Property Location

The beautiful town of Marazion, set on the shores of Mount's Bay, has for long been a hot favourite for tourism in West Cornwall. Its clean, sandy beaches, with stunning views toward the Lizard Peninsula and Land's End, have established Marazion as the most wonderful destination for beach holidays in Cornwall.

Mount's Bay, renowned as one of the most beautiful bays in the world, provides a safe seaside environment for swimming.

Marazion is also a popular destination for windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing. A number of major sporting events in these fields are held on Marazion's beaches. Marazion is perhaps more widely famed as being the gateway to the enchanting Saint Michael's Mount, the jewel in Cornwall's crown. Saint Michael's Mount is accessed by a causeway, once walked by pilgrims in honour of the alleged appearance of Saint Michael, which is revealed at low tide. At other times visitors are ferried from Marazion to the Mount in small boats.

Marazion is within easy travelling distance of all major attractions in West Cornwall, and is the ideal base for your holiday in Cornwall. Marazion is a short distance along the beach from Penzance, and from here it is simple to travel to Land's End, St Ives, Newquay, Helston, and the popular destinations of the Minack Theatre, the St. Ives Tate Gallery and the Eden Project.

Nearby Penzance, meaning 'holy headland' is the last major town before Lands End. The market town was once made famous as the birthplace of Sir Humphrey Davy, now services the Isles of Scilly by land and sea. The streets of Penzance hold many historic buildings dating from the 17th century; it is well worth a walk around. The Turk's Head pub on Chapel Street reputed to date from 1233 is the older pub in the town, steeped in smuggling and pirate history. A few minutes down the road is Newlyn, home to one of the largest fishing fleets with over 40 acres of harbour as well as more recently attracting many great artists and exhibitions.

Amazing location, spacious and welcoming.

We all enjoyed our stay here. The location is good, and access to the A30 and Penzance was easy enough, and the Park and Ride at St Erth was a short drive. The house it self was very spacious and allows you to either keep together as a group or spread out. My wife and myself especially loved the loft bedroom. Having 2 bathrooms was good, as it meant no queuing yo use. Housekeeper and owners quick to respond if you have any questions. Would defiantly stay here again. If visiting the island, don't make our mistake and leave until last day... we had storms and so was sadly closed to the public.

Perfect family stay

Just perfect for our family. Plenty of space for 4 adults and 2 children (6 and 2 3/4). Location ideal too ... easy access to everything whether you want to walk, drive or use public transport. Parking 2nd vehicle in next street was easy ... Plenty of space and in peak season too. Thank you for the milk butter bread and jam ... nice touch. Enough of everything (crockery, towels etc). Internet was fine and good for the area. Couldn't find the recycling boxes ... so we recycled at home. Perhaps this could be added to the useful notes left for us.

A lovely stay but...

We had a lovely stay but there are a few additions to Smithy Cottage that would have made our review more positive... (a) Provision of cleaning products for the bathrooms and toilets (b) A spare bin liner (we just had the one left in the bin) (c) Provision for recycling...which we noted was collected from neighbouring houses (d) A second door key would have been useful (e) Spare lightbulbs...the hallway light had 2 of the 3 bulbs blown (f) Finding a flea in the upstairs bathroom was not a nice experience (g) We had to clean out dishwasher filter on our first night as it was full of the previous renter's dinner - onion & mince

75/100

The cottage was well represented, sofas and beds very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment but the cutlery didn't fully cater for 6 people. Two of the bedrooms didn't have dressing tables, nowhere to put clothes on at night.

Easter medicen

All the family loved the place . 2. Things which I mention 1. Could it be mentioned block wood floors, bathroom had no mat , ending up with useing towel to stand on after washing. 2. It would be kinder to the eye of walls in garden area where leaf green, I could paint some trees and plants for you.

Spring holiday

The place was ideal location for us, just a short walk to the beach for the dog to enjoy himself. The cottage had everything that was required, but if you have a dog there is no grass in the garden so its little jollies out but if was fine for us. Plenty of walks to enjoy. It was a lovely place for us to escape.

Review of Smithy Cottage

The cottage was in a great location, easy walking to village, pub and beach. The beds were extremely comfortable loved the attic room. The cottage was furnished tastefully and well equipped. The parking was adequate for our one estate car, if you had two cars it may be difficult to park the second car. As we stayed over the Christmas period it would have been nice if there was a small Christmas tree, however this is only a minor point and did not spoil our stay.

Quiet Location

Nice to have bread, milk and butter waiting for us after a 600 mile drive.Very quiet and easy to explore from the house either on foot or by car. The walk round Mount's Bay into Penzance is lovely. House could do with a good clean though, previous occupant's coffee stains still on the heater, thick dust in several places and empty drinks bottle on the floor in sitting room. Vacuum cleaner hopeless, got better results with the dust pan and brush! Netflix only available if you already have a subscription, the description of the cottage on the website implies that it will be available for you to watch when you get there.

From the Owner:
Thankyou for your review most helpful just to explain regarding cleanliness I have spoken to the cleaner who had cleaned the house the week before and it was unoccupied until your arrival but the carpenter had gone in on the 9th November to do some repairs and I forgot to tell the cleaner hence the dust etc so apologies for that also you mentioned the hoover not being efficient this will be replaced. Our cleaner who incidentally has put her phone number on the fridge door and could have been contacted uses a Shark vacuum cleaner which is very efficient. Wish you well and hopefully you will come back to Smithy Cottage again in the future. Kind regards, Mike Thomas (owner)

Great holiday

We Loved Smithy Cottage, comfortable, homely and in a good location. To make this property perfect a decent washing machine, tumble drier (struggled to dry clothes) and the oven door also condensates and leaves a pool of water on the floor, looks like the door cooling fan is possibly faulty. But overall would rate this property very high and we will hopefully return next year.

Newcomers to Marazion

The property proved to be a good base for the 4 of us. Beds were very comfortable and bathroom and shower room were to a good standard. Parking at the property was a bonus as parking is at a premium in Marazion. Smithy Cottage is a 10 minute walk from the centre of Marazion with plenty of local shops, galleries and restaurants. Ideal for visiting St Michaels Mount.

A week in Cornwall

The property was booked late and we could not have been given any more support from Jenna at Cornwalls Cottages. Jenna worked with me late into the evening to finalise the booking and everything was exactly as described.

Comfortable, clean, well-equipped house.

Smithy Cottage is in a good location on the edge of Marazion within walk-able distance to local amenities, the beach and St Michael's Mount. The house itself is very comfortable, having two bathrooms and the added space of the conservatory and garden area was practical for our family. The owner contacted us via text on the day of our arrival and it was helpful to know he was available if needed. With parking at a premium in this busy little place it was reassuring to know the house had it's own parking spot. We would certainly recommend Smithy Cottage and would look to come back when we next visit Cornwall.

Lovely Cottage

Lovely house in a quiet part of Marazion and close to the centre of town. Great pub nearby with a lovely view over Marazion castle. We arrived and found the house well supplied with everything you need to stay in and cook your own meals. Lovely gesture of finding milk, butter and bread on arrival...just what you need after a long drive. The house was super clean and the beds comfy. I highly recommend Smithy Cottage.

Excellent accommodation

Great arrangements. Lovely stay for any duration. Brand new facilities really satisfied me. But parking is a bit problem because you can park only one car in front of the house. For multiple car you have to park at the next road. apart from that excellent place to live. Highly recommended.
