The Brook is equidistant from St Agnes, Porthtowan and Portreath with their stunning beaches with fabulous surf and acres of golden sand. Porthtowan (meaning cove of sand dunes) has some of the best surf in the UK. However it is sometimes not for the faint hearted and beginners should be careful but there is an excellent surf school which operates from the beach. Portreath (meaning cove of sand) is a delightful village which extends both sides of a valley leading down into a little harbour and beach. West of the harbour entrance are two more beaches with golden sands that are popular with holidaymakers and surfers alike. The centre point on the Bissoe cycle trail that links the north and south coasts stretching from Devoran to Portreath. with predominantly off road mining trails passes the end of your drive - no driving required at all!.

Tin - the powerhouse of Cornwall's industrial past. Oak wooded, heather topped valleys with crystal streams once throbbed with the racket of tin streaming - winning precious metals. Engine houses and stacks bear stark, romantic testament to a heritage borne of the bravery and determination of generations of miners and Bal maidens. The area of Mid Cornwall, south west from Truro and only a short drive inland from Falmouth is full of this industrial heritage. The Victorian towns of Camborne and Redruth - both produced world-class inventors and engineers. Camborne's Richard Trevithick created the world's first steam-powered road engine in 1801. His achievements are celebrated at Camborne's annual Trevithick Day celebrations in April. You can follow in the footsteps of Cornwall's 18th Century tin miners on the atmospheric tour of the Poldark Mine just north of Helston.

Nearby is Stithians Lake, for fishing, sailing, sailboarding and recently the stunning wake-boarding championships. For views of the whole region take the roads to Carn Brea or Carn Marth above Camborne. From here you can see St Ives, St Michael's Mount, Falmouth and east to Clay Country. Near here is the Great Flat Lode Trail through the mines and high moors. These days, most of the mining has disappeared, but it is still a fascinating area to explore and is steeped in history. A highlight is to hire a bicycle and ride along the old mineral tramway now called the Bissoe Trail from Devoran to Portreath or the North Coast.

The harbour town of Falmouth is within a short drive with a number of attractions for the visitor. There is the fascinating National Maritime Museum or you can take a boat trip around the spectacular Carrick Roads or sample the stylish Rick Stein's Fish & Chip Restaurant or Oyster Bar.

The Helford River and Lizard Peninsula are also within easy reach.

The city of Truro is only a 7 mile drive to the north east and has a wide selection of good shopping including a Tescos, Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer and many other high street outlets. There is also a cinema and a great selection of restaurants, pubs & cafes. The resort of Newquay is about 12 miles to the north with its spectacular surf beaches at Fistral & Watergate Bay. Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" restaurant is located here. Padstow, with its fine selection of restaurants influenced by Rick Stein is just over 20 miles. Harbourside towns & villages such as Fowey, Falmouth & St Mawes are all within easy reach. For those flying to Cornwall, the airport is within easy reach.

A wonderful, comfortable stay in a pristine cottage with our young family

What a wonderful 2 week stay at The Brook! Everything about this cottage is wonderful. It was beautifully clean, comfortable and had everything needed to self cater fully as we did most days and felt like a real home away from home. As we have a young family, their enjoyment and safety was an important consideration and the layout, the lovely bedrooms and little additions like kids kitchenware, books, games and great TV as well as the outdoor area meant that we could all fully relax. Beverley and John could not have been more welcoming, there with great local knowledge and tips to help us have some great days out as well as treating us to Cornish cream tea and sweet treats! Great location, really quiet whilst still being central and easy to get to the main roads (also handy for back roads for a quieter more cross country journey!) We loved it, thank you Beverly and John and we will hopefully be back soon!

Peace and Calm

Relaxing week in clean and comfortable, well appointed cottage with mod-cons when you need them. Surrounded by open countryside, yet centrally located for coastal visits and large town facilities. Beverley and John live on site but were very discrete whilst welcoming and helpful, providing first-hand information about what and where to visit, walk and eat. If you want peace and quiet this is a truly rural retreat, perfectly situated with quiet roads and a joy to return to whatever the weather.

Family getaway for 1 week (4 adults and 2yr old)

We chose The Brook because it was in a good location for the places we wanted to visit. The actual property was really lovely and very quiet. We also had a 2 year old with us, and there was an area with a little playhouse and also the Hot tub (which we all loved!) The owners live next door, Bev and John and they were really helpful in every way!, lovely people, very welcoming. When we arrived there was a cream tea waiting for us, which was really nice.
