Property Location
St Austell was once the major producer of the worlds China Clay, now with cheaper foreign imports the industry is in decline but The Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum set in two former working pits depicts the countryside in years gone by. Wet weather activities could include the visitor centre at St Austell Brewery, sampling beers and ales made on the premises. The Eden Project hosts many bands throughout the season as well as featuring an Ice Rink out of season.
Bodmin was the former county town of Cornwall for many years and the only Cornish town to be recorded in the Domesday Book, which was lodged in the town's prison during the First World War. The county prison is now a museum and open to the public. It was the first prison in the country to have separate cells. The oldest part of the town is made up of mainly granite buildings clustered around the Bodmin Beacon. The Beacon is a 144 feet tall obelisk in memory of Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert. The area around the Beacon which has woodland and traditional hay meadow was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 1994. At Tregullon you are just 10 miles away from The Eden Project and 2 miles away from the National Trust's amazing Lanhydrock House.
Nearby Bodmin Moor, bisected by the newly expanded A30 is home to one of Cornwalls Areas of Oustanding Natural Beauty. Reaching a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwalls highest point. The heather covered granite moorland provides East Cornwall with the most stunning country views and rugged walks. Near Blisland you will find two of Cornwalls stone circles, the Trippet Stones and Stripple Stone Henge and just round the corner, one end of the famous Camel Trail. The 18 mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families.

Fantastic holiday!
Reviewed on 20/07/2022The first visit to Cornwall for me for over 20 years and the first visit our children aged 20 and 16 yrs. After what seemed like the longest journey ever, we found Treganoon Barn to be a delightful property in the countryside. The property exceeded our expectations, it was very roomy, pleasantly decorated and the owners had clearly catered for their visitors well. It was lovely to be greeted by Jenny and Pete who made us feel very welcome and even provided us with an delicious cream tea on arrival! Our stay was also enhanced with the sight of the local owl hunting to feed her babies! Many towns, villages and beaches visited during our stay, favourites being Polperro and Polkerris beach (thank you Jenny for that gem!) we also loved the Eden project nearby, a great day out. Overall we loved our stay here and will certainly visit again, highly recommended!

Characterful barn conversion off the beaten track
Reviewed on 22/06/2022The barn is exactly as pictured. It has really thick walls and has been converted really well to create a unique characterful home. Due to the nature of the building, some areas downstairs feel a little damp, and a very effective dehumidifier is provided for the round end bedroom, which helped a lot. The bathrooms never really dried out after use, with a lot of condensation, so towels needed to be kept out of that area to air (even new towels would feel damp if left in the bathroom) - again a result of the thick walled barn conversion. There is a dishwasher and plenty of crockery, but we found much of the cooking equipment needed to be washed prior to use. The WiFi worked well upstairs, but didnA?t reach reliably to the bedrooms downstairs. Similarly mobile phone reception was limited downstairs. ThereA?s freeview TV and a selection of DVDs - not that we were in much to need them! As is typical for Cornwall, the road access is single track with high hedges and regular passing places. This means it takes longer to get places than you might expect, but the plus side is the lovely peaceful location. The regular barn owl fly-pasts were really special. The Crown Inn in Lanlivery is walking distance (albeit partially on the road) and dog friendly, great food and a really interesting old pub steeped in history. We also had a lovely meal at SamA?s in Fowey after walking there on the coastal path from Polkerris. The barn is a great location for visiting the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, both of which worked well with the dog. Par beach is a good dog beach which is really local. We would highly recommend the Shackleton exhibition at the Charlestown shipwreck museum, which I think runs until October. Even took the dog here! Charlestown itself is cute and quirky with some lovely little shops and a couple of tall ships, and is close to the barn. St Ives was magical, the light there is incredible no matter the weather and there are plenty of galleries to browse. Overall a lovely peaceful holiday in a unique home, creating lots of lovely memories.

The best holiday in recent times
Reviewed on 08/06/2022We had a fabulous week at the barn. Jenny and Peter are brilliant. Absolutely the best vacation we had recently. We received a great welcome with scones and cream tea. They tasted phenomenal. Well worth it after a tiring long journey. The barn is cosy, clean and well equipped. The beds and beddings are comfortable and warm water is available through out. Jenny is absolutely brilliant and provided us with valuable inputs to look and eat around. We managed to cover many important attractions as the location is perfect to go around. We will definitely go again. Thank you Jenny and Peter

Excellent base for exploring Cornwall
Reviewed on 27/10/2021Treganoon Round Barn is a fabulous holiday home. It is extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need, with lots of extras that you wouldn't expect. The property is well laid out with good sized rooms, and the beds are very comfortable. It is bursting with character and has a real old-world charm. The owners, who live next door, proved to be very friendly and helpful but without being intrusive in any way. The location of the property is excellent, although the local network of single track lanes can be a little scary at times! All Cornwall's attractions are within easy reach. The local pub is fabulous, as is The Globe in nearby Lostwithiel, a lovely village that also has an amazing fish and chip shop! I and my friends had a fantastic holiday here and would definitely consider returning.

lovely place for a family holiday.
Reviewed on 20/06/2021Fantastic hosts who are prepared to go that extra mile for their guests, and we particularly liked the home baked scones as part of our welcome and Jenny being so helpful, including posting a watch we had left . Very child friendly with lots of thought put into provision for little ones. Good location, very quiet and safe with farm shops and a pub near by; the very narrow Cornish country lanes could be an issue for some but they were expected.

Rustic barn stay surrounded by countryside and well located to visit different areas & beaches
Reviewed on 16/09/2020We stayed for 7 nights as a group of four friends (after an overseas trip was cancelled due to Coronavirus). We loved the upside-down barn which had plenty of living accommodation and we spent most of our time in the kitchen cooking and sharing food around the big kitchen table. The barn was comfortable with all the amenities/crockery and kitchenware we needed. Having two bathrooms was handy for coming home sandy after days on the beach. We made use of the BBQ on a couple of nights which was great. It had a quaint outdoor space with chickens free roaming. There was plenty of space to park two cars behind the barn in a private area away from the road. It was well located for exploring different beaches (we went to Polkerris, Fowey, Mevagissey and Polstreath). We explored further afield on a few days to Padstow, St Michaels Mount (Marazion beach) and Kynance cove. There is a lovely pop up shop with local produce just down the road in the village and a farm shop near Fowey but all other big amenities of supermarkets and petrol stations in Bodmin just a few miles away. There is a pub (The Crown) only about a mile away too. The owners live nearby and were lovely and helpful, sharing local knowledge and making suggestions. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you!

Beautiful cottage in beautiful surroundings
Reviewed on 09/10/2019We felt at home the minute we got there, very comfortable with all home comforts. The beds were lovely, and plenty of room. Everything well spaced out so didnA?t fall over each other. Owners were helpful and friendly. Barn owls nesting next door in owners barn, so saw them most nights flying. Also sparrowhawk, buzzard, and loads of little birds too, blue tits, house sparrows, coal tits etc. Wonderful local produce down the road too in farm shops. Would happily return here.

A beautiful, very well equipped cottage which we recommend.
Reviewed on 19/06/2019The cottage is lovely, very well equipped and very comfortable and the owners made us extremely welcome with a cream tea on arrival and also providing basics such as tea, coffee and milk and loo roll - so welcome after a long journey. We had our dog with us and we had permission to walk her in a wonderful field, being turned into woodland, at the end of the drive. This was excellent for quick morning and evening walks. The only reason I haven't given the condition excellent as well is that there was an unpleasant smell, which came and went, from the shower drain - probably inevitable considering the location. I would highly recommend this rental.

Late August stay
Reviewed on 12/09/2018Cottage is in a remote area but only about 15 drive from Fowey and Lostwithiel. Cottage itself was clean and a good size. Upstairs you have a kitchen/dinning area. Most evenings we cooked and utensils/pans were adequate. Downstairs you have 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms - all very clean. Some parts did feel dusty but that is to expected from an old converted barn. The owners chickens are great fun to watch. My children loved feeding them and watching the little chicks. Value for money - spot on!.

A wonderful cottage, extremely comfortable and well equipped
Reviewed on 04/07/2017We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. The cottage is in a lovely peaceful rural location and is full of character but beautifully modernised. It is very well equipped to a high standard (I doubt my own kitchen at home is as good) and has a wonderful homely feel, due not only to the comfort provided but also to the very decorative artwork on the walls. Jenny the owner was there to greet us on arrival, and we greatly appreciated the lovely cream tea she left for us! She was very helpful with any questions we had throughout our stay, and made us feel truly welcome. The location was ideal for us as we were interested in seeing as much of Cornwall as possible, and we were able to reach anywhere in the county with relative ease (though quiet and rural we were only a 10-minute drive away from Bodmin and the main A30). However there are wonderful places to visit very close by, such as Fowey, where we were able to take some great boat trips (at very reasonable cost) to get relief from the heatwave. It was altogether a wonderful holiday, due in no small part to the excellent Treganoon Round Barn.

Reviewed on 03/11/2016We were extremely pleased with our stay at Treganoon Round Barn. In a very rural at the end of some very narrow lanes, but well worth finding! The barn is wonderful for a family holiday with lots of space and comfortably furnished throughout. Very well equipped kitchen, a lovely walk-in shower in one of the bathrooms and underfloor heating - luxury! Our young son enjoyed playing with the numerous toys and waiting to see the milk tanker pass on its way to the farm!! Would highly recommend to other families. Great central position to visit many places of interest.

Treganoon Round Barn
Reviewed on 18/09/2016We had a lovely week at Treganoon Round Barn, the owners were very helpful and kind. We had a lovely afternoon tea upon arrival and our children enjoyed the toys. We had a great day at the Eden Project with their help. Polkerris beach was delightful. We were a bit disappointed with the damp downstairs and the smell - all of our clothes ended up smelling damp/musty very quickly. Some of the kitchen utensils, cutlery and crockery were not very clean at all, and I cleaned down the front of some of the kitchen cupboards that had things spilt down them. Overall, it was a good base to explore the area and we enjoyed our week.

Calm and comfortable setting to spend an all to brief holiday in Cornwall
Reviewed on 02/08/2016We've been to Cornwall on several occasions but always stayed in static caravans on parks. This time we decided on a cottage and were delighted that we did. The cottage was peaceful and secluded, but all other areas were easily accessible, including shops, beaches and the Eden project just around the corner. The local wildlife, (especially the resident Barn owls) had the kids enthralled and after a busy day at the beach it was pleasant to relax in the garden with the BBQ working away in the background. Jenny and Peter were marvellous hosts, providing advice, directions and even a discount for a few of the activities we did. I would whole heartedly recommend the treganoon roundbarn as a pleasant place to stay.

A brilliant place to stay
Reviewed on 06/06/2016We had an amazing week in Cornwall - granted the weather was perfect - but having the Treganoon Round Barn as a base was ideal. Perfect location between the Eden Project and Lanhydrock House. Accessible enough to both south and north coasts - which we made plenty of use of. Jenny and Peter's welcome and service was amazing. The barn is full of character, has plenty of space, and is well kitted out with everything we needed as a family with three young children. If the weather had been bad it would've been a pleasant peaceful place to hideout. Good supply of toys included, good enough wifi in the lounge for iplayer etc, and the escape of not having it in the rest of the house due to the thick stone walls.

A well located property with a real feel of being in the country. Exremely helpful owners.
Reviewed on 14/09/2015We had a pleasant stay in the barn with friends. The Barn is on 2 levels. The upstairs is excellent with a good kitchen and spacious living room which is comfortable. The bedrooms are downstairs. We had concerns about the dampness in them. We ran de humidifiers which were provided and took an awful lot of water from them each day.We would not recommend this property to anyone with serious asthma or chest conditions. The owners were delightful and very helpful. They were aware of the dampness. Easy parking for 2 cars. Teenage children may get frustrated by the totally inconsistent availability of Wi-F-.Interent was rarely connected. Linmited phone signal as you would expect. BBQ was readily available and there was a real feel of being away from it all in the location. Small Co-op in Lostwithal, ASDA is 20 mins drive away. Would recommend the Globe Pub in Lostwithal.- would NOT recommend the Crown in Lostlivery
