Nearby is the bustling resort of Newquay. These days Newquay's excellent surfing waters are the towns main industry, where as it once used to be a major export port for the counties mining efforts as well as a north coast port for pilchard fisheries. Fistral Beach holds many surfing competitions throughout the year, and also hosts Run to the Sun over May Bank holiday, a VW and Custom Car Show. Both the Womens and Mens Gig Championships are held here, as well as a balloon festival and surf and lifesaving events. There are many caves and rock pools to explore with a large expanse of sandy dunes, providing shelter and privacy. Fishing from the beach is good and the excellent cliff walks provide breathtaking views.
Holywell Bay derived its name from a spring fed well, said to have curative properties. It was custom in the older days that parents brought their sick children and dipped them in the well. Above the well is a small cave where the children were lowered from. The well is to be found at the north end of the beach in a large cave, reached only at low tide.

Very surprisedReviewed on 23/09/2021
My friend booked this holiday, I thought ok in a yurt that means roughing it, I was so wrong and very pleasantly surprised, the poppy yurt is so cute such a shame we didn't have kid's with us they would have loved it, the yurt is like a tardis so much room inside, and very clean, 20 seconds walk away are the facilities the toilets showers also very clean, the kitchen has everything you need and more including washing machines and dryers ,the heated pool and hot tub was lovely still only seconds away from the yurt no worries if you forgot to take your towel, the play park is next to the poppy yurt you can watch the kids while sat in your yurt garden, the only complaint is not really a complaint is I found the mattress a bit hard for me and having my dog's with me could have really done with a little gate to stop the dog's getting out of the garden, I would definitely go again.

Short stay in OctoberReviewed on 23/10/2020
We stayed in the Poppy Yurt for 3 nights. The yurts and the barn are relatively far apart giving a feeling of privacy. The accomodation was spacious and comfortable, and the facilities (kitchen, play area, shower/toilet) were clean and very well equipped. We particularly enjoyed one evening in the hot-tub after a day's walking on the coast (check out https://www.iwalkcornwall.co.uk/ if you are looking for some ideas).

Everything includedReviewed on 13/07/2015
Absolutly amazing time staying at the Poppy Yurt; everything you could have possibly needed was included; such as an umbrella, torch, even a corkscrew. Heated swimming pool was an added bonus. Highly recommend this property.
