Property Location

Situated only a mile away from the village of Mitchell with its lovely 16th Century pub, called the Plume of Feathers in the main street. The pub retains many of its original features and serves locally sourced food either in the restaurant or sit outside in the leafy beer garden on a warm summers day.

These days Newquay's excellent surfing waters are the town's main industry, where as it once used to be a major export port for the counties mining efforts as well as a north coast port for pilchard fisheries. Fistral Beach holds many surfing competitions throughout the year, and also hosts Run to the Sun over May Bank holiday, a VW and Custom Car Show. Both the Womens and Mens Gig Championships are held here, as a balloon festival and surf and lifesaving events. Newquay Zoo now houses 130 different species in sub tropical gardens in the centre of the town. Two miles away is The Lappa Valley Steam Railway which, offers both the old and young an interesting day out. Newquay Airport has made the north coast one of the easiest places in Cornwall to get to, with regular flights from various locations across the UK. The town also has an Aquarium, a Waterworld and numerous immensely pretty beaches for the less active. Trerice run by the National Trust is 3 miles outside of the town is an Elizabethan Manor House and Garden with restricted winter opening times.

Just 5.5 miles north west is Holywell Bay, a little village on the North coast between Perranporth and Newquay. It has a beautiful beach with fantastic sand dunes and a little stream for paddling for those daunted by the waves. In the summer months the beach is patrolled by lifeguards and of course, surfing lessons are available for those keen on learning.

The Piggery

The Piggery is a very comfortable and well-equipped place to stay. Our son particularly enjoyed the private play park, which was 30 seconds excited walk from the front door, and playing ping pong and table football in the games room (far enough away from the cottages that no other guests were disturbed by the noise). Getting to the shops, beaches and other places of interest was very easy. We would happily stay there again.

An enjoyable and comfortable stay. Ideal location from which to explore Cornwall.

We stayed at the Piggery in July 2018 for a week and found it to be very enjoyable and comfortable. The cream tea (my first ever) was a very pleasant surprise, as well as the treats left out for our Beagle. The Piggery provides every comfort you need for a week exploring Cornwall and its location is ideal, as we pingponged across the county. We did not make use of the hottub (we have one at home), nor did we use the games room, but had we stayed longer, we certainly would have done so. The bed was comfortable, all was very clean and there's only good feedback from us. A lovely stay!

Very relaxing stay

Just returned from a 7 night stay at the piggery. ItA?s a beautiful little cottage, very well stocked with everything you need for a self catering holiday....just bring food! The owners were lovely, and very helpful. the setting was very tranquil, peaceful and picturesque yet only 2 mins from the a30. This is a very quiet area, so a car is a must...lots of beaches, country pubs etc with 15-20 mins drive. Overall, highly recommend!

Great Location

The Piggery is a clean, well maintained property with the expected "home from home" facilities. The location makes a great base for local beaches and is also well placed for further exploration of Cornwall. The owners were very friendly and helpful and I would have no hesitation in my recommendation.

Highly recommend

We stayed in the Piggery and the setting was beautiful. When we arrived the cottage was ready and waiting with a bottle of prosecco and box of Thornton which was a nice little touch. The cottage itself was the cleanest accommodation I have stopped in for a while, all kitchen utensils, towels etc are provided. Stepping out onto the decking you have beautiful scenery waiting for you and it is so peaceful and quiet. You have a hot tub, there is also a pool table, table tennis and other games in the games room. We are 5-10 mins drive from beaches such as Crantock, Holywell Hey, Newquay etc. Definitely recommend this place and will be returning next year!!

Short unexpected break

Booked 3 nights at goonwinnow farm, due to a family bereavement and to attend the funeral. When we arrived owners made us feel very welcome including our dog. The cottage we were due to stay in had a broken boiler (unexpected day before) so owners put us in a neighbouring cottage with an enclosed lawned garden (perfect for the doglet) My boys loved it there and enjoyed the park and games room. Went to tressilisk castle and they loved it too Definitely will return in better weather and under better circumstances

The Piggery

This was a lovely cottage and the owners of the property more than helpful and friendly, came with the grandchildren, they loved the games room and the donkeys and not to forget the jacuzzi that was fab I think we were in there every day. The location was ideally situated for Hollywell Bay, Padstow, St.Ives so much to see and do. We visited the Cyder Farm, the Seal Sanctuary we spent 5 hours there brilliant, lots of attractions nearby. This cottage and location is a must to visit.

Fantastic property

This is a lovely property. The owners were friendly, welcoming & very helpful. The property was well maintained, roomy, light, warm and with superb views. The animals and gardens would make it an excellent place for children. The location is ideal for exploring Cornwall. Not many public footpaths in the vicinity but superb coastal walks about 10 minutes away e.g. Holywell Bay to Polly Joke and Crantock. We ate the Sunday carvery at the The Pheasant in St Newlyn East - very friendly welcome and good food. The Plume of Feathers looked good in Mitchell as did Offshore in Cubert - will give them a try on our next visit.

Very enjoyable stay

This was a last minute booking for an autumn stay with the intention of walking parts of the SW coastpath. The location was excellent - just off the A30 but far enough away to be very quiet and peaceful. The grounds of the farm were beautiful - and in summer I am sure would be ideal for families with small children. At this time of year, equally good for an older couple wanting a peaceful getaway. The accommodation was very clean, comfortable, warm and well equipped. Plenty of space between the various cottages on site and a generous welcoming package. I was warmly welcomed by Jane and although no problems arose during the stay, I felt I would easily have been able to sort them out if they had. The owners live on site but were never obtrusive. It was the sort of cottage that I looked forward to returning to after a good day out exploring the N Cornwall coast and I would certainly recommend it.
