With the advantage of having a well stocked coarse fishing lake on site and 8 acres of farmland & wooded grounds to explore at your leisure.

Property Details

Glenleigh Cottage is located in a delightful rural position, close to the main road between St Austell and Truro. The location is perfect for those wishing to explore the whole of Cornwall and is especially close to the South Coast from St Mawes & the Roseland Peninsula to the south, the beautiful gardens of Heligan and Trewithen, the spectacular Eden Project in St Austell and the wonderful harbour towns of Charlestown, Mevagissey and Fowey. Charlestown has been the setting for many historical dramas including the latest series of Poldark. There are fantastic sandy beaches within a short drive of the farm on the beautiful nearby coastline which also offers great walking and cycling opportunities.

The cottage itself is a spacious and very well equipped conversion of a stone barn which was completed a few years ago. There is an open plan kitchen, dining and living space with a vaulted beamed ceiling. A private garden with a patio area is behind the cottage - a perfect place to enjoy an evening drink or BBQ. This is a wonderful place to stay for those who enjoy a spot of fishing. There is a beautiful, well-stocked lake with a great assortment of fish and twenty easily accessible platforms. Carp have been stocked to 25lb, tench to 7lb, bream to 6lb, perch to 4lb with higher than average-sized roach, rudd and hybrids. With a central island and lily pad beds, there is no shortage of fish-holding features to fish to. The lake is a short walk from the cottage and your fishing is included with any booking! Sticker village with pub and local shop is just a 12 minute walk away.

Property Location

Once a market town St Austell is the central location for visiting Cornwall. With large attractions such as the Eden Project on the outskirts of St Austell, The Lost Gardens of Heligan a 15 minute drive towards Mevagissey.

Charlestown, a beautiful and traditional harbour and the scene of many historical drama including Poldark is just a short drive away. The Shipwreck museum is well worth a visit.

The coastal town of Fowey is a simple 20 minutes drive past the China Clay port of Par, offering fabulous restaurants, galleries and gift shops. A short car ferry across the river takes you on to Polruan. Daphne du Maurier spent her later years in properties in and around Fowey, a festival of her works takes place each May.

St Austell was once the major producer of the worlds China Clay, now with cheaper foreign imports the industry is in decline but The Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum set in two former working pits depicts the countryside in years gone by. Wet weather activities could include the visitor centre at St Austell Brewery, sampling beers and ales made on the premises. The brewery has recently started exporting their products across the Tamar River to England, so you may just find where your favourite brew is made.

A welcoming spacious cottage well placed for local attractions.

A welcoming spacious cottage that is well placed for visiting the Eden Project, the Secret Garden at Heligan and nearby beaches. We particularly enjoyed visiting the fish and seeing local wildlife.

First time in a holiday cottage and very pleased

It was our first time staying in a holiday cottage and we didn't know what to expect but we were gladly surprised. We also have a 5 week old baby but was just as easy as staying at home. Thank you John and Jackie :)

Best break ever in the UK

The property was wonderful, just the sort of place we would like to live in. Well laid out with plenty of room yet still quite cosy. We wanted a 'get away from everything break' and that's what we got. Sheer bliss with no neighbours (except John and Jackie, the owners) but all amenities available if required.

A very pleasant stay

This is a well-appointed cottage and everything worked as advertised. The owners could not have been more welcoming or helpful during our stay - Jackie's infectious enthusiasm, in particular, was a great antidote to the pretty awful weather we experienced. Because of the weather we were unable to make use of the excellent outdoor facilities at the cottage during our stay but it is well-positioned for exploring South Cornwall, which suited our needs. While not luxurious the cottage has everything a reasonable holidaymaker might require and is very well-maintained. It is good value for money and we would be happy to stay there again.

A lovely cottage ideal for touring - Very good accommodation and lovely owners . Just a suggestion if leaving fairly early on the date of departure it would be helpful if there was a place allocated to leave the key. Plus at the many cottages we go to within the year some form of welcome pack is now provided whether teabags and small milk or biscuits. Makes for a pleasant welcome

perfect accommodation for a family of four, very comfortable with loads of space for all! Superb hosts and lovely surroundings! Lots of local knowledge to make the best of our holiday. Cottage is close to main road links for easy access but still off road enough to be away from it all! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends and would go back anytime!

Great place to stay

Perfect location. So much to see and do within a 30 min drive or less. Even more within the hour. Jackie and John are really friendly, and helpful if you need anything. The cottage is ideal if one (or more) of your party has limited walking ability as everything is on one level. Fully functional kitchen. For mobile phone fanatics the data signal is very weak and wifi only works in the lounge/kitchen. if you are thinking of staying in the St Austell area (this is just a few mins by car from St Austell itself) it's definitely worth a look. It was perfect for us.

We'll be back!

Jackie and John are excellent hosts, and are there on arrival to give you a warm welcome. They are easily contactable during your stay and are kind and helpful at all times. My little ones set off with Jackie every morning at 8am sharp to feed the chickens and the lambs and it was one of the highlights of their week. There is plenty of space to park just across the road, and even inside the gated forecourt if the hosts do not need the space themselves. The large, converted stable is a good size (we were a party of two adults, and two children under ten), clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. It can get a little chilly as the property is located in a small valley, but you have control of the heating for the property so that is not a problem. The open plan kitchen/diner/living room works very well for still being able to be with the children whilst you cook etc. Having two bathrooms is a great bonus. The garden and fishing lake are beautiful and well worth an early morning/late evening stroll round every day. My children insisted on it! (There is a small bridge for playing Pooh Sticks!) Round the back of the property is a small sun-trap picnic area, and you have the use of two body-boards and a windbreak for the beach. It was well located for my work in Truro, and for visiting the South coast, the Eden Project and Charlestown. We would stay again.

Absolutely wonderful

Both owners were extremely helpful and polite - giving us a ring the day before' to ensure that we were okay with instructions etc. The cottage itself was absolutely wonderful - clean - well stocked even to having numerous dvd's for 'horrible' weather. The cottage was situated on the Truro side of St. Austell and was well placed for Eden Project, Mevagissey, Lost Gardens of Heligan etc etc. The beds were comfortable and spotless. The kitchen had everything that we needed. It was a lovely break away from reality - just wish we were there now!

Highly recommended cottage. One or two tweaks could make it even better.

We had a great time here. A wonderful garden and fishing lake. Owners, John and Jacqui v friendly and helpful. 1 or 2 minor quibbles with facilities. Eg could do with more loo rolls, sharp knives, and a decent can opener. Great base for visiting Cornwall and close to all amenities. On the whole we were well pleased.

The cottage has a generous layout which works really well for open plan living. The bedrooms and bathrooms are a very good size and offer quiet places away from the main living room. Great Place To Be

Lovely little cottage It was very peaceful and set in a lovely garden. It had the most efficient instant central heating I've ever encountered, good for September days with chilly mornings and evenings. The twin bedded room might be better for 2 children than 2 large adults complete with luggage but the cottage was great for getting around this stunning area, the lounge and kitchen arrangement were great and our host was very nice and helpful

Another Wonderful Stay

My Husband and I have just spent another wonderful week at Glenleigh Cottage. This was our third visit to the cottage, and are already looking forward to next years stay. Whats great about Glenleigh for us, is that it's perfectly situated to get to all the places we like to visit, like Mevagissey, Heligan etc..nothing is very far away. Shops are all in 10mins drive away in St Austell, which is perfect if you need anything. The cottage itself, is in a wonderful private location, but as I say, not far away from everything. The cottage is extremely spacious and disabled friendly, which is perfect for anyone like myself, who is physically challenged. There isn't any negative points I can say, only that I wish we could have stayed longer, given the weather was extremely good to us, given it was September, we never expected to have such hot weather, and Glenleigh Cottage was the perfect place to stay to enjoy it. Looking forward to next years stay already. Jackie and John are the perfect hosts, always there if you need them, but not intrusive. So thankyou once again to Jackie and John for making our stay as wonderful as our previous visits. See you both next year.

Comfortable Accomodation, in an excellent location

Glenleigh cottage is situated five minutes drive south of St Austell. The location is excellent as it is a quiet rural setting, yet within easy striking distance of the Eden Project, most of Cornwalls tourist attractions and of course the coastline/beaches. The cottage is on the edge of the local villages Sticker and Hewas Water which has a local shop and village pub. The pub is a four minute drive or ten minute walk and offers good quality food and charming hospitality. The closeness of the pub to Glenliegh cottage is a benefit; a great place to go on the first night after a long drive to Cornwall. Glenleigh cottage is bright, clean and warm and is furnished to a high standard withh all the ameinities of a modern home available, a real home from home. We would recommend it, our stay was June 2015.

Best Holiday Cottage in St Austell

This was mine and my Husbands second stay this year at Glenleigh Cottage. We stayed for 5 nights in May this year for our honeymoon and was so impressed, we booked again for October as soon as we arrived home. Our second visit was just as perfect as the first. I cannot fault anything about this beautiful cottage, and anyone reading this will have to come and visit to see what I mean. The very big plus side for me, is it's built for people with disabilities too, which is rare in Cornwall so being a disabled lady, I found everything easy to access, as the cottage is ground floor and very spacious. Also anywhere we wanted to visit was only a short drive, or a short walk if your fit, to where we wanted to go, so no long drawn out drives as the cottage is situated in a good place to visit all the local attractions. We love the place so much, we're already booked in for next year. What can I say about the owners? Jackie and John, are the two most kind and helpful people you could ever wish to meet. The personal touch they give their visitors to the cottage makes the stay extra special. They are around if you need them for anything, but not intrusive. So Thank you to Jackie and John for making our holiday a pleasure....and see you next year.

thoughts on glenleigh cottage

my husband & i had a wonderful holiday at glenleigh cottage. the owners were very friendly & helpful & the cottage was excellent, especially for me because it was all on one level & had very easy access. fortunately the weather was very good & we were able to visit local places & attractions every day, all within easy reach. we both would like to return to glenleigh cottage in the near future. my husband enjoyed the fishing in the private lake very much.

Equipment

Cuttlery and crockery was limited in quantity and quality. Frying pans were extremely worn and tatty. Basic cleaning material was only very limited, cottage is not really suitable if you travel by plane to UK.

From the Owner:
Its unfortunate that the Baumann party did not bring this issue to our attention, we could of supplied more cutlery as required. The cottage has at least 6 sets of everything so that for a group of 4 there should be sufficient. The frying pan has been well used frying our delicious farm fresh eggs and although serviceable and clean has now been replaced! We have many very satisfied overseas guests visit Glenleigh Cottage and our previous reviews speak for themselves.

Lovely place to stay

It is usually down to me to select our family holiday accommodation because I tend to make good choices. Yet again I got it right in selecting Glenleigh Cottage. My Wife and both sons loved Glenleigh and so I guess I get to keep my job for another year. To be perfectly honest my youngest son (11) was so pleased with the fishing we could have stayed in a pig pen and he would have been happy, but my wife and oldest son are far more discerning so their opinions count. The pictures available on the website are entirely representative of what we found upon arrival. The cottage was spacious, impeccably clean and comfortable. The owners were a pleasure to meet and were helpful if we needed any local knowledge etc. Local pub, local shop all good and St Austell just 10 mins away. I am sure that we will return.

Hope to return

Prime position to reach local attractions. Wonderful owners who proved very accomodating yet not intrusive given the position of their farmhouse in relation to the holiday cottage. Had a great time and toddler loved the novelty of the farm animals on site. Would love to return next year.

A hidden treasure!

Lovely place, lovely people and lovely dog! As we are perfectionists with such high standards, we were a little sceptical when reading the previous published reviews. However we were delighted to find that our scepticism was unfounded This is by far the best Cornwall Cottages venue we have had the pleasure to stay in

Perfect location for an early summer break

This property combines a quiet farmyard location with adjacent easy parking and quick access to the A390 (St Austell/Truro) and thus many south-west Cornish attractions. It is a tasteful conversion of an old stable block and is all on one level with ramp access so would be a good choice for elderly guests or those with reduced mobility. The high ceilings and open plan of the main living area give a feeling of spaciousness and light. The bedrooms, the main having en suite facilities, are both comfortable. Everything a visitor could reasonably need is there, including wireless broadband which I always look for these days, and it was well maintained throughout. The friendly owners John and Jackie were always around if required, happy to chat and suggest things though never in an intrusive way. A stay is highly recommended and it is definitely on my list for a return visit.

A Perfect Honeymoon

My Husband and I stayed at Glenleigh for our Honeymoon, and the moment we arrived, we knew we'd picked the perfect place, we couldn't fault anything, and we'll be returning next year for a 100% perfect stay again. Thankyou Jackie and John for making our stay memorable.

Fabulous Glenleigh

Our second visit to Glenleigh Farm and it was as good as we remembered. The hosts are very welcoming and full of advice on places to visit. The cottage is clean, roomy and well equipped and the animals on the farm kept our 2 year old entertained. Great fishing too. Situated in a good location to see all of Cornwall but nice and quiet and rural.

Wonderful place

Such a lovely holiday cottage. Friendly but not intrusive owners made us feel really welcome and provided us with great information about local beaches and facilities when we asked. Lovely gardens to walk about in, pigs chickens and sheep to look at so would be good for families. Would say that you need a car to get around as there is not much within walking distance.
