The Dunes is wonderfully located in the heart of Porthtowan a mere 100m from the top of the beach and the famous "Blue Bar". There is a sun trap of a small garden to enjoy the evenings while sipping a refreshing beer or glass of wine. This ground floor apartment has all modern amenities, an open plan kitchen / diner / living room, a double (4'6") bedroom and second bedroom with adult sized (3') bunk beds. The interior is tastefully decorated and there is parking for 2 cars.

Porthtowan is a surfer's delight with one of the best waves in Cornwall. There is a surf school on the beach and you can rent boards and suits in the village. Porthtowan beach has glorious golden sand and its size increases exponentially as the tide goes out eventually including Chapel Porth beach and the area under the cliffs below the iconic Wheal Coates engine house. The beach is a regular winner of the Blue Flag award for clean beaches.

Accommodation
Ground floor: Enters into corridor with doors leading to: Main bedroom with (4'6") double bed, chest of drawers and wardrobe. Second bedroom with bunk bed (3') and chest of drawers. Bathroom with shower over, hand basin and WC. Open plan living / dining / kitchen with all modern amenities, sliding door onto decked area and small enclosed rear lawned garden with views across Porthtowan bay.
Exterior: The enclosed garden has a sundeck with exterior furniture.

Facilities & Services
Heating is via economy 7 night storage radiators. The kitchen is fully fitted with a range of units. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, toaster, kettle, small combined mini fridge / freezer. There is a washing machine. The lounge area has a digital TV & DVD player with Sky Q. There is free WiFi at the property. There is an iron and ironing board.

Electricity, heating and bed linen all included. You will need to bring your own towels and beach towels. Up to two w
ell behaved dogs will be permitted at a small additional cost of £30 per dog / per week, although please remember that you cannot leave dogs unattended in the property alone. Regrettably no smoking is allowed. There is off road parking for 2 cars.

Porthtowan beach is a 2 minute walk down the hill and is famous for its excellent surf and acres of glorious sand. Porthtowan (meaning cove of sand dunes) has some of the best surf in the UK. However it is sometimes not for the faint hearted and beginners should be careful but there is an excellent surf school which operates from the beach. The Blue Bar is situated on the edge of the beach and provides great food and drink in a beach bar with an unparalleled location. Closer to Bos Keynvor is the Victory Inn at Towan cross a 5-10 minute walk away, it is a genuine 17th century Cornish cliff top pub with a great menu and lively atmosphere. If you have brought your pet to this dog friendly property there are a number of walks from literally right next to Bos Keynvor where you can stroll through the heathland but you are also only a short walk from the South West Coast Path.

Portreath (meaning cove of sand) is a delightful village which extends both sides of a valley leading down into a little harbour and beach. West of the harbour entrance are two more beaches with golden sands that are popular with holidaymakers and surfers alike.

Redruth and Camborne, to the south, are at the centre of Cornwall's traditional industrial heritage. To celebrate this, a new free visitor attraction called "Heartlands Cornwall" has been recently completed just off the A30 in Pool (between Redruth and Camborne). This is the UK's first cultural playground and includes a huge adventure playground made out of timber, including the custom-made "giants trap" which lives up to the legend of Bolster, a local giant, who fell head over heels for a St Agnes maid. Art studios and galleries regularly display pieces by local and national artists. There are wild botanical gardens, world heritage site exhibitions, a visitor centre and regular markets with local produce.

The city of Truro is only about a 20 minute drive to the east and has a wide selection of good shopping including Tesco, Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer and many other high street outlets. There is also a cinema and a great selection of restaurants, pubs & cafes. The resort of Newquay is about 15 miles further up the coast to the north with its spectacular surf beaches at Fistral and Watergate Bay. Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" restaurant is located here. Padstow, with its fine selection of restaurants influenced by Rick Stein, is just over 25 miles away. Harbour side towns and villages such as Falmouth and St Mawes are all within easy reach.

To the south west, following the A30, Mount's Bay opens up before you with St Michael's Mount and then on past Penzance to the wild and rugged extremes of Land's End and Cape Cornwall. The open air Minack theatre is just the other side of Penzance and offers a truly stunning and surreal venue to take in a production; full details are on their website.

Superb Location

What a fantastic location! Just a few yards from the beach, so really useful in getting to the beach for catching some waves. The garden is delightful with such a great view/outlook, you can sit for hours just watching the waves etc. Local shops are helpful and can provide most of what you want without having to drive anywhere. We tried the fish and chip shop but must comment that we had a long wait for our food - probably an hour. The flat is very clean and well fitted out in the kitchen. Bedrooms are small, but adequate for 2 adults and two children. I would not say the smaller bedroom with the bunk beds is suitable for adults. We did experience a lot of noise from the neighbours above, so maybe that flat would benefit form being carpeted. Joining instructions etc were very detailed and clear. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be going back.

Great view of crashing waves on the beach

This place had pretty well everything we needed and it was all of Ikea quality, very suitable for a holiday apartment. The bed was very comfortable, firm and high enough, nice new bedding. The shower worked and was hot and there was plenty of hot water for two of us. The sofa was brilliant and four of us, two visitors and ourselves, had a good time watching films when the weather was rainy - they way it pulled out was very comfortable and encouraged us to be a bit lazy. Cooking was fine, lots of pots and pans and crockery etc and nice to have plastic sandwich bags and a few odds and ends. Very light and airy, quiet at night and during the day. A fantastic location, great views, pleasant little garden, very quiet pleasant dogs and cat next door, neighbours friendly. Nice to find books to read and dvds to watch, we managed to get the Sky thing working fine. Free Wifi was excellent and I had good EE mobile phone reception too.

Perfect Beachfront Appartment

The Dunes is perfectly located in Porthtowan with a nice view to the beach and afternoon sun on the terrace. There are some bars/pubs/cafes in short walking distance. The appartment was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Only the bed in the master bedroom could need a matress which is not that soft. I enjoyed the stay very much.

The selling point of this apartment is the location.

If you enjoy surfing or boogie boarding this rental is a dream location. You are 50m from the beach. The back garden is a big feature, we spent the mornings and evenings dining in this small but extremely practical sunny garden. This rental allowed us to feel relaxed and away from our every day life. The interior is clean and serves a purpose. The coastal walks surrounding are amazing and the local Blue Bar is great to chill in at the end of the day. Local shop is expensive, however Redruth is only 4 miles away, where there are plenty of supermarkets. All in all I would recommend, particularly if you like the waves. Thank you.

Hoilday in Porthtowan

We had a really good 2 weeks in Porthtowan and the cottage was lovley. The views from the garden are outstanding and the sunset every night made the location perfect. The cottage is very well equipped however if you could squeeze a small dishwasher in the kitchen it would be very welcome. I know opinions very but we found the mattress in the large bedroom a little to soft. Family's that like the beach will love it!!!!

Amazing views but pretty basic accomodation

My week long stay in The Dunes cost £700. For that amount of money I was expecting luxury in every department within the apartment; views, facilities and a few nice little touches. Whilst there is no question that the location and view from the garden is something truly special, the same cannot be said for the contents of the apartment. It appears to have been kitted out on the cheap. Every item seems like it has been sourced from Wilkinsons which was a real disappointment. Bearing in mind the amount of income that this apartment must generate, I feel that spending a bit more to make guests feel like they are in a unique and classy dwelling would be a welcome addition. Despite the very basic feel of it, the surroundings are outstanding, particularly on a clear summers evening when the sun is setting. We had a very enjoyable week but I wont be going back unless the owners spruce the place up a bit.

Convenient location handy for good surfing beach, local walks and attractions of the far south-west.

The ground-floor apartment is well located in Porthtowan for visiting our daughter. It was a pity that some floor tiles were missing from the kitchen area and the double bed was very low, giving us elderlies some exercise first thing in the morning to extricate ourselves! It was lovely to have views of the beach and sea from the small rear garden; a sun-trap. A good point is that there is still a pleasant outlook if the weather happens to be poor. If you enjoy a 'blow' on the beach or coastal path walk, you don't need to use your car - private parking at the flat. Village store and refreshment places within easy walking distance. Would use again.

Fantastic property set in a beautiful village

All the joys you would want to seek in Cornwall are within walking distance from the property. You can sit in the garden and have your tea whilst watching all the surfers still out catching the waves. All of the local shop keepers are really friendly including all the staff at the Blue Bar. Myself and my partner would throughly recommend this apartment to anyone and we will certainly be back again at some point in the coming months.

Perfect Break

Perfect location and with amazing weather, couldn't ask for more. Worried the view of the beach maybe blocked by neighbours fencing which would be a shame for future visitors as the sunsets were stunning to watch.
