Lovely stay on the Lizard
Reviewed on 14/08/2018We loved the location of Skyber Lowen. Kennack Sands was just 15 mins walk away and was much quieter and easier to park at than some of the more well known beaches. The area was really peaceful. The house was just what we needed, really well equipped. The garden was perfect for our boys to run around in.

Good family retreat
Reviewed on 02/08/2018Situated in a very quiet location, easily catered for 6 adults. Well equipped kitchen and living area. Unfortunately due to lots of exposed wood there was a distinct smell of creosote particularly in bedrooms and bathrooms. Plenty space/gardens around property to relax. Directions to property could be amended to say turn left at coach house, both cars missed the turning.
Tim Rumney replied:
Thank you for your review and for your kind comments about the kitchen and living area, and for your score of 5 for Cleanliness - we will pass this on to our Housekeeper.
For future guests I'd like to add that we have check and find that the arrival instructions are clear that the drive is before the Coach House and state "just past Namparra Campsite but before the Coach House B&B.
Turn down the gravel driveway and you will see the wooden gates for Skyber Lowen ahead just beyond the first barn. The owners find it helps to carefully reverse down - makes driving out a lot easier, as it is possible, but not that easy, to turn in the drive"
In addition, the floors in the bathrooms are varnished and the doors suitably treated with an internal finish. There is no creosote used anywhere in the building as this would be entirely unsuitable indoors.

drainage system needs updating
Reviewed on 07/07/2018after only one night at skyberlowen we had overflowing and blocked drains. one telephone call and this was dealt with straight away. the rest of our stay was comfortable with the best stocked kitchen appliances and utensils ever!
Tim Rumney replied:
We were so pleased to receive 5 stars for customer service in responding so promptly and effectively to the issue you experienced with the drains and naturally are sorry for the inconvenience this rare and unfortunate event caused.
To reassure you and future guests, Skyber Lowens drain system is in great shape and no stone has been left unturned literally to find the cause of the recent problem. The fault has been traced to a neighbouring property and this is in the process of being repaired. We are confident that no other updating is required.
Were glad you had a comfortable stay and that the kitchen was so much to your liking. We very much hope that you will return to Skyber Lowen in the future.

Perfect family holiday
Reviewed on 23/05/2018We just spent 13 brilliant days staying at Skyber Lowen and would absolutely stay there again - it's a really clean, comfortable and conveniently-located holiday home with a brilliant grassy garden with secure gates and a slide/swing which our two boys (3 and 2) loved. It's just a 10 minute walk or very short drive to Kennack Sands beach (very safe) and within a 20 minute drive of lovely places like the Lizard, Gunwalloe Church Cove, Roskillys Farm and the Cornish Seal Sanctuary. The cleanliness of Skyber Lowen is really to be complimented considering the amount of sand that must make its way indoors and the main room upstairs is so light and airy with massive windows we had open most of the time. The kitchen is really well equipped, we even baked a cake to use up some ripe bananas and found everything we needed from electric whisk to scales and baking tins! We wouldn't say Skyber Lowen was particularly equipped for young children. A stairgate at the top of the steep, turning stairs was the only child-related thing we noted, and our 3 year old immediately worked out how to undo it, which meant a lot of telling off whenever he left it open near our 2 year old. It would be great if the owners could keep a fold-up highchair and travel cot in the understairs cupboard and replace the existing single stairgate with two others that have more challenging mechanisms for young fingers. The supplies provided for a 13 night stay were minimal - one (not quite full) bottle of liquid soap, one bin bag, one dishwasher tablet, one loo roll - so bring supplies with you. We stay in self catering accommodation a lot, and this kind of meanness is irritating when you've arrived after your journey. On the other hand, all our towels were changed halfway through our stay which was an unexpected treat, having just decided to wash them all! Those things aside, we had a really lovely time and our boys felt so much at home at Skyber Lowen that, all in all, the holiday was a real success.

Comfortable home
Reviewed on 11/10/2017We loved our stay at Skyber Lowen, the property was clean, tidy and very comfortable with a fresh bottle of milk on arrival so we could make tea. The shop at Ryan Minor and the local dairy are close by for food supplies. The only observation I have to make is that the garden, whilst enclosed, is wire so four legged guests will be able to see the sheep. This is worth noting for dog owners whose pets may not be used to sheep! This doesn't put us off booking again.

A great house for a family holiday.
Reviewed on 30/07/2017The house was well equipped and the upstairs living space was sunny and very comfortable. The garden is great for kids, but if your taking dogs be aware that there are sheep in the next door field. Surrounding landscape and beaches are fantastic. My only criticism would be - more pillows in the bedrooms - one each is a bit uncomfortable.

The Perfect Holiday Home
Reviewed on 19/03/2017We absolutely loved our stay here. The accommodation is beautiful and light and airy. It was cold in the bedrooms the first night, presumably because it had not been inhabited immediately beforehand and we arrived late so could not do anything with the night storage heaters until the next day (it was February). Once we had set the night storage heaters up correctly - following the instructions in the house - it was perfectly warm and cosy though. The house is very well equipped and comfortable. Our only complaints, and they are minor ones, are that the big shag pile rug by the log burner was full of dog hair. I should imagine that it is quite hard to clean, but we were all covered in hairs after making the mistake of sprawling about on it on the first day. Apart from that (and under the cushions of the sofa - we don't make a habit of carrying out sofa inspections, but our youngest had lost board game pieces by pushing them into the sofa) the house was very clean. When we arrived there was just the smallest amount of loo roll in one of the loos and none in the other. We couldn't get to the shops until the morning so it was quite an inconvenience. It was a bit strange not to have left a roll or two for new arrivals, but perhaps it was just a one off oversight. Finally, the Internet was very very slow and more often than not, there was no connectivity at all. BUT, we are yet to find a holiday home in Cornwall where the Internet does work efficiently so it did not come as a surprise. Worth mentioning though in case someone desperately needs connectivity. The above points really are minor and we cannot recommend this place highly enough. The children loved it too. We will definitely be back.

Reviewed on 13/06/2016We're return visitors to this part of Cornwall, although hadn't been to this particular area of the Lizard Peninsula. This was a relatively late booking, and we were so fortunate to find somewhere as comfortable and to as high a standard as Skyber Lowen - thanks to Cornwall's Cottages for the suggestion! The property is well equipped with all you could possibly need, and its condition and cleanliness were faultless. We came with family friends who were truly impressed with the place, the proximity of the beach and the number, quality and friendliness of nearby places to visit and t which to eat/drink. Our labrrador dog was highly impressed too! The road through Kuggar has a level of traffic due to the location of Kennack Sands, and through traffic from Ruan Minor or the Lizard, but all manageable. All in all, a fantatstic, relaxing stay - thank you owners for allowing us to share your beautiful home

Perfect cottage on the Lizard
Reviewed on 24/08/2014This "upside down" recently converted barn is in a peaceful location, around 15 minutes from Kennack Sands. It is beautifully and thoughtfully presented - and it is difficult to think how it could have been better. Plenty of space for our teenagers, both inside and out, but would have been just as perfect for them when they were younger (stair gates, safe garden etc). There is a patio and BBQ provided, and swing and slide for younger children. The house was spotlessly clean on arrival, the kitchen was well equipped and we had everything we needed. Kenack Sands is not that great a beach, but Cagwith Cove is a magical working fishing community just 35 mins walk away along the coast path. Kynance and Mullion nearby for bathing.

Skyber Lowen w/c 25th April 2014
Reviewed on 04/05/2014Skyber Lowen is a pleasant cottage and my wife and I shared the property with our son, our daughter-in-law and granddaughter aged two and a half. The sitting room and kitchen diner are open-planned and comfortable and well equipped. They are situated on the first floor which allows the views over the n earby fields to be enjoyed. The owners had supplied some basic but useful odds and ends to assist with settling in; tea and coffee, biscuits etc; Shopping is possible on the outskirts of Helston. There is a Sainsbury's superstore approx 15 minute drive away. We would recommend this property to others. It is very peaceful and Kennack Sands can be reached in 15 minutes by foot. Two points to bear in mind; there were several minor complaints in a notebook provided by the owners..........a repeated theme was that one of the ovens (left hand side) was not working and the explanation provided by the owner was not clear. We have a similar cooker range at home and future occupiers need to be advised that if the cooker is turned off at the main wall switch, the LH oven will not operate until the time is reset on the digital timer after switching on the cooker at the main switch. Secondly, we failed to get to grips with the hot water supply and this resulted in a hit and miss affair over hot water/baths. These really are only minor matters though and did not detract from our enjoyment.

Reviewed on 23/10/2013A very pretty and really well-equipped cottage with easy access and plenty of parking. The secure, gated garden meant we did not having to worry about our dogs going anywhere they shouldn't. Lovely soft furnishings and stylish decor meant Skyber Lowen provided comfortable and homely accommodation. The local pub is certainly not for families which was a little disappointing because we had to drive to the nearest alternative. Check In/Out times are not favourable to guests (10am/4pm). If we wanted to visit in Late Autumn/Winter/Early Spring, we would be unpacking in the dark. And to be out by 10am seems a bit mean. It would be more generous to offer 11am/3pm checkin/checkout times.
