Property Location

The Lizard has been designated an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ as it justifiably deserves. It’s teeming with diverse wildlife and beautiful coves, stunning cliff paths, sandy beaches, fishing villages and spectacular scenery. The Nanfan Barn cottages are perfectly set up by the Owners to ensure a relaxing, tranquil holiday in spacious accommodation and superb views. It has a remote feel, but it is only a short drive to Helston and much of south and western Cornwall is within easy reach. There are lots of footpaths both inland and coastal, and the Coastal Path at Poldhu is close by. The beaches of Poldhu – a mile away, and Church/ Dollar Cove, and the beach Church at Gunwallow (it’s a Medieval Church -Poldark and Doc Martin film there) are close. The Lizard is England's most southerly point. The Lizard point is famous for shipwrecks and the area highlights include early Spring flowers –including beautiful yellow daffodils everywhere, the Lizard Lighthouse, swimming and surfing from many sandy beaches, and delightful fishing coves. At the heart of the Lizard village stands a 13th century church, famous for it’s ornate woodwork decorating the end of the each pew and depicting scenes from the Old and New Testament. Outside in the water, two, thick sea walls, built in the late 19th century, protect the harbour from the worst of the wind. Local fisherman still work in the harbour to land fabulous fresh seafood, some of which is then served in the local pubs and restaurants.

There is sailing at Falmouth or on the beautiful Helford river and it also has picturesque village and lovely pub with the ferry across to Trebah Gardens, and Frenchman’s Creek (Daphne du Maurier- ‘Rebecca’). There are heather covered moors unique to the area with autumn also a great time of year to visit and many open gardens and National Trust areas, pretty harbour lights at Christmas, friendly pubs and good, fresh, local food (several restaurants are Michelin recommended)! There are loads more places to visit on the Lizard and highlights include walks along the coastal path and cliffs, the famous Victorian holiday destination of Kynance Cove with the beautiful rare Serpentine rocks and cafe, a visit to Trelowarren Estate, and the fascinating Goonhilly Earth Station and its Segway course. Flambards is great for the kids and you can step into Cornwall's mining heritage at the Poldark Mine.

Mullion is the largest village situated on the Lizard Peninsula and boasts a number of quality pubs, cafes and restaurants among it's various attractions. Four beaches – the towering cliffs of Mullion Cove- a fishing harbour, Poldhu Cove with café (and Marconi Centre), isolated Polhurrian Cove and amazing Church Cove - are conveniently nearby and easy access to the South West Coastal Path offers visitors the chance to explore the beautiful surrounding cliff scenery. The coastal path goes to the miles of sand at Loe Bar and Pool (Cornwall’s largest lake and wildlife haven) and on to the Penrose parkland.

?There are so many activities to choose from locally. You can take a boat trip across the beautiful Helford River and explore the gardens at Trebah. There are sea fishing trips from Porthleven and beach fishing from Loe Bar. There is great diving on the Manacles from Porthkerris and coasteering is available for the really adventurous. The Lizard is home to the Cornish Chough if you like a spot of bird-watching. The coastline has many pretty coves and beaches to discover, but you can find great surf at Porthleven and Poldhu. Canoeing and bard surfing are popular on the protected Eastern shores

We loved this place

We booked this holiday earlier in the year, anticipating the completed finish of these converted barns. They have been done to such a high standard and the views from the open plan kitchen/ diner weA?re amazing. Plenty of space for our dog to play, and only a short distance to mullion village. To finish off with a glass of bubbly in the hot tub was brilliant. If you are looking to escape and want a vacation that ticks all your boxes, then this is the place to go.

Wonderful Week

Pol Glas Hall is in a lovely location with a short drive to beaches and pubs in Mullion one way and shops and amenities in Helston the other, and with stunning views from the rear of the property. The garden itself is large and open to give the impression that it runs straight on to the landscape beyond, and the fantastic hot tub gives a extra special vantage point to enjoy the view. The barn is arranged upside-down style so the view can be enjoyed from the many windows and the balcony. The decor is subtle and tasteful with comfy sofas and firm beds, two stunning bathrooms and a very well provided for kitchen with a do-it-all fridge freezer and a very impressive oven (its worth cooking there just to play with it!). Tea, coffee (instant and ground for the coffee machine), sugar, milk, wine, and some delicious Cornish shortbread biscuits were waiting for us when we arrived - thank you! We had a really great week there, happy to stay in and enjoy the place or make a short trip to almost anywhere in south Cornwall. We managed to do the Lizard, Penzance, Lands End, and St Ives all in one day! I would recommend to any and all, but dog owners should be aware of the open gardens and consider bringing a tether of some kind.

Pol Glas stay

Having visited Cornwall several times before this location surpasses all previous accommodations. The panaramic view around the location is nothing short of spectacular. A profound amount of thought and consideration has gone into making this property a comfortable and luxurious stay for holiday makers. Already looking to book again next year.
