Property Location

A 20-minute walk to the coast leads to Millook Cove, a dog-friendly beach all year that consists mainly of boulders and coarse shingle, this is not really a bathing beach but is a favourite for experienced surfers, there is no RNLI lifeguard cover.

Widemouth Bay, just to the north, is a varied and interesting beach with a long open bay. At the northerly end of Widemouth, there is a large sandy area that becomes more exposed as the tide drops and to either side of this, the sand gives way to some fantastic rock formations. The beach is ideal for families, whether you wish to swim, sunbathe, surf or hunt for marine life in the hundreds of rock pools. Lifeguards are present during the season. These are some of the best beaches in Cornwall so don't miss the chance to try your surfing or 'boogie' boarding skills. There are a number of surf schools in the area.

For Walkers and cyclists, the area is full of superb routes and Bude lies at the centre of the most dramatic stretch of the South West coastal footpath. There are numerous local villages and landmarks to explore and much of the area is a nature lovers paradise. Bude is only a couple of minutes down the road and has the full range of facilities that one would expect of a small town including a wide range of shops, pubs & restaurant.

Just up the coast is Bude which is possibly more diverse than any other holiday destination in Cornwall. Most major villages, towns and attractions are within an hour's drive; and because Bude sits on the county border, visitors are free to explore the delights of both Devon and Cornwall at their leisure. Look past the eight main beaches and many smaller hidden coves and you soon see there really is something for everyone. In the centre of Bude, there is a huge, sandy beach which is a favourite with children and adults alike, there is an outdoor sea pool, pretty canal, golf course, splash pool and tennis courts. Bude is Cornwall's most northern town and has been a favourite seaside resort since Victorian times. The coastal scenery surrounding the beaches is quite beautiful, boasting some of the finest sandy beaches and the best surfing in England! The town has excellent facilities and a wide selection of interesting, independent shops. This idyllic area has a large amount of birdlife for the dedicated twitcher and some wonderful, scenic walks along the South West coastal path. The centre of Bude is a lively hub with concerts, dances and fetes as well as other events throughout the season, including an annual Carnival Week. The town has a host of pubs, cafes and restaurants to suit every palate and there is a new Visitors Centre in the Crescent car park, a large children's play area, a 19th-century canal and a small wharf amongst many other attractions. Bude is also home to the internationally acclaimed jazz festival which takes place each August.

Further along the coast is Sandymouth Beach, a large beach ideal for families due to its lovely sand, rock pools and tea rooms. A short drive north over the border into Devon leads to the quaint village of Hartland with its very own shipwreck! Also well worth a visit is the world-famous fishing village of Clovelly. The cobbled, traffic-free, high street is built into a cleft in a 400' high cliff and tumbles its way down past whitewashed cottages festooned with flowers to the tiny working port.

Further West down the A39 will lead you to Boscastle, Crackington Haven, Tintagel and on down to Rock, Padstow and Wadebridge all with their own fascinating histories, endless beaches, magnificent promontories, secluded coves and pubs and restaurants full of character and fine local cuisine - this part of Cornwall will rapidly become one of your favourite holiday destinations.

Fantastic stay
Reviewed on 02/09/2021

Had a great week here the cottage had everything we needed and was a perfect location. We didnA?t have time to do the walk from the cottage but IA?m sure it was as nice as the walks we did do from bude. Crackington beach was a 10 minute drive away, a lovely small beach with a cafe and pub which served great food. Hosts were great giving information on local things to do and easy to get in touch with if we had any problems. The cottage had a lovely open lounge/kitchen with a big conservatory at the front which was great to leave your shoes, coats, bags etc. Upstairs was very roomy with a massive bathroom, only drawback being you had to sit in the bath to use the shower as there was no curtain around the bath and nowhere to hook the shower head. If you have old creaky knees itA?s difficult to get out lol. Beautiful soft towels were provided. The bed was a bit too soft for us but others might prefer this. Spotlessly clean and a lovely chocolate cake on arrival was just what we needed after a long drive to get there.

Fabulous friendly getaway in the stunning Cornwall countryside!

Our stay at The Hayloft was absolutely wonderful, John and Becky made us feel very welcome. The Hayloft is very clean and incredibly well equipped - we did some self-catering and the kitchen in particular had everything we needed. They are a short drive from Poundstock and Bude just off the Atlantic Highway, which made for a very peaceful but well connected location. We will definitely be staying here again in future - we couldn't have asked for a better time!

Enjoyable post-lockdown stay :)
Reviewed on 16/12/2020

We absolutely loved our little getaway to Cornwall at the start of December. The Hayloft accommodation met all of our expectations and was exactly how it looked online. Even though the temperature was cold outside it was warm inside which made it extremely cosy. John and Becky let us get on with our break but, whenever I had any questions or needed anything, they were more than happy to help. John even gave us a tour of the farm with his son one morning which was a very enjoyable. As for the location - it is slightly remote when it comes to being near shops / pubs etc but that didn't surprise us as that's what we were looking for. Other than that I would recommend the Hayloft to anyone and I look forward to visiting that beautiful part of the country some time again in the future.

Blissful retreat
Reviewed on 03/09/2020

We booked a week at the Hayloft. It is compact but perfect for a couple and is the perfect place to snuggle down. It is placed on a working farm and the owners and their family are delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and nothing was too much trouble for either Becky or John. Peggy also enjoyed getting in on the act! The property is a little remote for us townies, who are used to everything on the doorstep and being able to access by foot, but for the week it was ideal. We made use of full days out. There is a lovely local pub, about 2 miles away, with great food. Nothing is very far away in Cornwall. The stars are wonderful to look at, along with the birds on the bird feeder. A wonderful stay with wonderful hosts.
