. We fitted three cars on the drive, without any problems. A big thank you to the owners, from us all. Heather from Dorchester

A perfect family holiday home

We have had many holidays in Cornwall, but Whim Cottage is by far the best accommodation that we have ever stayed in - beautifully furnished, and incredibly well equipped, the cottage is also located in a perfect place if you want to be able to access great walks, views and a super pub without having to drive. The beds were the most comfortable that we have ever stayed in, and there is even a luxury hand wash and hand cream in each of the three bathrooms. It was the little touches like that, which made our stay so pleasant - the kitchen is so well equipped that we were able to cook a Sunday roast and make a steamed syrup pudding from scratch, while reading the papers on a wet Sunday afternoon! I would definitely recommend this cottage for families. Thank you!

Pristine, picturesque, perfect property

Whim cottage is a delightful property which has been loving restored to a very high standard. The owners have considered every need in equipping the property, from an abundance of luxuriously soft towels to every cooking utensil you could ever use! The accommodation is suitable for all ages - the three generations that were present during our stay all loved the property and were well catered for. The rural location of the property provides the perfect base to explore the surrounding area, where you can be as adventurous or as leisurely as you choose. We booked Whim Cottage on a 'whim' and we are so glad that we did. We definitely recommend a stay in this hidden gem of a property. Fiona Sheridan
