Property Location

Seaton is a picturesque village and beach, situated at the mouth of the the river Seaton, 3 miles east of Looe and 10 miles west of Plymouth, the river flows down the valley from Hessenford through a pretty wooded valley. Seaton beach is mainly sand and shingle and extends 1 mile east to the small resort of Downderry. Seaton itself has a number of pubs, cafes and restaurants. Immediately to the north of the village is the Seaton Valley Countryside Park, one of only four country parks in Cornwall. The park occupies fifty four hectares of a once-derelict caravan site and is home to a sensory garden, numerous cycleways and footpaths and the first nature reserve in Cornwall to receive a green flag (the green space equivalent of the blue flag used for beaches). The nature reserve is home to Otters, Kingfishers and Fritillary Butterflies and includes a nature trail that can be followed for nearly two miles, to Hessenford.

Local grocery shops can be found at Downderry stores, 0.8 miles, or Tredinnick Farm Stores outside Hessenford, 2.5 miles, who will deliver via foof4myholiday.com or major supermarkets can be found at Liskeard or Plymouth.

Looe is a very popular fishing village in South East Cornwall, split by the River Looe into East & West Looe. East Looe is a little busier with the harbour, fish quays and main shopping centre. West Looe is joined by a very pretty seven arched bridge and is quieter but still has a few shops and restaurants. From Hannafore Beach in West Looe you can view the banjo pier as well as Looe Island, which is open to day visitors during the summer. The railway line servicing the fish quays still runs and is a great way to enter the village from Liskeard.

Polperro is just south of Looe and is a much smaller fishing port with many of the streets impassable to vehicles. As with many of the smaller ports on the south coast, their heritage is in smuggling and a museum in the village depicts this. Pilchards were the main source of legitimate income for the village, as well as boat building and at high tide fishing boats still work from the harbour. Talland Bay, situated between Looe & Polperro, has been made popular by Richard & Judy Madeley on TV.

A lovely view!

You can not dispute that this property is in a lovely position. We found it to be spacious and well stocked with everything you required. However, we felt the general condition of the house needs updating, freshening up, inside and out. Some areas need painting, especially skirting boards that look as though there is no paint on them. The couches are rather worn and uncomfortable, staining on the pillows, duvets, and mattress cover. We also felt that the shrubs in the garden were overgrown, if cut back the view would be even better, especially from the lower terrace. Also, the cleanliness was an issue. On first glance it seemed ok, but after a closer look the bathroom sink plugs had hair in them. The skirting boards, window fills, TV and stands were very dusty. The inside of the oven, the bottom was not clean. The first night we wanted to cook a pizza, it was smoking badly because of this. So, disappointing really!!

Better than we thought

To be honest we were a little apprehensive about this property after reading some of the reviews, but I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. No it's not the most modern of houses but it was comfy. We couldn't fault the cleanliness, everywhere was clean and tidy when we arrived. The kitchen had everything we needed and more which was great. The garden was ok although could do with a bit of trimming back, you were unable to see the bottom of the garden from the balcony which I'm sure if you took children would be an advantage. Obviously the view is what makes this property and what a view it is. We had wonderful weather and to sit on the balcony eating (yes there is now seating and couple of small tables) or reading, and watching the ships go by was great. All in all we had a lovely time and the place was great, a good base to explore further a field.

Great location, enjoyable stay

A relaxed week, given the location it was sometimes a difficult choice on whether to stay in and enjoy the views or go out and explore the local attractions. Would book again.

3rd stay in 2yrs bring on 4th

We have never been disappointed with this property even though this was our third visit it is still wonderful to get in the sitting room and take in the view. There has been a few upgrades since our last visit including new carpets throughout and a new double bed in the bedroom that show the owners read the reviews and act on the reviewers comments making this property even better. We once again were lucky with the weather for this time of year and the dogs love the beach, which you pretty much have to yourself. We will be booking for trip 4 here in September very soon :-)

Decent property in a great location, badly let down by poor preparation

As veterans of renting dog-friendly seafront holiday homes of this kind around the country, the undeniably excellent outlook of this property was insufficient to overcome our disappointment resulting from poor standards of cleanliness. Waiting right behind the front door to greet us on our arrival was the vacuum cleaner and a broom! Quite prophetic as it turned out! A pair of someones trousers hung from the hook of a coat hanger. A sticky kitchen floor, grubby kitchenware, crumbs on the worktops, in the fridge and drawers, sand under the lounge seat cushions, a bath which looked like someone had washed their dog in it, dead flies on window ledges, etc, etc, meant the first 90 minutes of our holiday consisted of a full-on cleaning session to get the place into a state we felt comfortable to live in. We've NEVER had to do this before. The "welcome pack" consisting of UHT milk and a pack of economy biscuits meant a half decent cuppa to refresh us after our efforts and 7.5 hour journey was out of the question. Lack of a simple pint of fresh milk on arrival becomes an issue when there's no shop within reasonable distance, and speaks of penny pinching. An inadequate allocation of 5 dishwasher tablets for the week further underlined that "stingy" impression. Eventually to bed, and 2 single beds pushed together is something we've never had to endure before and is another serious shortcoming for a property at this price point. A gap of no more than 40-50cm on the window side of the bed makes for difficulty for one of its occupants. Thankfully there were no issues around bedding cleanliness. The garden at this property is unquestionably the best we've ever rented. Large and interesting with choices of paths leading to unseen destinations, and marvellous views awaiting at the bottom on a sunny day. That was truly great. The lengthy driveway is a rare luxury in our experience, though the essential turning space is tight and requires a multi point turn for all but the smallest vehicle. The temperature inside the property was easily controllable, and we remained pleasantly warm throughout our stay. Easy chairs were reasonably comfortable, though the low backs will be a problem for some. The granite worktops are luxurious and no doubt expensive, but when covered in someone else's crumbs that doesn't count for much! Afraid we'll remember this property for all the wrong reasons.

From the Owner:
We are sorry that the house was not clean; this is not acceptable. The twin beds are being replaced in a fortnight with a double bed with one mattress. I am glad you enjoyed the rest of your stay and the garden.

Second visit

Thank you again for allowing us to rent your amazing house. The view was as beautiful as we remembered when we were last here in April. The weather has been kind to us again and we only had one day that was wet and misty (not that this mattered !). The fact that we saw a school of dolphins whilst walking the dogs on the beach more than made up for it.The house felt as welcoming as before and immediately felt like home, just with a much better view :-).Our two dogs couldn't wait to get on the beach again! The only small niggle I had was my husband moaning about the two single beds in the master en suite bedroom , giving me ear ache about the ridge in the middle :-( The week has gone too fast as usual ,but we have already booked to return for a third time March 2019. The Little Watch house is truly a magical place as it has managed to relax two very stressed city souls and make them stop, look around and breathe !!!! Thank You All the Best The Ashtons

Great location, very dated interior

The house is at a great location with a beautiful garden and has lovely views out onto the sea. A shame there was no patio or garden furniture. We had to use some of the chairs from inside the house to use in the garden. Not very comfortable as sun loungers. On the balcony upstairs we used a card table found in the cupboard downstairs to use as breakfast table outside (luckily we had some good weather). Because we used 2 bedrooms (one of us snores) it was not seen as low occupancy so we did not get the discount we normally get (athough strictly speaking it was still low occupancy: just the two of us). For that amount of extra money (more than AGBP 100) we expected at least a change of towels and bedlinnen after a week. Instead we had to wash the bath and kitchen towels and bedlinnen ourselves to get some clean ones. The queesize bed downstairs was very good with a great mattress. The twinbeds upstairs (master bedroom) were terrible, like sleeping in a hammock. I had to put some planks I found in a cupboard, under the mattrass to at least find some comfort. All in all a house at a great location but with a very dated interior and missing the necessities to enjoy that location. Photo's on the site are obviously taken with a wide angle lens because everything is smaller in reality. This could be so great; Spent some money to update the interior, buy some garden funiture and some good beds for the master bedroom and take honest photo's for the site and you have a winner. Now it was a disappointment.

Very good

This house grew on us during our week there, but the location and aspect felt outstanding right away - the position up on the cliff with 180Ao views, the privacy and the small but fabulous tiered garden. It's a great place to stay, and the local area is full of interesting walks. Our dog loved the garden and wanted to play hide and seek with us all the time, and she also enjoyed the many varied walks straight from the door. The owners provide very good straightforward local information, including local OS maps. Minor suggestions: it would be a good idea to simplify the key labelling for the various doors and windows, and the garage could very easily be made useable for guests with a tidy up.

A truly wonderful beach side property

We have spent many years renting beach cottages in Cornwall and this property is probably the best we have stayed in for all round holiday enjoyment. The views from nearly every room are breathtaking when you look out to sea across the beautifully maintained mature gardens, the house is very welcoming and comfortable and comes equipped with everything you could possibly need, and more.Access to the beach is 2mins walk and the dogs loved this place as much as we did. There are plenty of options to eat down at the beach if you choose or Looe is only 10-15min drive for superb fresh seafood or the best pasties. We were very lucky to have exceptionally good weather in April and felt so relaxed here. We have already booked again for September. Counting down!! Annie,Phil and the beasts Marnie & Bella.

has great views

good location, has great views, quiet, nice garden, would be nice for two front door keys, so if someone goes out early in the morning, theres a key at the property for people still inside to use the front door, other wise its a case of going out through the patio doors and then leaving the property with the patio doors unlocked, this is a minor issue, i think it would be beneficial to future people using the accommodation.

From the Owner:
Thank you for your comments and I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We have now put an extra key in the property.

Lovely property with fantastic views whatever the weather

Fantastic views, having read a previous comment by a honeymooners I agree with their comments, also a novel feature was no obvious clocks which helped with our relaxation, We cannot wait to return. Points to note were no visitors book to leave comments and help other guests (although we left some comments/advice). We found the Smugglers Inn at the bottom of the hill very suitable for our appetites and within walking distance although at night a torch was essential (one available at the property) but used our own LED ones and an idea may be to keep 1 or 2 small rechargeable ones at the property? The drive is ideal but if you drive in it is best to reverse out with care , we had no problems but turning within the drive for a small SUV was about a six point turn, you could also when returning reverse in. All in all a very enjoyable cosy property and as I said previously we cannot wait to return early in 2018.

Honeymoon

We had a lovely honeymoon at Little Watch House. We were looking for somewhere pet friendly to take our recently rescued dog away with us and Little Watch House fit the bill. The proximity to the beach is brilliant for long runs and a splash around. Our dog loved the garden and exploring the different routes he could take to the lawn area. The house itself is ideal. It has pretty much everything you could need whilst away and anything you don't have can be found within a 20 minute drive. What we loved most was feeling so relaxed at the house and taking in the wonderful view. The beds were incredibly comfortable and large. The only change I would make is to put the larger furniture with the television or perhaps another television in the downstairs lounge. I appreciate that not everyone wants to watch tv on holiday but it is nice to have the option to sit together without having to sit on a 2 seater. All in all - we had a great time....lots of walks - eating out - playing games and we have to say the people in Cornwall are the friendliest we have come across! We can't thank you enough for such a great time.
