Property Location

Situated only a mile away from the village of Mitchell with its lovely 16th Century pub, called the Plume of Feathers in the main street. The pub retains many of its original features and serves locally sourced food either in the restaurant or sit outside in the leafy beer garden on a warm summers day.

These days Newquay's excellent surfing waters are the town's main industry, where as it once used to be a major export port for the counties mining efforts as well as a north coast port for pilchard fisheries. Fistral Beach holds many surfing competitions throughout the year, and also hosts Run to the Sun over May Bank holiday, a VW and Custom Car Show. Both the Womens and Mens Gig Championships are held here, as a balloon festival and surf and lifesaving events. Newquay Zoo now houses 130 different species in sub tropical gardens in the centre of the town. Two miles away is The Lappa Valley Steam Railway which, offers both the old and young an interesting day out. Newquay Airport has made the north coast one of the easiest places in Cornwall to get to, with regular flights from various locations across the UK. The town also has an Aquarium, a Waterworld and numerous immensely pretty beaches for the less active. Trerice run by the National Trust is 3 miles outside of the town is an Elizabethan Manor House and Garden with restricted winter opening times.

Just 5.5 miles north west is Holywell Bay, a little village on the North coast between Perranporth and Newquay. It has a beautiful beach with fantastic sand dunes and a little stream for paddling for those daunted by the waves. In the summer months the beach is patrolled by lifeguards and of course, surfing lessons are available for those keen on learning.

Great stay in a very welcoming environment

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Wheel House. Some thoughtful extras on arrival and leaving were appeciated and our hosts were welcoming and very accommodating. Facilities met our expectations, the hot-tub was a great success and when we asked for advice Mark was very helpful. Given the numbers in our group and our need to be near Newquay airport this proved an excellent location for our exploration of Cornwall. A tip for anyone travelling with babies sleeping downstairs - the least 'creaky' walk across the lounge is in front of the fridge / cooker and worktop! And if people need constant access to the internet make sure you have good network connection. No fault of the hosts, but wi-fi connection is not good. Very happy to recommend this venue.

Great place to stay

Really enjoyed the property this time as we stayed in the piggery last year and had a brilliant time. Will definitely be booking again as the location is fantastic for days out and big enough to relax at the property if you fancy.

A wonderful break with three generations in an ideal setting

With three generations and 12 people to accommodate location and property are in short supply. The combination of the wheel house and the piggery was ideal. Peaceful and chilled. An ideal retreat yet close enough to the A30 to access the beauty of Cornwall.

Lovely cottage

Easy booking and checking into accommodation . Loved the cottage, clean and well stocked. Nice touch with chocolates and Prosecco on arrival. Hot tub was lovely ... used every night. My boys loved the games room. No complaints at all... just a couple of ideas for owners.... more mugs needed! And a few lights at entrance and outside areas would be nice.

Best cottage ever

Fully equipped, warm and spacious cottage. Great hot tub and the grounds are kept immaculately. The owners are most welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. On arrival we had a bottle of prosecco and chocolates and the cottage was even ready early for us. From beginning to end this stay at wheel house goonwinnow Farm was relaxing, and peaceful. Location is good it's just far enough away but close enough to get to what we needed. We were a family of 8 including two children under 3 and two very well behaved dogs. There is even a games room and sauna. They really have thought of everything!!! Will definitely return. The children loved the miniature donkeys.

Simply the best

Location fab, altho hot tub temp was a bit temperamental. Kitchen had everything and beds comfortable, floors creaky when going up and down the stairs but only to be expected with an older building. Never had wifi for a couple of days which was also expected. Water pressure not great in the shower but lots of home comforts like games for the kids to play.

Fantastic setting with lovely helpful owners. We couldn't have really asked for more, peaceful but only 10 minutes drive from a number of great locations and attractions. Both my kids (2 and 5 YO) loved the setting especially the parrots!!!! Thanks for a great week!!!!

A relaxing family holiday

I stayed at the wheelhouse with my husband, our two year old daughter, my parents, sister and her fiancA(C) and we all loved it. The cottage is in beautiful surroundings and really peaceful but you are only a short drive from Newquay, Perrenporth, Padsyow and many other lovely places. Our daughter loved walking around the farm visiting the donkeys and parrot and we all enjoyed the games room that had loads of toys for little ones. The owners were really friendly and discreet. The cottage itself was beautiful, very clean and homely. The kitchen had every piece of equipment you could need and it was great having a dish washer. We would highly recommend this cottage to people of all ages as it has something for everyone.

Would highly recommend to Goonwinnow Farm

This is our second time at Goonwinnow Farm, we have stayed in the Piggery and now the Wheel House, we have enjoyed both cottages, however preferred the Piggery to the Wheel House, but liked the hot tub being outside the Wheel House and not having to share. Goonwinnow Farm is central and easy access to so many places being just off the A30 but far enough into Mitchell Village for peace and tranquility we will be going back and we will recommend to friends and family, both Jane and Mick made us very welcome and made sure everything was perfect for our stay

Excellent place to stay

The Wheel House at Goonwinnow was a superb place to stay and use as a base to explore the wonders of Cornwall. It felt like a home from home it was that comfortable and we couldn't have been made to feel any more welcome. We would like to thank Jane and Mick for a great holiday home and we will certainly stay there again Andrew and Elaine

August holiday at goonwinnow farm

Peaceful setting and friendly welcome upon arrival. Upon entering the cottage there was chocolates, prosecco and flowers waiting for us along with milk and tea bags, nice touch! There is a play area for younger children and a games room with a pool table, table tennis, play football table, giant connect 4 and Jenga plus other toys for kids, a sauna room. The hot tub was a popular choice and was used almost daily! Down side is you need a car to go anywhere as really quite remote ( a good thing for us), so if ordering a take away you will have to fetch as many will not deliver it! There is a pub a mile away (Plume of feathers) nice food and dog/child friendly. Overall the accommodation is excellent and I would definately stay here again and recommend this place too! Thank you for a great holiday experience.

Wondefull Holiday at Wheel House at Goonwinnow

We had 3 pensioners Mum and Dad two kids and a dog and there was something for everyone great for a family holiday. The luxury of a hot tub and the openness of the country life all around and that's even before you start visiting all the lovely places near by. We visited the Eden Project, New Quay Fistral Beach, Padstow, Port Isacc & Land's End There were other places with castles and some super beaches. First Visit to Cornwall and won't be the last. Mind you the weather was ace. The House held 9 and was beautifully presented with immaculate soft furnishings towels and bedding. I would recommend this for a family holiday.

Easter break

We had a fabulous holiday at Goonwinnow. What a lovely place, peaceful and picturesque. A great location making it easy to get anywhere in Cornwall....which we did! The hot tub was an added bonus and both adults and children alike enjoyed getting in after a busy day being a tourist. I would truly recommend goonwinnow and we have already booked for next year! The owners have done a fantastic job and were so welcoming and helpful.

A lovely spot

It is a lovely spot and the family are great but I do t think it is "luxury" accommodation and felt it a little over priced. We had a good time and would recommend to friends.
