You are spoilt for choice with beaches, the closest being the sand and shingle beach of Loe, six miles to the south, which offers a comprehensive selection of watersports. The beaches to the north, about a 30-minute drive, include St Agnes, Perranporth and Newquay and there are several further sandy beaches at Falmouth to the south. The King Harry Ferry crosses the Fal to take you to the beautiful Roseland Peninsular and St Mawes. There are three golf courses and several National Trust gardens, such as Trelissick and Glendurgan, within easy driving distance. The city of Truro is only about a 5 minute drive (you can also walk to the centre of the city in about 25 minutes) and has a wide selection of good shopping including a Tescos, Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer and many other high street outlets. There is also a cinema and a great selection of restaurants, pubs & cafes.
The resort of Newquay is about 12 miles to the north with its spectacular surf beaches at Fistral & Watergate Bay. Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" restaurant is located here. Padstow, with its fine selection of restaurants influenced by Rick Stein is just over 20 miles. Harbourside towns & villages such as Fowey, Falmouth & St Mawes are all within easy reach. For those flying to Cornwall, the airport is within easy reach.
The Cathedral City of Truro is in the heart of Cornwall and offers a wealth of facilities for the visitor. Dominated by the stunning cathedral, it is one of the south west's most attractive cities. Lemon Quay plays host to many events throughout the year including the Cornwall Food & Drink Festival in the Autumn and the famous Truro Fatstock Show just before Christmas. Regular farmers markets occur every Wednesdays & Saturday and there are also arts & craft markets on Saturdays. There is a wonderful range of shopping for the visitor including all the regular high street stores in addition to Marks & Spencer, Tescos & Sainsburys, but also a wide range of more specialist stores. It really is worth a wander through the back streets and alleys to find some fabulous little boutiques. Truro has a superb range of restaurants from Bustopher Jones & Mannings on Lemon Street to the always popular Pizza Express. There are lively bars, pubs & nightclubs including the Old Ale House, a busy Wetherspoons and the infamous L2 if you are so inclined! The nearest pub to Featherbeds is the City Inn and is great for real ale enthusiasts. The Hall for Cornwall hosts everything from Shakespeare to rock concerts and the cinema on Lemon Street has all the latest releases.

We had a fantastic stay at Featherbeds. Stuart was really friendly and helpful and very accommodating of our 4 month old son. He went above and beyond our expectations, with those little extras which made our lives easier and led to a relaxing holiday. Very warm welcome and a lovely welcome pack. Nothing was too much trouble and we particularly enjoyed the log fire. A great stay and we will definitely be returning soon. Thanks Stuart and family

We stayed for a week and had a marvelous time. The owner, Stuart, is the most welcoming guy - very friendly and helpful whilst but also careful not to intrude on your space. The cottage is light and airy and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It's simultaneously in the middle of nowhere and close enough to Truro for a pleasant 20 minute walk into the city and Truro itself is a lovely little city with lots of places to eat and a pleasant atmosphere. A slight detour off the direct walking route into Truro takes you up some very picturesque steps and past Kenwyn church - well worth a try. Yes, I would certainly recommend Featherbeds and may well consider going back again myself in the future.

Stuart was very welcoming and friendly. He checked us in and made sure we were OK and left us alone but made it clear we could contact him with any problems. The location was very good for a relaxing chilling holiday but not easy to walk to or from a pub due to the very narrow, dark lane. The upstairs was perfect with plenty of room but downstairs is a little tired and cold do with a refurbish.

Featherbeds was a delightful cottage to visit all areas of Cornwall from, set in a green oasis with only the sound of birdsong for company. At the end of a leafy track it was easy to find thanks to the owner's directions and a warm welcome awaited us in the form of wine, flowers and a cream tea. The mezzanine bedroom level provided an opportunity to communicate with those below and even watch tv through the balcony rails:). We were pleased to find Featherbeds was run on eco friendly lines and really appreciated the availability of holiday equipment in the dairy opposite the front door. It was very private but it was nice to know the owner's were close by should they be needed.

A lovely isolated rural location away from traffic & street lights. A welcome gift of wine, milk & clotted cream greeted us on arrival. Stuart (the owner) was very helpful & considerate, with one exception. The toilet seat fixing was broken & reported on Sunday, but took until Wednesday to resolve. Having only a downstairs toilet was also somewhat of a nuisance. The kitchen & bathroom are in need of updating, especially the floor tiles, which have a colouring which makes them appear dirty.

We stayed in Featherbeds in late August 2015. The accommodation is very comfortable and although within walking distance of Truro it is in a quiet, rural setting. We had a hire car which was useful for reaching the nearby beaches of the North and South Cornish coast but it would be possible to stay here without a car and use the train to travel to places such as St Ives as well as walk to Truro or the nearby woodlands. Boscawen Park has a popular children's play area and the local ferries make a great way to great around. The welcome to the property included a Cornish cream tea, bottle of wine, milk, tea and coffee. We were able to cook an evening meal without any difficulty and the owner's family made us very welcome. The wood burner was efficient and made for cosy evenings. Our son enjoyed the DVD collection and we all slept soundly on the comfortable beds. We enjoyed our stay enormously and would recommend Featherbeds without hesitation.
Guest from Ashton Under Lyne stayed for 7 nights.
Although off the beaten track, it was peaceful, quiet and very comfortable. Everything you needed for a "self catering" holiday was all provided. We were met by the owners and lovely cream teas were waiting on our arrival. The Venison family who were just next door were so quiet and polite and never intruded at any time during our stay, which made it even more a very pleasant stay. Not too far from the town of Truro, and the Cathedral is well worth a look. Plenty of things to do and see if you want to travel further afield, as not far from the main route around Cornwall. I would visit this location again, it was worth every penny. I would like to thank Mr & Mrs Venison for a wonderful pleasant experience.

Had a lovely week at Featherbeds. We all loved the conversion with the galleried bedroom. The cottage was very comfortable with everything you might need. The owners were very friendly and always available to help and advise on where to go etc. There was lots to do in the area. Just wish we could have stayed longer!

Beautiful views over a quiet and peaceful landscape. Not far from a really nice town truro. My daughter is a vegan and there are many cafes etc that accommodate her. The cottage was very clean, owner very welcoming and friendly. Would really recommend staying there. We even saw a deer down the drive way.

Excellent accommodation and facilities providing great comfort in a very quiet and private location with good access to local town and routes to other areas of Cornwall. Cottage owners could not have been more helpful.

Three of us stayed last week at Featherbeds and cannot fault it. The welcome from Stuart and Niki was excellent and the property is a lovely and comfortable cottage that has everything you need. Featherbeds is a perfect rural retreat, the only noise at night comes from the local wildlife, mostly the owls, but we all slept soundly. Perfectly located, close to the amenities of Truro, but within easy distance of a large proportion of the county. From Featherbeds we did trips to the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Falmouth and St Mawes, and the Minack theatre via Penzance driving back the scenic route via Land's End and St Ives. A visit to the Cathedral and a journey home via Lanhydrock completed a lovely week away. Thank you Stuart and Niki!

Stuart was a very helpful and welcoming host. Nice to have a bottle of wine and a cream tea waiting for us! The cottage was very clean and comfortable. It is in a good location for touring the area and it's even possible to leave the car parked up for a few days and take the train from Truro or the ferry to a number of places. Using the river path the Cottage is in walking distance of central Truro. A real bonus!
