Property Location
The scenery down at the beach with its surrounding majestic cliffs is almost unrivalled. At high tide, the beach is a mass of quartz-veined pebbles and large boulders but at low tide, it reveals an expanse of sand and many rock pools. Only the road separates the sea from a couple of beach shops, two superb beach cafes and a public house with a restaurant and a fantastic terrace. As you travel down the coastline, you can visit quaint coastal villages such as Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac, the latter offering a range of fantastic restaurants where you can enjoy the freshest and most delicious fish.
Fifteen minutes up the coast is Bude, a popular tourist destination for both its surfing and fantastic family beaches in Widemouth Bay. The watchful eye of the RNLI lifeguards allows for some of the best surfing in the world alongside swimming and a whole host of water-based activities. Bude today is a lovely sea-side town, the main shopping streets and inter-connecting alleyways play host to a wide range of locally-owned shops, restaurants and pubs. There are boutiques, shoes, arts & crafts, jewellery, hand-made gifts and souvenirs.
Boscastle, to the west, is a tiny port set in a narrow ravine, the town came into prominence recently as a result of terrible floods in the summer of 2004. In the village, there is a pottery, a museum of witchcraft and several gift shops. A footpath to the left of the quayside will take you to the 'Lookout' which is a wonderful vantage point from which to view the rugged coastline. Boscastle was once a favourite meeting place of the author Thomas Hardy, and is the location for one of his novels 'A Pair of Blue Eyes'. Boat trips can be taken from the harbour as far as Long Island, where during the breeding season you may see razorbills, puffins & guillemots. There is a demanding 7-mile coastal path walk between Boscastle and Crackington Haven. There are several attractions along this stretch of coast including Strangles beach at the bottom of a large landslip with a rock arch the Northern Door. Just south of here is High Cliff which is the highest point on the Cornish coast path. Don't forget to visit Pentagon inlet which has an imposing waterfall that cascades down to the sea below.
Six miles inland is Bodmin Moor, one of Cornwall's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cornwall at its wildest and rich in ancient history, Bodmin Moor stretches for 30 miles through the heart of the County of Cornwall and offers spectacular walking and horse riding. With easy access to both the A30 and the Atlantic Highway, you can quickly travel up and down the South-West to enjoy some of the larger tourist attractions that Devon and Cornwall have to offer.

Peaceful location with beautiful scenery
Reviewed on 29/06/2022We stayed at The School House for a family holiday and it was enjoyed by all 3 generations. The accommodation had everything we needed and was very clean and comfortable and is ideal for those wanting to get away from it all, to enjoy local walks and explore the coastline. The local pub and cafes had great food.

Relax and recharge
Reviewed on 13/10/2021We arrived tired and in need of relaxation and weA?re not disappointed. The house was spotlessly clean, very well equipped and the owners very welcoming. A beautiful place both inside and out. Remote but with walks close by this is ideal if you are looking to get away from the rat race. Cannot recommend this place enough. Already counting down to next stay.

Beautiful cottage with fantastic hosts!
Reviewed on 22/09/2021We loved the cottage, it had everyting you could need for a weeks holiday with a very comfortable and stylish interior. Beautiful building and well kept grounds. The location is quiet and out of the way, but close enough to local attractions for trips out and some lovely walks and views from the cottage. Daniel and Angela are fantastic hosts and keep the cottage and grounds looking beautiful. A fantastic week and i will be back!

Friendly and helpful owners.
Reviewed on 15/07/2021The kitchen , compared to other rentals we have stayed in in Cornwall, was minimally equipped. Only one old chopping board was inadequate. Every cottage we have stayed in has had its own laundry facilities in the house so we were surpised to find a coin operated tumble dryer. We felt this was an unneccessary charge. Charge more for the property if necessary. It is slightly offensive and the revenue recouped is surely not worth it. Apart from this, the owners, Angela amd Daniel, were very friendly and hospitable and worked hard to make our stay enjoyable.
Property Owners replied:
We are pleased to hear you had an enjoyable stay with us. As you highlighted in your comments we have limited the amount of kitchen equipment and crockery in the cottage. This allows us to dishwasher all kitchen equipment between bookings and to ensure the cottage is fully sanitised for each new guest. We state in our welcome note that we do provide any additional equipment you require upon request and as we live on-site we are able to do this immediately. Our primary concern is the safety of our guests and we have decluttered the cottage accordingly whilst in the pandemic.
The laundry facilities are shared between three cottages and there is a nominal fee for the tumble dryer. Not all guests use the tumble dryer so its fairer only to charge guests who use it. The washing machine and washing powder are supplied free of charge

Holiday
Reviewed on 23/06/2021This standards in this cottage were above expectations and the welcome from Angela and Dan was exceptional. The cottage was extremely clean and well presented. It had all the essentials required for a self catering cottage despite being 'decluttered' for covid reasons. The location was very quiet - if you listened hard enough you could just about hear the sea crashing on the rocks on the nearby coast! There is a lovely walk to Crackington Haven albeit the last bit down to the village is a bit steep and takes about 30 minutes well worth it for the views. An ideal base to visit other areas of Cornwall - usually busy - but coming back to the tranquility of the School House is a warm welcome. Highly recommended.

Peaceful location in North Cornwall
Reviewed on 28/05/2021We had a wonderful stay at the Old School House. The house was very clean and well-equipped and was warm, comfortable and homely. There were lovely local walks along the cliffs and Boscastle, Tintagel and Bude were great local places to visit. We also had an excellent meal at the Port William pub, Trebarwith Strand and a very good cream tea at Rectory Farm. Daniel and Angela were great hosts and were very helpful with local knowledge. We plan to visit again as soon as possible.

Simply wonderful
Reviewed on 19/05/2021School House is a lovely property in what can only be described as an idyllic location. Angela and Daniel, the owners, are friendly, helpful and available whilst leaving guests to enjoy their stay. As a lone traveller, it was comforting to know they were onsite in case there were issues, but there were none. The cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished and although the equipment in the kitchen was more basic than usual to allow for thorough cleaning after each stay, there was nothing missing that I needed. St GennyA?s is an idyllic location- very quiet and peaceful (and as a small hamlet, I imagine it would be peaceful all year round), but handy for more popular tourist destinations along the North coast. I will definitely be returning in the future; School House is a lovely base from which to explore North Cornwall and I canA?t recommend it highly enough.

What a gem!
Reviewed on 12/11/2020We needed a break and this was exactly what we got at the Old School House! It was quiet enough to rest and relax, but with enough going on to keep your attention. The location is just lovely for a fresh walk over to Crackington Haven and not in an area swamped with tourists! The South West coastal path is within sight of the door step!!! The accommodation is lovely! Clean, tidy and luxurious. We left feeling calm and restored... ready to face a long Covid winter ... starting with lockdown 2.0! We do not hesitate to recommend to anyone!

Excellent School House
Reviewed on 08/10/2020We arrived to a warm and friendly welcome from Daniel and Angela. The positives did not end there, the School House was just perfect. We enjoyed a 5 night stay and were only disappointed when we had to leave. We would definitely like to return in the future and would highly recommend it to a couple, family or 2 couples as there is plenty of space and the grounds are beautifully well kept. Daniel and Angela were always there if we needed them but were also respectful of our space and privacy. It was a wonderful walk to the local beach (for the able bodied) and we had plenty of ideas of things to do with the welcome pack.
