Withiel is situated about 5 miles from Wadebridge and 15 miles from both Newquay and Padstow. The Atlantic Coast of Cornwall offers some of the most picturesque and breathtaking scenery in the country with golden sandy beaches at 25 locations within 20 miles from Mill Cottage; these include Crantock, Fistral, Perranporth, Polzeath and Watergate Bay. Most of these are patrolled by RNLI lifeguards during the summer season. The coastal footpath delivers some stunning walks and incredible views through this dramatic section of coastline. Hustyns, the luxury spa and resort centre, is only 10 minutes away by car and offers day passes to the gym and swimming pool as well as a variety of beauty and spa treatments. There is also a first class restaurant. The golf courses of St Enodoc and Trevose are within easy reach.

These days Newquay's excellent surfing waters are the town's main industry, whereas it once used to be a major export port for the county's mining efforts as well as a north coast port for pilchard fisheries. Fistral Beach holds many surfing competitions throughout the year, and also hosts Run to the Sun over May Bank holiday, a VW and Custom Car Show. Both the Women's and Men's Gig Championships are held here, as is a balloon festival and surf and lifesaving events. Newquay Zoo now houses 130 different species in sub tropical gardens in the centre of the town.

Neighbouring Watergate Bay and The Extreme Academy offers you a 'ski resort on a beach' and a plethora of activities to keep even the most active occupied. Fifteen Cornwall, founded by Jamie Oliver in 2002, sits on top of the two mile beach at Watergate offering inspirational views for the young chefs and professionals to create fantastic menus from local and seasonal produce. The Lappa Valley Steam Railway just outside Newquay offers both the old and young an interesting day out. Newquay Airport has made the north coast one of the easiest places in Cornwall to get to, with regular flights from various locations across the UK. The town also has an Aquarium, a Waterworld and numerous immensely pretty beaches for the less active. Trerice, run by the National Trust and 3 miles outside of the town, is an Elizabethan manor house and garden with restricted winter opening times.

Wadebridge, once a market town, is now more widely known as being part of The Camel Trail, the cycle route out to Padstow from the depths of Bodmin Moor on the old tramway route. You can hire a bike at the start of the trail and cycle to Padstow, now famous for being home to Rick Stein's The Seafood Restaurant, amongst others which the celebrity chef owns in the town. From Padstow you could take a boat trip across the Camel Estuary to Rock and lounge on the beautiful beach that stretches all the way around to Daymer Bay. The National Lobster Hatchery neighbours Rick Stein's empire in Padstow.

The Royal Cornwall Show ground at Wadebridge hosts the county show every June, come rain or shine, and is opened each year by a member of the Royal Family. Cornish farmers have had to diversify in recent years and so has the Show, but they have kept their traditional roots with steam engines being shown next to the shiny new high-tech tractors. It's not every day you get to see formation JCB digger dancing in the main ring. The National Trust have three properties nearby - Lanhydrock House, Trerice and Carnewas & Bedruthan Steps. Slightly further afield is the Eden Project in St Austell, famously built in a disused china clay pit.

Mill Cottage

Location of Mill Cottage - great. Easy to visit many areas of Cornwall being in such a central location. A pretty courtyard setting, surrounded by a wooded location. Inside the cottage, a little more attention to cleanliness could be given, my husband had to wash a few pots and frying pan before he could use them. Lounge area was very comfortable and relaxing. Sadly, I could not get comfortable in the bed (may be comfortable for others), therefore had little sleep for a week. Garden lovely, lots of space for our dog to run around, safely enclosed. Very natural and peaceful. Some noise from neighbouring farm, but nothing outrageous and all part of country life. All in all a nice cottage, in a great location for getting around Cornwall.

Mill Corner

We really enjoyed our stay at Mill Corner. The layout was perfect for our needs as a family. Enjoyed that the kitchen and living area were part of the same room. The location was perfect for both the south and North Cornish coast. The best place we've ever stayed. Thank you.

Cornwall in september

Our first visit to Cornwall in over 30 years and very much enjoyed our stay at Thyme Cottage. Comfortable and spacious and lovely location. Good dog walking country as well. Also conveniently located in central Cornwall. We took the opportunity to visit places on the South and North Cornish coast. All within an hours drive and only 15 mins if you go towards Padstow and Rock.

Perfect Getaway

This is a lovely cottage that is grouped with a series of other cottages around a common courtyard and graased area. There is a lovely sized back garden with seating and barbecue (with all the charcoal etc supplied). Inside the cottage is on two floors with the main living area on the upper floor with one of the bedrooms and a bedroom on the lower floor that opens out on to the garden both bedrooms have an en-suite bathroom. It is obvious the owner has paid attention to every small detail that makes you instantly feel at home, the kitchen is well equipped no need to even bring some washing up liquid or dishwasher cubes. The cottage is pet friendly with a very reasonable code of conduct for your stay. An open fire will keep you warm on cooler evenings. In terms of location the cottage is very central to visit St Austell (Eden Project), Padstow, Port Issac are all nearby. Wadebridge is the nearest village which has bike hire for the Camel cycle trial and also has a couple of supermarkets for your groceries. I would not hesitate in recommending Mill Cottage for a wonderful holiday in Cornwall
