Property Location

The beautiful town of Marazion, set on the shores of Mount's Bay, has for long been a hot favourite for tourism in West Cornwall. Its clean, sandy beaches, with stunning views toward the Lizard Peninsula and Land's End, have established Marazion as the most wonderful destination for beach holidays in Cornwall. Mount's Bay, renowned as one of the most beautiful bays in the world, provides a safe seaside environment for swimming and is also a popular destination for windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing. Several major sporting events in these fields are held on Marazion's beaches. Marazion is perhaps more widely famed as the gateway to the enchanting Saint Michael's Mount, the jewel in Cornwall's crown. A causeway accesses Saint Michael's Mount, once walked by pilgrims in honour of the alleged appearance of Saint Michael, which is revealed at low tide. When the tide is in visitors are ferried to the Mount in small boats. The castle is leased from the National Trust by the St Aubyn family who reside at the property maintaining and working the grounds.

Marazion is within easy travelling distance of all major attractions in West Cornwall and is ideal for your holiday in Cornwall. Just a short distance along the beach from Penzance, from here, it is simple to travel to Land's End, St Ives, Newquay, Helston, and the popular destinations of the Minack Theatre, the St. Ives Tate Gallery and the Eden Project.

Nearby Penzance, meaning 'holy headland', is the last major town before Lands End. The market town was once made famous as the birthplace of Sir Humphrey Davy, now services the Isles of Scilly by land and sea. The streets of Penzance hold many historic buildings dating from the 17th century; it is well worth a walk around. The Turk's Head pub on Chapel Street, reputed to date from 1233, is the older pub in the town, steeped in smuggling and pirate history. A few minutes down the road is Newlyn, home to one of the largest fishing fleets with over 40 acres of the harbour and, more recently, attracting many great artists and exhibitions. From Penzance you can take the Scillonian for a day trip to the picturesque Isles of Scilly, well worth a visit if you have never been.

Praa Sands is located between Helston and Penzance. The town contains many facilities including a shop, pub, post office and Praa Sands Gold Club. The nearest large supermarket is Morrisons towards Penzance. The extensive beach stretching from Rinsey Head to Hoe Point is extremely popular with the whole family, Prussia Cove, Perranuthnoe & Marazion are the nearest beaches, all within a few minutes drive. When the North Coast is 'blown out' you will find the surfers flock to Praa Sands for its powerful waves coming straight in from the Atlantic Ocean. Just inland from the beach is Pengersick Castle which dates back to the Bronze Age. When you take the short walk from the car park to Praa Sands you’ll be struck by how white the sand is, blindingly so in the sunshine. Apparently, and here’s the science, the light sand is made from seashells that have been pulverised by wave action over millions of years. Located in the south west-facing bend between the Lizard and west Penwith, the mile-long sandy beach is backed with sheltering sand dunes and its easily accessible position is enjoyed by families having fun in the shallows, while further out the surf brigade take on some surprisingly big waves. This is a wonderful destination if you have kids to entertain, they’ll love the beach which is great for sand castles, the shoreline is great for splashing about in and you won’t have to walk miles from the car park. Also it’s a pretty good stop off point just for a coffee where you can sit back and soak up the sun. Full lifeguard cover from 1st of May to 26th of September. Weeekend lifeguard cover in October and during the week of the half-term at the end of October (2021). Please note: Dogs are welcome on this beach except between July 1st and August 31st (10am - 6pm) when a seasonal dog ban is in place (2021).

Secluded and romantic, Prussia Cove has an olde-world poetic feel, and is famous as being the home of the Carter family, The family were smugglers in the 18th century, one of whom, Harry Carter became known as the King of Prussia. Formerly called the King's Cove, Prussia Cove is on the coast of Mount's Bay to the east of Cudden Point. It is a small, quiet and intimate place which could not support larger numbers without being ruined. No lifeguard cover, but surf rescue equipment located on the beach. There is a small privately owned car park, reached along a narrow single track road, which is usually full by mid morning in the school holidays. There are no facilities. The coves are at least ten minutes walk from the car park but space and access to these depends on the tide.

Perranuthnoe beach is located on the south coast around a mile to the east of Marazion, with fine views of Cornwall's jewel, St Michael's Mount. At low tide Perranuthnoe is a sandy beach with some shingle and at high tide the beach is mostly claimed by the sea. The beach is a popular one with surfers. Known by locals as Perran Sands, the beach can be confused with the beach of the same name at Perranporth on the north coast. Lifeguard cover from the 10th of July until the 5th of September (2021). Access - from car park is via steps or a slip way. Dogs are welcome on this beach except between 1 July and 31 August (10am - 6pm) when a seasonal dog ban is in place (2021).

Rinsey's rocky cove (NT) is another excellent beach next to Praa Sands and Wheal Prosper mine is perched above the beach. Prussia Cove, film set for 'Ladies in Lavender,' and Godolphin House (NT) of 'Poldark' fame, are both nearby. Further inland is the market town of Helston which is famous for its Floral Dance in May, a day when the whole town stops and dresses up for the day and dance through the streets. For children of all ages there is Flambards Theme Park next to Culdrose Air Base famous for many air sea rescue missions. There are sights to be seen around Goonhilly Earth station where the large dish Arthur is now a listed building. Try your hand at riding a 2 wheeled Segway. These together with the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek and the nearby coastal village of Porthleven provide any holidaymaker with a wealth of interesting visits.

We loved Tolpeden Bungalow, it was located in a very peaceful location & easily accessible to some really lovely beaches & villages/towns & eateries. The bungalow itself was perfectly formed with everything we needed plus a lovely little garden to relax in & have a BBQ. Everything was provided from the lovely hamper upon arrival to all of the luxuries of the home itself. Lovely comfy beds & sheets & spacious rooms & ensuites. We would definitely consider staying in this area & house again. Can also highly rate the cleanliness of the bungalow & its homely feel.

Beautiful cottage, very quirky but tastefully decorated. A good starting point for days out. We loved the beds - so very comfortable after long walks along the costal path! The welcome basket for us and the dog were a very nice touch :-)

Week stay in Cornwall
Reviewed on 19/08/2021

House was in good order, obviously recently refurbished. Well stocked kitchen and cleanliness was good. Card entry was good and instructions were clear. Negatives - far too many plug-in air fresheners and artificial room fragrances. I counted at least 6 plug-ins, two overwhelming diffusers in the kitchen, one automated/timed dispenser and another hanging air freshener bag in the toilet. For the size of property it was too much and gave you an instant headache on arrival. More hooks for towels in the bathrooms would be good and some shower storage for soap, bottles etc. A lot of dead flies on kitchen windowsills when we arrived. That area could do with some extra attention.

Great location
Reviewed on 19/08/2021

Super accommodation in great location, with short distances to the lovely towns of Marazion (St MichaelA?s Mount) and Porthleven. Perfect space with the dogs and children who loved it. Lovely welcome basket on arrival. Would highly recommend. Only downside was access to drive quite narrow and not great for our large car (Landrover).

We spent 7 nights in Tolpedn bungalow and everything was excellent. The location was convenient for our daily trips around Cornish coast, yet provide home comforts and tranquility on return. All rooms were decorated tastefully which added to an ambience of the place. We were pleasantly surprised to discover welcome basket with few goodies to enjoy. We would highly recommend the place to anyone looking to holiday in Cornwall and we hope to return again.
