The farm is located 1.6 miles from Crackington Haven, which is included in the best surfing beaches in England and was recommended by the Marine Conservation Society in its Good Beach Guide. The scenery in the beach area of the surrounding majestic cliffs is almost unrivalled. At high tide, the beach is a mass of quartz-veined pebbles and large boulders but at low tide, it reveals an expanse of sand and many rock pools. Only the road separates the sea from a couple of beach shops, two superb beach cafes and a public house with a restaurant and fantastic terrace. The farm is located in the parish of St. Gennys, which prides itself on the excellence of its public paths with the National Trust owning most of the cliff and adjacent farmland.

As you travel down the coastline, you can visit quaint coastal villages such as Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac, the latter offering a range of fantastic restaurants where you can enjoy the freshest and most delicious fish.

Fifteen minutes up the coast is Bude, a popular tourist destination for both its surfing and fantastic family beaches in Widemouth Bay. The watchful eye of the RNLI lifeguards allows for some of the best surfing in the world alongside swimming and a whole host of water-based activities. Bude today is a lovely sea-side town, the main shopping streets and inter-connecting alleyways play host to a wide range of locally owned shops, restaurants and pubs. There are boutiques, shoes, arts & crafts, jewellery, hand-made gifts and souvenirs.

Six miles inland is Bodmin Moor, one of Cornwall's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cornwall at its wildest and rich in ancient history, Bodmin Moor stretches for 30 miles through the heart of the County of Cornwall and offers spectacular walking and horse riding. With easy access to the both the A30 and the Atlantic Highway you can quickly travel up and down the South-West to enjoy some of the larger tourist attractions that Devon and Cornwall have to offer.

Lovely place

Lovely barn conversion with all the mod cons you'd expect. The scones with jam and clotted cream on arrival was a lovely touch. Given that it's a working farm it was great that the owners were keen to get guests involved at feeding times. The kids enjoyed meeting the resident pigs, chickens and sheep and the chance to eat eggs straight from the coop. The rural location suited us - appearing to be quite remote down a country lane, surrounded by fields with great views from the communal BBQ terrace, but ideally located within a 5 min drive of a lovely beach at Crackington Haven and not too far from Bude, which has all the local amenities. A thoroughly enjoyable stay!

Perfect for the family..

Skyber Barn was a beautiful place to stay, with something to appeal to all three generations of our family - and the dog! A comfortable, modern space inside a very traditional Cornish barn, with helpful and friendly owners just next door if you need them, we would recommend Skyber Barn to any families or couples looking for a rural retreat in the Cornwall countryside.

Overall a very enjoyable stay

We stayed at the Skybarn in early September and, generally speaking, had a very enjoyable stay. The barn itself is lovely, with all the amenities that you would hope for. In addition to the barn itself, the grounds are great for adults and children - the bbq area is a really good addition and the farm kept our child occupied! Despite the above, there was one criticism of the barn, which was that the floors were not clean. We have a young child who spends most of her time brawling on the floor. It was therefore dissapointing that they were dirty and needed a good clean when we got there.

Reply from Ross Weir

We are very sorry that on this occasion the floors were not cleaned properly. We will work with our cleaning staff to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Relaxation at its best

Skyber barn was the most relaxing holiday I've had. Incredibly peaceful surroundings with views out to sea. The accommodation was clean spacious and family friendly. The barn itself has been renovated and furnished in clean modern way that suits it's country setting, the best compliment I could give the owners we immediately felt at home. The barbecue area came in handy on more than one occasion and the outdoor seating area is modern and really quite large. The farm shop sells fresh eggs, bread and milk. It also has a selection of local produce ranging from drinks and chocolate to toiletries made down the rd. We really could not recommend skyber barn enough and would love to return.

Our holiday at Skyber Barn

Now under (1 week) new owners Ross and Becky, who are working very hard to upgrade the facilities, although we had everything we needed for 4 adults and 4 year old twins. We were welcomed on arrival with a lovely cream tea and nothing was too much trouble, including helping with our impromptu birthday party for the children. The farm is well situated for all the lovely beaches near to Bude and many other attractions which we visited most days. We loved the peace and quiet and the shared garden with lovely views was perfect for sitting with a glass of wine. Although at this time of year (September), it got too cold to sit out in the evening, we still barbecued most days and could have braved it by lighting the wood burning stove. As Ross and Becky had not really settled in, they welcomed any suggestions we had to improve the facilities, but generally it was very comfortable and well equipped.

A review of our stay at Skyber Barn

No full Sky package as promised. Vacuum cleaner does not suck up anything. No sweeping brush only a dustpan and brush for a 8 person property. Had to clean around loo on arrival as filthy. Had to clean mould from shower before my daughter would use it. Shortage of cooking pots. Fridges filthy with mould around door seals. Grease all over extractor fan. Greasy tiles around cooker. Had to clean the kitchen worktops on arrival. Had to clean dining table on arrival as joints full of food crumbs from previous occupants. Crumbs under cushions on furniture. Decoration in a poor condition with plasterwork damaged. Radiators rusty. Curtains full of stains. Images on Cornwalls Cottages web site do not reflect the state of this property.

Reply from Ross Weir

Thanks for the feedback. This review was before we took ownership of the business. Needless to say we have addressed all of the points that you raised including restoring the full sky package, replacing radiators, replacing the fridge, fridge freezer and dishwasher. In addition, the ensuite shower room now has a door and the family bathroom has been completely replaced. A modern and eco friendly biomass boiler system has been installed to ensure reliable heating and hot water.
