Property Location
Trebarwith Strand, 2 miles south of Tintagel, is the closest, easily accessible, sandy family beach, with plenty of facilities and a seasonal lifeguard service. It is an ideal location for playing or exploring with its many rock pools, though take care to check tide times for safety.
Port Isaac, a small, picturesque fishing village, recently the location of filming for "Doc Martin" with Martin Clunes, has a good selection of cafes, shops and pubs, or the quieter, near-deserted Port Gaverne and Port Quin are natural coves for rock pooling, or perhaps paddleboarding.
Further down the coast, between Rock and Polzeath, you’ll find golden beaches and coves with some of the best surf in Europe. Along the River Camel estuary, a walk on this stretch of the coast allows you to explore the beautiful sandy Daymer Bay, more protected by the sandy Doom Bar, making it popular with families. Perhaps climb Brea Hill for spectacular views over the estuary and out to sea or take a walk through the dunes to find the Grade I listed St Enodoc Church, the resting place of the former poet laureate John Betjeman. From Rock, you can sail, enjoy the beach or perhaps take the passenger ferry, which is only a few minutes, which will allow you to set foot in Padstow.
The National Trust have three stately properties nearby; Lanhydrock House, Trerice and Cotehele as well as ownership of beautiful walks and beaches between Port Isaac and Polzeath and the walking trails from Padstow around the Trevose Headland to the dramatic cliffs and beach at Bedruthan Steps.
If you fancy something different, try a tour around the Camel Valley Vineyard, Cornish Wine has been growing in stature around the world. Their sparkling wines are truly stunning; having picked up lots of international awards, go for a tasting you will not be disappointed! Or if Cider is more your tipple, nearby Haywood Farm and its extensive orchards are worth a visit.
The Old Farmhouse is situated on the side of The Camel Valley, which meanders and widens till it eventually finishes in an estuary with Padstow to its west and Polzeath to Rock on its East. Just two miles from the house is Wenfordbridge, the start of The Camel Trail. You can hire bikes to enjoy this generally flat and traffic-free trail that goes to Padstow, enjoying the wonderful scenery and plenty of wildlife, including fantastic sightings of wading birds to see on this serene and generally flat and traffic-free trail.
Wadebridge, just 6 miles away, was originally a market town. It has an amazing 15th-century bridge with 17 arches over the River Camel, which is definitely worth visiting. The bridge was built on wool, as this was how the wealthy landowners in the area made their money. From the day the bridge was built, the town became known as Wadebridge. The Royal Cornwall Showground at Wadebridge hosts the county show every June, come rain or shine, opened each year by a Royal Family member. Cornish Farmers have had to diversify in recent years and so has the show, but they have kept their traditional roots with steam engines being shown next to the shiny new high-tech tractors. It's not every day you get to see a formation JCB digger dancing in the main ring.
Wadebridge is centrally located and is the perfect location to further head out on the main roads down into Cornwall or branch out to Padstow. Padstow is a beautiful working fishing port, a popular location, best known perhaps for the Rick Stein empire of eateries. Home also to The National Lobster Hatchery, it has many shops, bars and galleries to enjoy. Perhaps ferry over to Rock on the other side of the estuary, eat fish and chips or crab from the harbour walls, or start a coastal walk out towards Stepper Point or further to Trevone Bay.
Bodmin Moor is minutes from The Old Farmhouse, dominated by large granite tors which tower over sweeping expanses of moorland. A climb up Rough Tor from the National Trust car park is manageable for most and worth it for the spectacular views. Or minutes from the house, perhaps run, cycle or enjoy a horse ride and perhaps catch the meandering Highland cattle crossing the road.
Whatever you choose, there is so much to do using The Old Farmhouse as your base for a memorable holiday in Cornwall.
Both Bodmin and have a large selection of supermarkets, shops and restaurants.
Nearest Railway Station: Bodmin Parkway – half an hour away.

Perfect place to relax and enjoy the views across the valley, or a short drive to the beach and other attractions. We will definitely be rebooking to enjoy this property again

Nice break
Reviewed on 25/08/2021A week break for 6, some lovely touches of games, furnishings and multiple leisure spaces. The beds were comfortable. Location is rural and short drive to a nice pub but driving is essential, no walks from the house. Just one functioning shower was a drag and would have been very difficult if we had been 8 at capacity.
The Old Farmhouse replied:
We appreciate you taking the time to review our property. We have since fixed the bath overhead shower and are now employing a new cleaning company. We value your feedback and are pleased that you had a great stay. We hope to welcome you back in the future.
