Property Location

The Lizard has been designated an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ as it justifiably deserves. It’s teeming with diverse wildlife and beautiful coves, stunning cliff paths, sandy beaches, fishing villages and spectacular scenery. The Nanfan Barn cottages are perfectly set up by the Owners to ensure a relaxing, tranquil holiday in spacious accommodation and superb views. It has a remote feel, but it is only a short drive to Helston and much of south and western Cornwall is within easy reach. There are lots of footpaths both inland and coastal, and the Coastal Path at Poldhu is close by. The beaches of Poldhu – a mile away, and Church/ Dollar Cove, and the beach Church at Gunwallow (it’s a Medieval Church -Poldark and Doc Martin film there) are close. The Lizard is England's most southerly point. The Lizard point is famous for shipwrecks and the area highlights include early Spring flowers –including beautiful yellow daffodils everywhere, the Lizard Lighthouse, swimming and surfing from many sandy beaches, and delightful fishing coves. At the heart of the Lizard village stands a 13th century church, famous for it’s ornate woodwork decorating the end of the each pew and depicting scenes from the Old and New Testament. Outside in the water, two, thick sea walls, built in the late 19th century, protect the harbour from the worst of the wind. Local fisherman still work in the harbour to land fabulous fresh seafood, some of which is then served in the local pubs and restaurants.

There is sailing at Falmouth or on the beautiful Helford river and it also has picturesque village and lovely pub with the ferry across to Trebah Gardens, and Frenchman’s Creek (Daphne du Maurier- ‘Rebecca’). There are heather covered moors unique to the area with autumn also a great time of year to visit and many open gardens and National Trust areas, pretty harbour lights at Christmas, friendly pubs and good, fresh, local food (several restaurants are Michelin recommended)! There are loads more places to visit on the Lizard and highlights include walks along the coastal path and cliffs, the famous Victorian holiday destination of Kynance Cove with the beautiful rare Serpentine rocks and cafe, a visit to Trelowarren Estate, and the fascinating Goonhilly Earth Station and its Segway course. Flambards is great for the kids and you can step into Cornwall's mining heritage at the Poldark Mine.

Mullion is the largest village situated on the Lizard Peninsula and boasts a number of quality pubs, cafes and restaurants among it's various attractions. Four beaches – the towering cliffs of Mullion Cove- a fishing harbour, Poldhu Cove with café (and Marconi Centre), isolated Polhurrian Cove and amazing Church Cove - are conveniently nearby and easy access to the South West Coastal Path offers visitors the chance to explore the beautiful surrounding cliff scenery. The coastal path goes to the miles of sand at Loe Bar and Pool (Cornwall’s largest lake and wildlife haven) and on to the Penrose parkland.

?There are so many activities to choose from locally. You can take a boat trip across the beautiful Helford River and explore the gardens at Trebah. There are sea fishing trips from Porthleven and beach fishing from Loe Bar. There is great diving on the Manacles from Porthkerris and coasteering is available for the really adventurous. The Lizard is home to the Cornish Chough if you like a spot of bird-watching. The coastline has many pretty coves and beaches to discover, but you can find great surf at Porthleven and Poldhu. Canoeing and bard surfing are popular on the protected Eastern shores

Fantastic stay near the Cornish coast

Mulvin Lodge was excellently maintained and had all we needed for an enjoyable holiday. Within walking distance of Poldhu Cove and a number of other RNLI manned beaches, with a great surf school as well (Dan Joel recommended). Would definitely stay again. Thank you

First class accommodation

Mulvin Lodge is perfect in every respect. John, the owner, has gone the extra mile to ensure you have every provision to make your stay in Cornwall a really special one. Nothing has been overlooked, and this apartment really is a luxurious home-from-home experience, where you will want for nothing. From the modern fully-equipped kitchen, the wireless sound system and enormous TV with BluRay player, the most comfortable beds, ensuite bedrooms with luxury showers, and a private hot tub to relax in at the end of the day with the most glorious views over the open countryside towards the sea, you will want for nothing. John is also a really lovely bloke who will be able to give you first hand advice about what to do and where to go. Close by, there's a CoOp, a Tesco, and fish and chips in Mullion about 10 minutes drive away, and Poldhu beach is even closer at hand with an adjacent car park. There are plenty of lovely places to visit further afield, and for eating out I can particularly recommend the Harbour Inn which overlooks the harbour at Porthleven (about 15 to 20 minutes drive), where we had some of the best food and drinks ever. In short, this is one of the most perfect locations we've ever stayed at, and I would recommend Mulvin Lodge very highly indeed.

An amazing place!

This has to be the best place weA?ve stayed! After a pretty hellish year for the family we needed a break away to relax, and Mulvin Lodge was just fantastic for that. The views across the hills towards the little glimpse of sea (Poldhu Cove) were just beautiful, especially when using the hot tub! Inside was just as beautiful. We really enjoyed the personal touches of the owner, John - who was on site when we stayed, and he was very welcoming and helpful. There were a variety of leaflets and information about the local area, along with instructions on how to use the electricals etc. The bedrooms all had their own bathrooms with fantastic showers, and one had the roll top bath. The bedrooms were good sizes and the beds were like sleeping on clouds! You are on the outskirts of a little village staying here, so will have to drive to most places, unless you enjoy walking, in which case it wouldnA?t take long to walk to Poldhu Cove or Mullion. John has provided OS maps for this. Although to be honest, the 6 of us, could have quite happily lounged around the cottage all day! We had a brilliant stay and really didnA?t want to leave! After our first night, we all agreed we will be staying again next year!
