Property Location

Withiel is situated about 5 miles from Wadebridge and 15 miles from both Newquay and Padstow. The Atlantic Coast of Cornwall offers some of the most picturesque and breathtaking scenery in the country with golden sandy beaches at 25 locations within 20 miles from Stables Cottage; these include Crantock, Fistral, Perranporth, Polzeath and Watergate Bay. Most of these are patrolled by RNLI lifeguards during the summer season. The coastal footpath delivers some stunning walks and incredible views through this dramatic section of coastline. Hustyns, the luxury spa and resort centre, is only 10 minutes away by car and offers day passes to the gym and swimming pool as well as a variety of beauty and spa treatments. There is also a first class restaurant. The golf courses of St Enodoc and Trevose are within easy reach.

These days Newquay's excellent surfing waters are the town's main industry, whereas it once used to be a major export port for the county's mining efforts as well as a north coast port for pilchard fisheries. Fistral Beach holds many surfing competitions throughout the year, and also hosts Run to the Sun over May Bank holiday, a VW and Custom Car Show. Both the Women's and Men's Gig Championships are held here, as is a balloon festival and surf and lifesaving events. Newquay Zoo now houses 130 different species in sub tropical gardens in the centre of the town.

Neighbouring Watergate Bay and The Extreme Academy offers you a 'ski resort on a beach' and a plethora of activities to keep even the most active occupied. Fifteen Cornwall, founded by Jamie Oliver in 2002, sits on top of the two mile beach at Watergate offering inspirational views for the young chefs and professionals to create fantastic menus from local and seasonal produce. The Lappa Valley Steam Railway just outside Newquay offers both the old and young an interesting day out. Newquay Airport has made the north coast one of the easiest places in Cornwall to get to, with regular flights from various locations across the UK. The town also has an Aquarium, a Waterworld and numerous immensely pretty beaches for the less active. Trerice, run by the National Trust and 3 miles outside of the town, is an Elizabethan manor house and garden with restricted winter opening times.

Wadebridge, once a market town, is now more widely known as being part of The Camel Trail, the cycle route out to Padstow from the depths of Bodmin Moor on the old tramway route. You can hire a bike at the start of the trail and cycle to Padstow, now famous for being home to Rick Stein's The Seafood Restaurant, amongst others which the celebrity chef owns in the town. From Padstow you could take a boat trip across the Camel Estuary to Rock and lounge on the beautiful beach that stretches all the way around to Daymer Bay. The National Lobster Hatchery neighbours Rick Stein's empire in Padstow.

The Royal Cornwall Show ground at Wadebridge hosts the county show every June, come rain or shine, and is opened each year by a member of the Royal Family. Cornish farmers have had to diversify in recent years and so has the Show, but they have kept their traditional roots with steam engines being shown next to the shiny new high-tech tractors. It's not every day you get to see formation JCB digger dancing in the main ring. The National Trust have three properties nearby - Lanhydrock House, Trerice and Carnewas & Bedruthan Steps. Slightly further afield is the Eden Project in St Austell, famously built in a disused china clay pit.

Excellent Quality

The quality of The Stables Cottage furniture and furnishings was excellent and more than compensated for what we thought was a somewhat out of of the way location when we arrived. We later found that the location was not unique and not a problem at all, because it seems the whole of Cornwall is 'somewhat out of the way'! It was wonderful! The accommodation could not have been better; the care and consideration of the owner was exceptional, with tea, coffee and milk available on arrival; and the help in locating a good golf course much appreciated. Unfortunately, the owner was away from the area and so was unable to sign us in to play at the two nearby championship courses. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Cornwall, my first, and given the quality of the accommodation we enjoyed at The Stables Cottage, it certainly won't be our last.

all ok but nothing to make memorable

All ok but missing something to make it memorable. Wondered why big dining table with 6 chairs when only sleeps 2?! Could make better use of space then :-)

Great cottage in a good location for exploring Cornwall

Very comfortable cottage and everything you would need in the kitchen and large comfortable bed, only slight initial problem was the designated parking bay which would be ok for a small car but a problem for our 4x4,apart from that an excellent cottage ideal for camel trail use.

Very lovely spacious cottage

Overall my partner and I enjoyed staying at the Cottage. It was the perfect size for the two of us. There were a few minor things that we thought could be replaced/updated such as the bedroom door but all in all very good. The only things we would suggest is including the use of the washing machine in the intro book because our neighbours parked in front of it everyday so we completely missed the sign on the building for it until the very last day. We would also suggest a recycling bin, as there was a lot we could have recycled. We would definitely stay here again because it really is a nice property, the area is beautiful and we were impressed by the extra little things included like the pack of leaflets for cornwall attractions and washing up liquid.

1 week in Cornwall

We stayed in The Stables for 1 week in June and absolutely loved it. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you can imagine, from Books, DVD's to full tea sets! For us, the location was ideal as it's set in the middle of a farm away from all the hustle and bustle however, it did mean that we had to drive everywhere. Having said that, we travelled all over Cornwall and it was easily accessible. Would definitely book here again.

Relaxing time in Cornwall

Our stay at Stables Cottage was very relaxing, in a very peaceful setting. The cottage itself was very well equipped, & also spacious, overlooking a very pretty farm court yard. Being fairly close to both Wadebridge & Bodmin, essential facilities were close at hand. We were blessed by amazing weather too! One comment would be to provide more accurate directions to the cottage, we had difficulty finding it after coming off the A30, then taking the wrong road/lane out of Withiel. We don't all have Sat Navs!!

Lovely cottage for two in rural location

We loved the location of the cottage especially for dog walking. The property was nicely presented and the kitchen well equipped. The bedroom with its great bed was brilliant. We were comfortable in the cottage. I would personally not put carpets down when pets are allowed. Laminate flooring would be easier to clean and more hygienic. Great that dogs were allowed. The only thing that let the property down was the bathroom (ensuite). It was old and tired - but the water pressure was good and towards the end of our stay it smelled strongly of mold and drainage system almost like ammonia. We feel a brand new bathroom with modern touches is highly recommended. With an updated bathroom and central heating we would be more than happy to recommend this property.

The stables

We stayed in the stables the last week of August, and it was a lovely cottage/ barn conversion will all the amenities provides in a lovely quiet location. the stables was very comfortable and I would not hesitate to stay there again. Although the location was a distance from the nearest town 5 miles into wade bridge it was a great central point for going out and exploring the whole of cornwall.

top class stay

Absolutely brilliant, cannot be faulted at all, a real home from home in every way. Set well away from any main roads, so very typically cornish and quaint. We loved it here and will not hesitate to book the Stables Cottage again for any future holidays in Cornwall. Was very tastefully furnished, and the king size bed was an added bonus! Everything was already for your use, including dishwashing tabs, cleaning products and even provide you with fluffy towels to use for your stay. Cannot praise this holiday rental enough, truly was the best we have ever stayed in. The housekeepers are a credit to the stables owner too, very accomodating and friendly and go that extra mile to assist. Thank you and we will be back. Tony and Linda

Lovely accommodation with extras that made our stay easier

Owners called us prior to us leaving and provided us with an uograde to Thyme cottage instead of Stables giving us an extra bedroom for our 18 month old baby. Everything was ready for us on arrival including a very clean high chair and travel cot. Nice little extras in kitchen such as condiments, washing up liquid and soap extra which you do not get in some places. If I would provide any suggestions it would be a simple thing such as a stair gate at the top of the stairs so toddler has a freedom to roam. However, the cottages are not targeted as children so we did not expect this at all and owners had said there were stairs so no way a criticism as could not fault the friendliness or cleanliness of cottage.

first visit to Cornwall

The cottage is ideal for a couple who want to explore Cornwall. It has all the facilities we need and the rooms are spacious and bright. Some kitchen equipment and shower room may need updating due to being outdated and well used. The sofas and bed may need replacing as they are not very comfortable. Nevertheless, our stay at the cottage was very pleasant and quiet which was what we wanted.

Lovely stay

We had a lovely 3 night stay in Stables Cottage, it was a last minute booking and I could not have been happier with the cottage, it is set in a beautiful courtyard, the rooms are really spacious and there is an excellent selection of books and DVDs provided to use. While it is a little out of the way, with a car it does not take long to get to nearby towns and the coast.

Not as advertised

Very remote, nothing close by on foot.Access by car very arduous, nightmare journey to and from cottage to reach main highway(not mentioned on website).Furniture not very comfortable.Equipment I.e ironing board not there.

From the Owner:
I am sorry you did not enjoy your holiday at Stables Cottage.Obviously the rural location was not what you expected. The location is well advertised on the web site 5 miles from Bodmin and Wadebridge and 25 minutes from the coast in an Area of Outstanding Beauty.I am not in a position to have the roads widened.Over many years I have had guests at the 5 cottages and they are fully aware of situation. As to The Cottage it was converted 5 years ago new zip and link beds new shower new kitchen etc.It is furnished with antiques which might not be to everyones liking.I have had nothing but compliments on the cleanliness of the cottages. My Housekeeper is extremely diligent.I am sorry there was no ironing board this will be rectified. I would recommend that in future a town or large village would be more suitable.
