Lower Tamsquite is situated 1/2 a mile from St Tudy a quaint Cornish village, The church around which the village was built was first constructed in the 6th century and then rebuilt in the 11th, 15th and latterly 19th centuries, the village has been built around the original Celtic circular raised graveyard - known locally as "God's Acre!" St Tudy is believed to be the birthplace of Captain Bligh of the "Mutiny on the Bounty" fame! The St Tudy Inn (formerly the Cornish Armms) will welcome you in for a refreshing drink, a hearty meal or both!
Bodmin Moor is a couple of miles away to the East and is dominated by large granite tors which tower over sweeping expanses of moorland. Bodmin Moor has engendered fear and awe throughout history and hence provided inspiration for writers, poets and sculptors. Standing stones, burial chambers, clapper bridges cottages and farms across the moor give a hint of the 4000 years of human developement ever since Bronze age farmers first arrived.
Port Isaac is about 6 miles to the North West and this has recently been the base of filming for "Doc Martin" with Martin Clunes, there are a good selection of cafes shops and pubs. Further up the coast there are all of the golden beaches and coves between Polzeath and Tintagel with some of the best surf in Europe.
Bodmin lies a few miles to South West and has a large selection of supermarkets, shops and restaurants.

The cottage is lovely and very cosy. The welcome we received from Ken and Val was very friendly. Lovely people.

In the many years in which we have gone on self-catering holidays, this was the best property that we have ever stayed in. We cannot recall any previous one which was so well-equipped, which when added to the cosy and comfortable nature of the property, made for a great stay. It was also the most 'homely' property we have ever stayed in, a world away from the often minimalistic holiday properties that don't hit the mark in the way this one did. Truly excellent!

A beautiful cottage with a stunning garden. Very well equipped, comfortable and spotlessly clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our fortnight relaxing in the garden, with plenty of space to walk our lively cocker spaniel. The cottage was perfectly located for seeing Cornwall. Ken and Val were most helpful and accommodating. We have had many cottage holidays and would say that Lower Tamsquite was one of the best we have stayed in. A home from home!

Our stay at Lower Tamsquiet was perfect. The cottage is nestled in the Cornish rolling country side just outside the smalk village of St Tudy and a 20.minute drive from the North Cornish coast. The cottage is very clean and comfortable with 3 good sized bedrooms with good quality bedding and 2 spacious bathrooms. The kitchen was large and well stocked with a brand new oven and larhe fridge. In the sitting room we enjoyed a cosy log burner a very comfortable sofas. The gardens were especially lovely. Very well maintained with lots of spave for our children and dog to run around. We only stayed for 3 nights but wished it had been longer. We will definitely be going back. A lovely cottage in a stunning part of Cornwall with so many beaches to visit and things to do. Loved the Camel bike trail. Would higly recommend Lower Tamsquiet cottage.

We have stayed in a lot of holiday cottages over the years but none more immaculately kept than this one. Everything about it was perfect, including the owners who could not have been more helpful. The cottage is warm and cosy and everything is provided for a wonderful holiday, even things you didn't think of yourself! Could not recommend this cottage more highly and we will definitely be returning - one week is certainly not enough!

My wife and myself stayed at Lower Tamsquite from 23rd September to 30th September accompanied by our aging springer spaniel. We have holidayed before with Sasha and frankly she has hated mostly every minute of the time away from home. She did however settle into this cottage almost straight away - the grounds are extensive surrounding the cottage and perfect for "man's best friend" to wander around and the internal room was "cottagey" but spacious so she loved staying there I have to be honest and say because we did not follow Val and Ken's (the owners) advice on how to find the cottage we did get rather snarled up in the ongoing extensive road works along the A30 leading into Bodmin and the crazy road closures in Bodmin itself at the time of our visit. we rang Ken and Val and Val came to our rescue - I have to say what a lovely welcoming couple they are The cottage is just beautiful and although a little off the beaten track the area is easy enough to navigate once you have found your way there. It is very well equipped, cosy and spotlessly clean and the peace and quiet was such a tonic even the dog went home totally rejuvenated Another bonus for us was that it was quite centrally located for exploring the beautiful peninsular of cornwall Thank you Ken and Val we had a wonderful time

Fantastic cottage, beautiful tranquil location with stunning gardens. Very welcoming hosts. Excellently equipped cottage. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough & can't wait to go back
Guest from Stoke-on-trent stayed for 7 nights.
We arrived early having decided to find the cottage then go and shop for food etc., but the owners, Ken and Val immediately invited us in and made us welcome. This old cottage is set in extensive gardens along with the owners own house and nowhere was out of bounds. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortably furnished. We have never seen a place with so many indoor games to play to keep children amused when they can't go outside. The surrounding area is a beautiful part of Cornwall with many places to visit. A very pleasant holiday.

We have just come back from our holiday. It was a lovely cottage and val and Ken made us feel very welcome. The house and grounds are amazing. Lots of information in the folder as to where to go etc, which made it easier to go out for day somewhere. Lower tamsquite is a really good base for exploring Cornwall as you are in the middle.. Only 20 min drive to beaches. And 30 mins to Newquay. Lovely walks with the dogs down camel trail which is only 10 mins drive.. Wished we had stayed abit longer as there is so much to see.. Would love to stay again maybe for longer (2 wks) thank you for our holiday val and Ken x

This cottage is real 1st class. We were a group of four people and all felt very well. Winter garden and sitting places in the green are very fine and the house is well equipped with everything. Never had a better cottage in UK.

Lower Tamsquite, gave us the perfect base from which to explore Cornwall. Quiet and peaceful, lovely gardens, comfortable and clean, A very well equipped kitchen which we didn't make much use off as we found plenty of places to eat out near bye. The owners Ken and Val were very friendly and gave the impression nothing would have been too much trouble. We had no need to seek there help as everything in the cottage worked as it should. This gave us the most relaxing trouble free holiday, when we return to Cornwall we will seek to stay there again. I can't recommend it highly enough excellent.
Guest from Liverpool stayed for 7 nights.
Was lovely Val and Ken where very welcoming house was cosy and had everything we needed. Would definitely consider staying again. Not far from beaches. Would reccomend having a car if you considered staying!
Guest from Kirkby In Ashfield stayed for 7 nights.
Had a wonderful stay here, the cottage is gorgeous and so are the gardens, the couple that own it were really friendly and happy to help. You won't be able to get any phone signal and you need to be happy to drive everywhere as its fairly out in the sticks but it was lovely as it means you spend more time together rather than sitting around texting etc. I found the beds to be a little too hard but I was the only one of the 5 of us that had an issue with them so its probably just me. If you don't mind the lack of phone signal (although there was a landline available) then this is perfect for your holiday day!

You can never be totally sure what you're going to get when you book online but when we arrived at the cottage our expectations were exceeded. The holiday cottage is set in around 5 acres of beautiful gardens and there is a small stream running along the border of the property. It is set in a remote wooded area, a mile or so from the village of St Tudy and it is in easy travelling distance from Bodmin and Wadebridge. The cottage itself appears small and cosy yet was large enough to accommodate our party of six (five adults and a baby) with ease. The living room was great for cosy nights in, with the log burner providing more than enough warmth to fuel an evening of Scrabble. And, having an Aga in the kitchen meant that we could cook up a hearty evening meal when we weren't eating takeaways from the Chinese or Indian restaurants in Bodmin. We spent a fair amount of time in the cottage itself during our holiday although we ventured out several times to the beach and to other attractions nearby and it was a really nice place to be! Whether it was lounging in the garden in the sunshine or reading in the conservatory when the inevitable English weather made its presence felt. It was also good to be able to dip into the under-the-stairs board game emporium with its fine selection of chess, draughts, Trivial Pursuits, the afore mentioned Scrabble and countless other pass-the-time favourites. The bedrooms were comfortable and the bathrooms clean. In fact everything about the cottage was a delight. Our hosts were helpful, polite and friendly. They went out of their way to provide us with things such as a replacement microwave when the one in the cottage broke and they were on hand to offer suggestions as to what to see and do in the area. We took our dog with us and there is a small field where we could walk him or rather let him walk himself as he attempted to catch the rabbits! In summary we had a fantastic week in the cottage and would heartily recommend it to anyone who would wish to enjoy a quiet, peaceful stay in Cornwall. A perfect place to get away from it all!

We book 4/5 times a year Pet Friendly cottages and we have to say that this cottage & the owners were excellent, the cottage is so very comfortable and well equipped, everything is top quality and much thought has gone into providing a 5 star stay by the lovely owners, who are such a genuinely helpful and friendly couple. Lots of local information and guidance as to local amenities etc. We normally don't go back to the same place twice as we like to explore different areas but this cottage and area really are special & we may book for the spring. We had lovely weather most days but on the couple of days that were cold and damp it was lovely just to 'chill out' in this 'home from home'. We cannot praise this enough & will recommend to friends and family. The garden is huge by the way & a lovely stream runs at the bottom of the hill. One thing we mentioned to owners that the website in general (including theirs) does not give prospective guests enough information about the accommodation and the inventory i.e. we wouldn't have needed to bring quite a few things had we known Val and Ken had supplied almost everything one would need. Had a wonderful time and many thanks to Val and Ken and Cornwalls Cottages too. ' 5 star +' to Lower Tamsquite in all aspects! PS We are not always so glowing with reports, believe me, we have had some ' minus 2 ' cottages too ! By the way, the local village & Inn in St Tudy is so pretty and such friendly people too. Great food!!!
