Property Location

St Ives, once a busy fishing village, now relies on tourism as its main industry. Turner came and painted a landscape in 1811 and art has played a part in St Ives’ history ever since. More recently Barbara Hepworth and the Tate Gallery have put St Ives on the modern map. The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden is an amazing place to visit, and well worth it even if you're not a budding artist. Trewyn Studios where she lived and worked from 1939 until her tragic death in 1975 has been turned into a fantastic museum, depicting many of her favourite sculptures in the subtropical garden, is now managed by the Tate. The Tate Gallery St Ives was built in 1993 on the former gas works site displaying various paintings, sculptures and ceramics.

Skidden House at the bottom of Skidden Hill is the oldest working hotel in the town as well as the first hostelry where Guinness was sold in the UK in circa 1760. St Ives and St Columb Major near Newquay are the only two locations left in Cornwall where 'Hurling the Silver Ball' takes place, once one of Cornwall’s most ancient and intriguing customs. St Ives and Carbis Bay have recently been presented with a Silver Gilt as part of the "Britain in Bloom" campaign, they also boast some amazing north coast beaches.

But the main draw of the town has always been the stunning golden sands and azure blue waters, with glorious views stretching from Godrevy and Gwithian all the way to Hayle.

Porthminster at Harlequins apartments is central for the areas and villages of the west of Cornwall, Land's End, Mousehole, Penzance and St Michaels Mount. Facilities for golf, sailing, course and sea fishing are all available within easy reach. You can take country and coastal walks or visit local country pubs for well-priced meals or shop in the local superstores in St Ives and Penzance. There are a wealth of gardens to explore. The mines at Lelant, Geevor, Bottalack and Poldark are a short drive away. The Minack Theatre and Porthcurno beach are also well worth a visit.

A superb holiday let..........clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated and Covid friendly. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and are considering a visit to St Ives again next year so Gwithian will be our first choice. Harlequins is set upon quite a steep hill which may prove challenging for some. All in all a fantastic week.

Warm, spacious, comfortable and clean!

This property was everything it said on the tin! The pictures depicted it exactly as it is! This was without doubt, one of the, if not the, best place we've ever stayed in!! We could hardly believe it! From the sun streaming in whilst sitting having breakfast in the bay window, to the cosy evenings by the fire, we loved every minute! It is just a short 10 minute walk to both the beach and the town. But the only drawback is, it's all uphill on the way back! Certainly tests your fitness levels! The apartment is large and spacious, plenty of room to store everything you need for a self catering holiday!

Lovely stay
Reviewed on 22/08/2020

Really enjoyed our week in Gwithian. Lovely property & fabulous views. Great shower, comfy beds & really good to have the DVD player, which we made full use of. It is a climb up from St Ives & the beach. If youA?re not fit itA?d be a challenge. Were a couple of issues that would hugely benefit the property & could be easily fixed. The lack of blackout blind on the front door did affect our stay. You canA?t turn off the stairway lights at night & they light up the whole flat if the bedroom doors are open. so to sleep you have to have the bedroom doors closed. ThereA?s no window in the second bedroom, so sadly my teenagers had either bright light all night or a very very hot room. So they didnA?t sleep well all week. It may not bother many people but one of the reasons I booked here, with 3 kids was the washer / dryer, with lots of trips to the beach planned. The washers great, but the tumble dryer takes several hours & didnA?t work well either. A separate dryer would be great & make a holiday so much more relaxing. If the blind issue were fixed & the flat had a tumble dryer, we would happily go here every year.

Very comfortable with great views. Some sort of shelving would be handy in the bathroom also a blind on the inside of the apartment door. Apart from these points everything was perfect.
