Property Location

Mawgan Porth, and the pretty village of St. Mawgan, sits in the perfect location for a peaceful, relaxing and wonderfully memorable holiday in Cornwall. Situated mid-way between Padstow and Newquay close to the South West Coastal Path on the rugged north Cornish coast, Mawgan Porth offers you a beautiful west-facing beach with stunning scenery, wondrous walks, and superb surfing. Furthermore, there are an amazing variety of restaurants to suit everyone's taste and pocket: including a cosy pub, seafood restaurant, cafes and takeaways.

Mawgan Porth's Sunday Times award-winning beach has acres of golden sands - great for relaxing, playing family games, building sandcastles, or just flying a kite. Rockpools abound and there are caves to explore. The fantastic Atlantic breakers make for magnificent surfing, be it on long/Malibu or bodyboards, so there's lots of fun for everyone under the watchful eye of the RNLI lifeguards who operate on the beach every day between April and September. Mawgan Porth and surrounding beaches are dog friendly, but please be responsible with your pets and don't let them interfere with the enjoyment of others using the beach. There are many activities in and around the local area such as fun crazy golf and pitch and putt course, which incidentally sits atop an Iron Age fort. Fishing (coarse, sea and trout), go-kart racing, and surf schools are other thrilling activities to try. There are plenty of local golf courses and two tennis courts available for hire in the village. There is ten pin bowling and many other attractions in Newquay. There is also a local vineyard and a candle factory - the list is endless!

For the walkers of this life, the South West Coastal Path passes right through Mawgan Porth, so from here you can walk northwards towards Padstow, passing en route the starkly beautiful and legendary Bedruthan Steps, supposedly created by the giant Bedruthan walking the coastline. You can, at low tide, go down the many steps (not those of the giant though) to this long and sandy beach to walk or explore the caves. There is a National Trust tea room with shop and toilets nearby - out of peak season they serve wonderful Sunday roasts! Walking on from here brings you to Porthcothan Bay, Treyarnon Bay with its natural swimming pool in the rocks at low tide, Constantine and Booby's Bay, Trevose Head and lighthouse, Mother Ivy's, Harlyn and Trevone Bays and finally Padstow from where, no doubt after a little refreshment, you can get a bus back to Mawgan Porth.

There is a full range of shopping facilities available in Newquay and more extensive shopping in Truro, cathedral capital city of Cornwall. Lots of fabulous restaurants within easy reach: Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant at Padstow and the 2 Michelin starred Restaurant Nathan Outlaw. Plus the wonderful Scarlet Hotel and Bedruthan Hotel which are both just a short stroll from Templeton.

Mawgan Porth lies in the Parish of St Mawgan-in-Pyder and the Parish Church dates from the 14th century. The church is the jewel of the beautiful Cornish village of St Mawgan, with its cricket ground, ancient inn, ford and convent. It’s well worth exploring! The pub in St Mawgan, The Falcon Inn, is a traditional country pub serving homemade food and has a wonderful log fire which roars throughout winter months.

Fabulous location
Reviewed on 27/08/2021

You would struggle to find a better location in terms of the view over the beach at Mawgan Porth. Good access to beach and local shops. The property has been modernised but requires a few more additions such as a tumble drier. The downstairs swimsuit and surfboard room is excellent and offers much for a large family with large kitchen and lounge. It is expensive but this is probably a factor with staycation holidays in 2021.

Caroline Clark replied:
We’re so glad you enjoyed Templeton’s stunning location and its’ ideal suitability for large families. It is an excellent idea to install a tumble dryer; which we will do. This winter, we will also be continuing with the modernisation of the property by replacing the bathrooms.

This bungalow is situated in one of the best locations in Mawgan Porth with unhindered views across the beach, with plenty of parking and a large garden. The wet room is perfect - well equipped with wet suits, body boards and beach games - and ideal when returning from surfing. The open plan kitchen and living areas flow well and the cupboards are very well equipped with cutlery and crockery. The main bedroom is very comfortable with wonderful views. The bunk bed room is small and I would not have wanted to have four children in there. The twin bedroom is comfortable but the mattresses creak with every movement. A very enjoyable but expensive holiday.

Caroline Clark replied:
We’re so glad you had an enjoyable holiday at Templeton with its unrivaled views and beach access. The quad bunk room is small, but we always found that our children and their cousins loved the adventure of snuggling up together, even now as adults! We will investigate the creaky twin beds to see if it is the mattresses or bed frames, and will replace as needed. Thank you for the excellent feedback. Caroline & Simon.

We really enjoyed our stay at Templeton which has incredible views being right on the beach front with a front garden area and a little walkway down to the beach when the tide is out. Superbly located for walks, local shopping not far and all the great pubs and restaurants in the area. The house is well appointed and very comfortable and the agents Cornwall Cottages look after you really well from the start of booking right through your stay. Thoroughly recommend this place and the agents.

It's all about location
Reviewed on 12/05/2021

We really enjoyed our stay at Templeton. It may not be the most modern home on the inside but this place is all about location and outside space. You really are just a stone's throw away from the beach an having the use of wetsuits and body boards is a real bonus. The kitchen is well equipped and we found the WiFi really reliable.
