Property Location

Portscatho and its neighbouring village of Gerrans are located on the eastern coast of the Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall, overlooking the dramatic Gerrans Bay. A truly peaceful waterside village, Portscatho is a lovely place for a holiday. There are miles of coastal and countryside footpaths to explore, particularly along St Anthony's Head. Portscatho was once a busy fishing harbour, but now it has become a haven for artists due to the striking light which is particularly good in the morning sun. More than anything, Portscatho is a relaxing place. The beaches such as Porthcurnick, Towan and Porthbeor are simply idyllic and these are only minutes from the village. With a superb local butchers shop, 2 great little pubs and a well stocked local store, Portscatho and Gerrans are a lovely place to spend a holiday.

Just to the west of Portscatho is St Mawes which is one of the finest waterside villages in Cornwall. Situated overlooking an idyllic bay on the eastern side of the famous Falmouth Estuary, St Mawes has one of the mildest climates in Britain due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream. The sea is at the heart of the village and has helped to shape St Mawes from the little fishing village to the fashionable holiday destination that is so popular with visitors. A mecca for boating enthusiasts, St Mawes is a particularly popular sailing centre. Weekly club racing, village regattas and larger events are commonplace on the superb waters of the bay all through the summer. St Mawes has so much to offer the visitor. St Mawes Castle was built by Henry VIII and is a splendid place to take in the views of the Carrick Roads.

There are miles of coastal and countryside walks to take in and some idyllic beaches on which to relax and watch the world go by. The little Place ferry takes visitors to explore St Anthony's Head or there are regular ferries to Falmouth. Being situated on the seafront, the village is also known for the restaurants and pubs that serve superb fish and shellfish dishes all year round. There is a selection of pubs & hotels with restaurants (including the renowned Tresanton Hotel) all within easy walking distance. There is a range of shops all within a few minutes’ walk including a Cooperative store, Post Office, chemist, butcher, baker and art & clothes shops. The village also has a doctor’s surgery and a dentist’s surgery.

There are some stunning locations to eat on the Roseland including the Michelin starred Driftwood restaurant on the way down to Rosevine beach where the chef, Chris Eden, and his team deliver a truly special experience, you will obviously need to book this one early. There is also the Hidden Hut located above the field at Rosevine with its eclectic menus, convivial atmosphere, bring your own booze and social media driven events list! (Best find them on Facebook to see what is on!) The Hidden Hut has received rave reviews from the local and national press and the management team have just opened Tatams wood fired Taverna in the village. Slightly further afield are the Nare Hotel and Quarterdeck with fine dining and dramatic views across Gerrans Bay, the world renowned Tresanton Hotel in St Mawes or the newly refurbished Idle Rocks Hotel. On top of this list there are some excellent country pubs in all of the local villages supporting Cornish produce and local beers.

Our 2nd stay at Seagrass

It's a very good location. A beautiful view and a short walk to anywhere in Portsmouth. It's nice that it had a parking spot so our family could visit us. The only repair that would be nice is if the reclining chair would be fixed. It doesn't recline. Other than that, everything was very nice. Would definitely stay there again.

Nice apartment at a beautiful place. Ideal for walking, swimming and discovering Cornwall.

The first impression of Seagrass is awesome. The view on the Portscatho bay and the atmosphere of the apartment are just what you want when you book a holiday in Cornwall. The village is cosey and the "must sees" of Cornwall are within a reasonable distance. The best are the walks around the village and along the coastline. In the Portscatho store we bought an useful walkingmap which was worth every penny. The only negative point was the cleanliness. Obviousely there had been a hairy dog in the apartment before us and there was no vacuumcleaner available to get rid of the hair. A point that can be improved easily, we think, and make Seagrass the perfect holiday apartment.

Portscatho

Seagrass is an excellent property, ideally situated in Portscatho, with easy access to the local amenities & costal paths. The parking space is a big advantage, as parking in the village can be tricky, although there is a free car park in Gerrans at the top of the hill. We would definitely like to return to the property in future.

An attractive comfortable house in a beautiful setting. Wonderful for children

Thank you for sorting out the towel issue. There is a light bulb in the sitting area that needs replacing. Otherwise a very comfortable and stress free stay. Thank you

Lovely, peaceful apartment

We had a wonderful stay at Seagrass apartment in the quaint village of Portscatho. The apartment is compact but entirely suitable for 4 of us. Lovely views from the apartment and close to the local facilities. Ideal location for a family week away. Would happily return again.

Excellent location with Sea view

Had a great weekend in lovely Portscatho. Great to be able to see the sea from the sofa, convenient if you want to walk to the pub and theres a small shop too. Has its own parking which is essential in Portscatho and a lovely walk around the coast path is just round the corner. Everyone loved the electric armchair. We did find the double bed very firm and feather pillows would have been nicer, but that's probably personal preference. Well priced for the location though.

Stayed at Seagrass fm Nov. 14 to 27 2018

Seagrass is located just steps from Gearran's Bay with excellent views from the living room window. Every day was a different view of the waves and tides. The condo was spacious and very clean. I would definitely stay there again.

Location of apartment was very good with its own parking space .convenient for walking coastal path

Enjoyed the location but the bed and sofa need replacing. The mattress sloped in the middle and the sofa was sagging so uncomfortable

From the Owner:
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The mattress on the double bed has now been replaced since your stay. With regards to the sofa, this has flock filled base cushions that mould to you when you sit on them. I do give them a good plump up on every change over and the lady who runs the local upholstery business here in the village has kindly added extra flock to the sofa base cushions.

Lovely holiday

First time we've stayed here, and it was great. The flat was just what we needed, with everything you need for a week away form home (apart from a towel rail in the bathroom and some hanging hooks on the back of the doors, but they are very small gripes) , and the village of Portscatho is beautiful with a fabulous cove, a really well-stocked shop, cafes and a pub. The view from the flat is stunning, an added bonus We had a fabulous time and would definitely return to this property.

From the Owner:
Thank you for taking the time to review our apartment and so glad to hear you had a great stay. As its now coming into our quiet time, I'm getting around to all the little jobs that need doing in preparation for next year. Hooks on the back of the bathroom door and a second towel rail are on my list. Thank you and hope to see you again.

The perfect location

The location close to the sea and harbour was perfect with an easy level walk into the village shop and pub. However, the standard of furnishings was somewhat basic and did not match the usual standard expected or experienced in other self-catering stays in Cornwall. This property could have been awarded 5 stars if the furnishings had been up to standard.

From the Owner:
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am sorry you felt that the apartment was somewhat basic. My remit when setting up the apartment was to provide an apartment that is comfortably furnished with all mod cons but remains affordable. I also allow dogs to stay in the apartment and have to be mindful that all furnishings can be easily cleaned. We have had no other comments in either reviews or within the guest book in the apartment. When pricing stays at the apartment I have tried to make sure it represents value for money and can offer reasonably priced accommodation in an area that can be very expensive to stay. I as the owner do all the cleaning and changeovers and pride myself that cleanliness is kept at a high standard and the apartment is always left in a welcoming manner for my guests.
