Property Location

Arrallas Farm is one of the Duchy's premier farms and is situated in the glorious countryside between Newquay and Truro, the farm itself is over 380 acres and is a mix of arable and dairy.

Situated only 2 miles away from the village of Mitchell with its lovely 16th Century pub, called the Plume of Feathers in the main street. The pub retains many of its original features and serves locally sourced food either in the restaurant or sit outside in the leafy beer garden on a warm summers day.

To the north is Newquay and these days its excellent surfing waters are the town's main industry, where as it once used to be a major export port for the counties mining efforts as well as a north coast port for pilchard fisheries. Fistral Beach holds many surfing competitions throughout the year, and also hosts Run to the Sun over May Bank holiday, a VW and Custom Car Show. Both the Womens and Mens Gig Championships are held here, as are a balloon festival and surf and lifesaving events. Newquay Zoo now houses 130 different species in sub tropical gardens in the centre of the town. Two miles away is The Lappa Valley Steam Railway which, offers both the old and young an interesting day out. Newquay Airport has made the north coast one of the easiest places in Cornwall to get to, with regular flights from various locations across the UK. The town also has an Aquarium, a Waterworld and numerous immensely pretty beaches for the less active. Trerice, run by the National Trust, is 3 miles outside of the town and is an Elizabethan Manor House and Garden with restricted winter opening times. Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" restaurant is located just down the coast over-looking Watergate Bay.

For great restaurants you might like to try Padstow, with its fine selection of restaurants influenced by Rick Stein, or in The Square you might like to book at Paul Ainsworth's No 6 (one Michelin star), the St Enodoc Hotel or at one of Nathan Outlaws restaurants in Rock or Port Isaac.

To the North West is Holywell Bay, a little village on the North coast between Perranporth and Newquay. It has a beautiful beach with fantastic sand dunes and a little stream for paddling for those daunted by the waves. In the summer months the beach is patrolled by lifeguards and of course, surfing lessons are available for those keen on learning.

The Cathedral City of Truro is in the heart of Cornwall and offers a wealth of facilities for the visitor. Dominated by the stunning cathedral, it is one of the south west's most attractive cities. Lemon Quay plays host to many events throughout the year including the Cornwall Food & Drink Festival in the Autumn and the famous Truro Fatstock Show just before Christmas. Regular farmers markets occur every Wednesdays & Saturday and there are also arts & craft markets on Saturdays. There is a wonderful range of shopping for the visitor including all the regular high street stores including Waitrose, Marks & Spencer, Tescos & Sainsburys, but also a wide range of more specialist stores. It really is worth a wander through the back streets and alleys to find some fabulous little boutiques. Truro has a superb range of restaurants from Bustopher Jones & Mannings on Lemon Street to the always popular Pizza Express. There are lively bars, pubs & nightclubs including the superb Old Ale House, a busy Wetherspoons and the infamous L2 if you are so inclined! The Hall for Cornwall hosts everything from Shakespeare to rock concerts and the cinema on Lemon Street has all the latest releases.

Short stay

Nice and clean property. Everything needed for our stay. One side of the sleeping accommodation smelt a little damp.

From the Owner:
I have never responded to a review, but felt the Stables was given a rating for value that she didn't deserve. I believe that the rate paid of under £20, per person, per night staying during a peak week was a fair reflection for the clean, comfortable, well equipped holiday home, set in spacious gardens, with idyllic views across the countryside that the Stables is. Regarding the damp smell, I can only apologize and think that as the flies have been trying to get in over the last couple of weeks, the windows have been kept shut and with the underfloor heating on, condensation is created. I do hope this, combined with the poor weather during your stay, didn't spoil the enjoyment of your holiday in Cornwall.

Second Visit

Our second visit. All as before. This is a quiet, well equipped holiday property, warm and comfortable. However, we were troubled by lots of flies this time, hopefully a short term problem.

Lovely stay for a 2nd time

Great central location if you want to travel all over Cornwall as its fairly near the main road but on a lovely quiet farm. Excellent value for money and very spacious accommodation. Quite liked the kids having there own 'wing' and bathroom. Shower is excellent in en suite, you can wash long hair in a matter of seconds! Beds comfortable and linen smelled nice. Big garden for kids to run around and we enjoyed picking the blackberries. Well equipped kitchen. There was plenty of stuff to use if you needed it washing liquid, tin foil, handwash etc we always left as much for the next person as its only fair. Attentive friendly owner but not overbearing in the slightest. The only downsides are no wifi and nothing within walking distance although we have stayed here twice and love it.

Fantastic stay would highly reccomend

The owners are so friendly warm and welcoming. The house house is set in an idyllic countryside location, but still close enough to local amenities and great beaches. The house itself is beautiful open plan with plenty of space. The kitchen is well stocked with all utensils etc. This is our second stay and we will be booking for next year.

Very nice property.

This was a really nice holiday cottage. It was very clean when we arrived and was exceptionally well equipped, with everything you`d need for your stay. It has loads of toys to keep the kids happy and plenty of dvds for both children and adults. The owners live next door and are very friendly and helpful. It is in a extremely quiet location, was easy to find and has plenty of parking right outside the door. The weather wasn`t the best when we stayed but we still managed to find plenty to do with our 2 grandkids. I would certainly stay here again and highly recommend it.

Back to my roots a week at the farm.

A great stay at Arrallas Farm, Chris, Tory and the family made us welcome right from the start, Tory introduced my grandchildren to the new born calves which although they were very shy at the time, they never stopped talking about the experience! The location was great (mid Cornwall) being just off the A30 it was within easy reach of anywhere you want to visit in Cornwall. The farm itself is a working farm and as such Tory and Chris were always busy but nothing was too much trouble. Due to the location of the Stables accommodation being at a slightly lower level than the working part of the farm we found it to be a very quiet and tranquil location.

Our stay at The Stables at Arrallas Farm

We had a lovely week staying at The Stables in April, itA?s a beautiful property on a lovely farm. The views from the garden were amazing and I can imagine will be even better in the Summer. The farm dogs paid us a visit every day just to say hi or play ball for a little while, they were a big hit with the grandchildren. We are looking forward to returning in June for another week of exploring Cornwall from a lovely base.

Excellent but

Neither my daughter or myself slept well. We do not know why. The beds were supremely comfortable and warm. We were in Cornwall to attend two funerals and that may have been the cause on sleeplessness.

Review of The Stables at Arrallas Farm

A wonderful stay. The Stables are extremely comfortable, clean and spacious and very well equipped. The location is very convenient for the all attractions. Arrallas farm Aug 2017.

Bigger than the photos suggest, beds a bit soft for our liking but very clean and well equipped.A full sized fridge/freezer very useful, good dishwasher and washer dryer too plus usual fittings. Friendly support next door if needed, easy access to all of Cornwall from here, a few minor bits need attention such as a couple of window handles but an excellent cottage for our family of 6. Worth a return in a few years.

Wonderful cottage.

Had a fantastic stay at Arrallas Farm Stables. Accommodation is large and airy with lots of space with beautiful views. Very quiet and remote yet just 20 minutes drive to Newquay. Great to have use of the tennis courts too. Owners on hand in case of any problems. The weather for the week was mixed so the tumble dryer was really useful. Great supply of DVDs and games for the kids.

The best zero wifi holiday we´ve ever had

It has been a pleasure to stay at The Stables, the place is very spacious and provides just everything one would possibly need while staying there. There were one or two niggling features which belied the request to leave the place as clean as we found it. These were minor areas where cleanliness and hygiene failed to meet the high standards elsewhere in the accommodation. We can provide photos if required. We didn't trouble the new owners because these failings could hardly be attributed to them. In short we enjoyed our stay there and our holiday in Cornwall.

The Stables

Shame about directions - took us nearly an hour driving around - if Clock Garage had been mentioned we would have found it a lot sooner. However the cottage is set in a most idyllic spot - beautifully clean and very spacious - very well equipped - an ideal family or romantic getaway. Shame dogs are not allowed as we would have loved to share this with our daughter, her partner and their little dog. If you love a bit of isolation but glorious views and a exceptional holiday home then pick this one - look out for the little house in the woods!
