James is a lovely place to stay
Reviewed on 22/06/2022ItA?s always a pleasure to stay at James but especially so at this time of year, with the long warm summer evenings enabling us to sit in the garden and enjoy the trees and the plants and the silence (except for the birds), and in the mornings visit the friendly Herdwicks.

Lovely cottage and location
Reviewed on 13/10/2021James is a lovely cottage in a very special and beautiful location. It's quiet and there's no light pollution at night. Love visiting the sheep (especially) and the pigs and the turkeys, and generally wandering around the grounds. It's also nice sitting in the garden attached to James Cottage. Highly recommended if you are looking for somewhere peaceful where you can relax, and it's very well located for exploring the Lizard. There's lots to do locally so no need to drive far.

A very special place! A cut above the rest...
Reviewed on 05/09/2021We have stayed in plenty of holiday cottages (and we are not snobby - we had a great time in a converted pigs hut a few years ago!)...but James Cottage is definitely a cut above your average holiday cottage. Just little details like the blinds, the very comfy bedding, the kitchen, comfy sofas, nice towels....basically it was all wonderfully kitted out with nice quality details. Even the driveway to the cottage is rather magical as it leads to the 2 cottages (and the main house where the owners live) - and also there is access to a couple of fields (one with a fire pit and great view of the stars)...a little woodland area and lots more. The owners were very kind, welcoming and super helpful. You can even get involved in feeding the sheep if you ask nicely! You can tell a lot of love and care have gone into making the place beautiful, magical and special. We had a wonderful holiday - and it's a great place to explore the lizard and all the wonderful beaches, coves and views that it has to offer. Thanks so much for having us. Tip-top!

Lovely peaceful, rural setting
Reviewed on 09/06/2021WeA?ve stayed at James Cottage five or six times and we come back because we love the setting (rural, peaceful); being able to visit the ewes and lambs, the pigs, and the turkeys; and the location - perfect for visiting Coverack and loads of other wonderful places for walks. Simon is extremely knowledgable and happy to share information about the locality and all the goings on with his livestock. The cottage has a private garden and there several other places to sit with a cuppa or other kind of beverage to drink in the beautiful grounds and enjoy the sun. If itA?s wet outside, the stable door can be opened so you can sit indoors and listen to the birds and the wind in the trees.

Cosy Cottage
Reviewed on 05/09/2019James cottage is a cosy little cottage in a beautiful, quiet location on the Lizard. It is a little of the beaten track but just what we were looking for. Great dog friendly location although unless your more intrepid than me a long walk with your furry friend is more difficult but definitely enough space around the cottage to blow off a little steam before a day out. Just a note: James cottage does not have a fenced off garden area but with such a rural location it was not a problem as our dog is not a wanderer. Hosts are very friendly and Simon put a smile on our boys faces by allowing them to go on the quad bike. No mean feat with a grumpy teen to please! Lots of animals to greet you each day including 3 lovely goldies. Cottage was well equipped and a lovely little package of goodies when we arrived. 3 bedrooms with the smaller bed being adequate for our 12yr old so not so small as anticipated. We used the twin downstairs allowing our teen the double (too small for us but as it's a small room can see a king would not fit). Comfy sofas, Wifi a bit hit and miss but we didn't go so the kids could spend all day glued to a screen. Communal laundry but accessed through the other cottages garden, on occasion felt like I was intruding on their space. Good for drying those soggy towels though. All in all we really enjoyed our stay at James cottage and the Lizard peninsula.

Can't recommend enough
Reviewed on 11/08/2019We had such a great time. The owners were lovely and super helpful, and v welcoming of our toddler. It was much more child friendly than we were expecting. The animals on the farm and play room with games were a bonus. The cottage itself was really well equipped, especially the kitchen. It's also a total haven - no road noise and beautiful surroundings.

A little piece of tranquility
Reviewed on 02/10/2016James Cottage is a beautiful converted barn cottage within easy access of beaches and tourist destinations. It is in a wonderful hamlet which is peaceful and a great place to chill and relax. There are plenty of wildlife, including bats and owls to keep you company and lovely to hear in the evenings when you can sit outside in the secluded garden. There are pubs and restaurants in the area that are very dog and family friendly providing fantastic foods for you to sample, especially the Halzephron Inn at Gunwalloe and the Shipwrights Inn at Helford. Simon and his wife provide a friendly welcome and the dogs are well catered for with a plethora of walks in the area. A welcome pack awaits your arrival with lots of tasty goodies and the essentials for the start of your holiday. The three bedrooms are tastfully furnished and the beds are very comfortable. If you like to look good, don't forget to pack a hairdryer as there is not one there. Simon is on hand to help if you need anything or if you want any advice. I would recommend James Cottage to anyone wanting to escape from it all and feel sure I will be back again very soon.

A Wonderful Week in James' Cottage

(Image not shown on the web page) Simon the owner was great and will be always on hand if you required him to beA?but at no stage does he intrude into your relaxing surroundings. For dog owner there is a perfect field next to the cottage to stretch the dogA?s legs and plenty of dog friendly walks and Pubs. If you prefer to stay at home and eat in then ask Simon for the outside cooking pot, a fab and tasty treat. A lovely cottage close to nature
Reviewed on 31/05/2016This is the second time we've stayed at James Cottage and in the out-of-season cooler evenings it's even more cosy than it was before now that it has a wood burner installed. We will definitely be returning to stay here: it's tucked away and very peaceful and the setting is beautiful. The main door opens on to the garden and we sat out there every day. Trees surround the garden and it was lovely hearing the breeze in the leaves and observing the birds, which were very active. When it rained we could sit inside on the sofa and still enjoy these aspects with the top of the stable door open. Our dog loved it too: in the mornings we went through the orchard (20 seconds' walk away) and round the meadow. There is masses to do and see locally. Coverack is a short drive away and is very tranquil. The harbour is tiny and picturesque, and it's fascinating to sit on the wall and watch the fishing boats come and go and sometimes chat with the fishermen. Coverack has the best fish and chips, which you can eat sitting on the harbour wall, and Archies Loft (just above the harbour) is the best (and tiniest) cafe, with lots of character. The beach is good too. And stunning coast path walks in both directions. We did our food and drink shopping at the Spa shop in St Kaverne. The bakery is tucked away in an industrial unit but is worth seeking out for their delicious Cornish pasties. Although we've only been there once, the Greenhouse restaurant is excellent if you want a posh meal. Simon was very welcoming and helpful, and thoughtful in suggesting places to go/things to do which met our specific needs. And his hens produce the most delicious eggs! And his golden retrievers are gorgeous. If you want to stay in a lovely cottage and be close to nature and 'away from it all', we can't recommend James Cottage too highly.

A delightful cottage
Reviewed on 04/10/2015This was a delightful cottage in a quiet location. It was clean and tidy with all amenities catered for. Wifi went down but was restored later. Poor reception on the mobile phone but ideal as we were not bothered by uneccasary calls. The location was secluded with orchard and woodlands close by. Ideal for nature lovers, twitchers and landscape photography. Short distances along country lanes to some wonderful villages with opportunities for fishing and sailing. The pubs all offered meals and fresh fish caught locally was always available. The welcome pack provided by the owner was great with several items of local produce. A peaceful stay and will return in the future.

Peace & quiet on the Lizard
Reviewed on 21/09/2015We had a very peaceful stay at James' Cottage. The property is tucked away with its pretty garden in a hamlet on the Lizard and there is easy access to all the harbours and villages around that part of Cornwall. We walked several sections of the coastal path mostly in beautiful weather, lucky for us in September. The cottage is cosy and warm but would benefit from some attention in the kitchen and bathroom. Both of which will be on the owner's list to improve I'm sure. The broadband connection was excellent but don't expect to get a mobile signal! All in all a wonderful place to have a holiday, made even better by the owner Simon who was always available. Thanks, Simon!

Lovely cottage
Reviewed on 16/08/2015Lovely little cottage tucked away in the heart of the Lizard. Beautifully finished and very comfortable, we were made to feel very much at home. A very few little niggles could be addressed (the lock on the bathroom door, for instance, which was very loose!) would make this near a perfect home away from home.

Excellent stay
Reviewed on 15/05/2015The host, Simon, could not have been any more helpful and welcoming. The cottage is very much a rural retreat, which is just what we were looking for. The atmosphere is so laid back you feel relaxed straight away. As dog owners we have been to places that say 'dog friendly' but are just dog tolerant when you actually get there - but not so at James, our pooch was made as welcome as us by Simon and his two dogs. The cottage is very well equipped and there was a really nice welcome pack, so you don't have to rush straight out to get shopping the minute you get there. Had a lovely time and would happily return.
