Property Location
Bude is Cornwall's most northern town and has been a favourite seaside resort since Victorian times. The coastal scenery surrounding the beaches of is quite beautiful, boasting some of the finest sandy beaches and the best surfing in England! The town has excellent facilities and a wide selection of interesting, independent shops. This idyllic area has a large amount of birdlife for the dedicated twitcher and some wonderful, scenic walks along the South West coastal path. The centre of Bude is a lively hub with concerts, dances and fetes as well as other events throughout the season, including an annual Carnival Week. The town has a host of pubs, cafes and restaurants to suit every palate and there is a new Visitors Centre in the Crescent car park, a large children's play area, a 19th-century canal and a small wharf amongst many other attractions. Bude is also home to the internationally acclaimed jazz festival which takes place each August.
Further along the coast is Sandymouth, a large beach ideal for families due to its lovely sand, rock pools and tea rooms. A short drive north over the border into Devon leads to the quaint village of Hartland which has a magnificent church with an amazing painted ceiling and one of the tallest towers in England. Hartland Quay has a hotel and Wreckers Bar as the coast here is littered with wrecks and is a lovely spot for some lunch. Also well worth a visit is the world-famous fishing village of Clovelly. The cobbled, traffic-free, high street is built into a cleft in a 400' high cliff and tumbles its way down past whitewashed cottages festooned with flowers to the tiny working port.
Kilkhampton, which dates back to before Saxon times is the location of the remains of a 12th-century motte and bailey style Norman castle and the church of St James the Great, which is over 450 years old. Both of the two pubs in the village the New Inn and London Inn serve food, there is also a Co-op, Spar, Post Office, electrical retailer, hairdresser, a chippy and both Chinese and Pizza take away establishments.

A super cottage on a lovely farm
Reviewed on 05/10/2020In these very different times currently, Fairview provided a wonderful escape. The cottage and owners were lovely and we enjoyed days out walking sections of the coastal path, cycling the very hilly routes around and body boarding on Sandymouth Beach, which was our favourite of all the coves. Would highly recommend staying with Rob and Anne and we would love to go back.
Rob & Anne replied:

A peaceful, comfortable stay with fresh eggs from the farm and cows at the bottom of the garden.
Reviewed on 16/09/2020The property is spacious and ideal for a quiet get away. For anyone trying to find it your satnav tells you to turn left at the end which takes you to Lee Barton Farm - ignore this and turn right and a short way up the hill you will find Forda Farm on the right. There is a small wooden sign but the Lee Barton sign stands out so that you don't notice the Forda Farm sign. It is extremely quiet at night and even though there are chickens in the farmyard and cows very close to the house you don't notice any noise. The owners are very friendly and you can buy fresh eggs daily from the box at the farm entrance. We were also given some green beans and cucumbers that they had grown and which were absolutely delicious. What you don't realise from the cottage information online is that there is a small wooden gate that you can put across the flight of stone steps in the garden to make them safe for children and small dogs. The garden room is lovely to sit in late afternoon and early evening when it catches the sun and you can watch as the sun sets. Bude itself is lovely, as always. It is the place where I would happily live and hope to some day. There is enough to keep everyone happy whether they enjoy the beach, swimming in the sea pool, walking by the canal, walking over the cliffs or enjoying the shops and eating lots of lovely food. I recommend the Mermaid for fish and chips! All in all we had a lovely holiday and would come back.
Thank you for your review, glad you enjoyed your stay replied:
It was a pleasure to have you stay in Fairview, thank you for leaving it so clean and tidy.
We will take on board your remarks about signage and will improve this as satnav's are confusing when there are 10 properties with the same postcode. The little gate shutting off the steps needs a mention as well!
Many visitors enjoy the garden room it is very popular with our friends and a little refuge from the busy day.

Family Staycation
Reviewed on 02/09/2020Ann was very welcoming and was on hand if we needed anything, fresh eggs were lovely AGBP1 for 6 bargain :) The kids loved them, Ann also provided the items we needed for our 3 month old grandchildren, plenty of room in the garden for the older 2. Weather wasn't on our side for a couple of days but still had a great time, barbecue came in handy. Good location, not far from beach and able to visit other parts of Cornwall. Thank you Ann.
Rob & Anne Manfield replied:

Wonderfully spacious cottage but pungent damp smell. Property had not been cleaned thoroughly.
Reviewed on 27/08/2020It is a beautifully spacious cottage although it did not meet our expectations in terms of cleanliness, hygiene and heating. Pungent damp smell> Upon arrival we noticed a strong damp smell throughout the cottage. This small did not go away and bothered us during our stay. There were damp patches on the wall in the bunk bed room. When we returned from holiday we had to wash all our laundry (even clean items that we hadn't worn). I also had to wipe down our suitcases with zoflora. Towels/bathmats> The towels and bathmats were worn and old looking. Cleanliness> Some of the windows needed wiping down - cobwebs and dust had gathered over a period of time. The lean to at the entrance needed a proper clean. Heating> The cottage had panel radiators. Only two worked in the lower bedrooms. I mentioned to Anne that we were struggling to turn on the panel rad in the lower bathroom (this is the one that we needed most). She did not visit to look into it but did apologise for it not working. In fact several heaters were not functioning when switched on. Beds> The beds were not comfortable but that we accepted that. Bathroom> The shower in the bathroom downstairs was extremely powerful and the shower screen was not sufficiently big enough to contain the spray. the result - soaked floor. A minor point - No shelves or areas to put toiletries/toothbrushes in the shower room or bathroom. Toothbrushes that had to be balanced on sink kept falling off. Lounge> Fantastic sized room, great dining area. A minor point - the lighting in the lounge was too bright, including the freestanding floor lamp. Just having the table lamp on was too dark. Lean to at Entrance> It rained heavily one day. In the morning I had to remove and dry our beach blankets, shoes and sports equipment from the left hand area (as you enter the property) as they had been soaked through with rainwater. Kitchen> The kitchen was superb - fitted out with all the utensils, equipment that we needed. The kitchen including the appliances were brand new. Positives> The owners Anne and Rob are very kind and accommodating, although I anticipated that they would not be able solve the heating problem whilst we were there. Lovely for the kids to be on a farm and to enjoy the interaction with the animals. The farm buildings were run down (perhaps that should be mentioned in the description, but it is a working farm). I would like to recommend this property as it is very spacious but it needs a bit of an overhaul to make it more comfortable, welcoming and dry.
Property owner replied:
Thank you for taking the time to review.
The property was cleaned thoroughly with antibac and hypoclorite, the surfaces and furniture are wiped down with antibac wipes and the floors are steam cleaned. Where the the damp smell came from is a mystery, we could not smell or find any traces of damp.
The towels and bath mats were new last year and have not had much use this year.
Windows outside are liable to get cobwebs and dust due to the rural location and there may be the odd spider during your stay.
The porch is cleaned before letting but that is the first place of entry and will collect marks. At that particular time heavy rain may have flooded the gutter, but if this had been pointed out to us we could have seen to it.
This has now be cleared.
Anne and our son David did attend to the towel rail radiator in the bathroom and it is set for 20* c and if the temperature of the room is above that, it will not switch on. The same with the electric panel heaters in the bedrooms, hall and living room, the temperature can be adjusted but they need to be switched on at the main switch. They are all in working order and checked regularly.
The water pressure from the shower can be adjusted with the the shower head.
Lighting is a personal thing like beds, there are four separate groups of lights that can be used to suit most preferences.
We are very sorry that the accommodation was not quite to your expectations, we have taken you comments on board.

Very peaceful and short drive to beautiful beaches
Reviewed on 08/08/2020We are a family of five and we think this was our sixth summer there. Every member of the family loves it there, the farm setting is so peaceful, the house is spacious and you can get to several beaches in 20 minutes. The location is perfect, after a busy day on the beach, it is great to return to the peace and quiet of Fairview. The hosts are so welcoming and helpful and it is a delight to see them year on year. We hope to be back soon.
Rob & Anne replied:
Thanks for your review Jo and look forward to seeing you all again sometime.
