Property Location
The delightful and charming village of Veryan on the Roseland Peninsula is most famous for its nineteenth century thatched Round Houses. There are five in all, two pairs of which stand at each end of the village and another in the centre. They were originally built by a missionary named Reverend Jeremiah Trist for his daughters. In a round house there are no corners where the devil can hide. A crucifix on the top of each one adds extra protection! Portloe is considered by many to be the jewel in the crown of the Roseland peninsula and one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall. Its steep sided valleys has meant that it has managed to escape development over the years and many buildings differ little from when they were built. Sir John Betjeman said of Portloe "One of the least spoiled and most impressive of Cornish fishing villages". Nearby is the lovingly restored Melinsey Mill where you can relax in a charming valley with a delicious Cornish cream tea. The Lugger Hotel in Portloe with its excellent restaurant is only a short drive away and the Ship Inn is also a good place to eat. The New Inn at Veryan serves food. There are shops at Veryan and a Londis store at Bessy Beneath.
St Mawes Castle, built by Henry VIII in the 16th century sits on Castle Point at the mouth of the River Fal. At the top of St Mawes, Lamorran Gardens house a wonderful collection of tropical plants with lovely views down into the Harbour. St Just-in-Roseland has arguably the most photographed church in Cornwall. The 13th century church sits quietly tucked away on the edge of the creek. The Veryan Roundhouses are a must see, on the way to Nare Head, where you will find the most spectacular views of Gerrans Bay. The little village of Portloe nestles in lovely valley and is one of Cornwall's quintessential spots. Portscatho has a number of art galleries and many artists find the light in this harbour village inspires much of their work. The Roseland Inn at Philleigh is a 16th century pub just waiting for you to visit. The most popular thing to do though on the Roseland is simply to walk and enjoy some of Cornwall's most beautiful coastline.
Events on the Roseland reach fever point in August when sailing regattas, carnivals, fayres and fun days take place all over the Roseland and the waters of the Carrick Roads. It is a memorable place for many people who return year after year to enjoy the magic of this beautiful place.
Portscatho and its neighbouring village of Gerrans are located on the eastern coast of the Roseland Peninsula, overlooking the dramatic Gerrans Bay. A truly peaceful waterside village, Portscatho is a lovely place for a holiday. There are miles of coastal and countryside footpaths to explore, particularly along past Towan beach and out to St Anthony's Head. Portscatho was once a busy fishing harbour, but now it has become a haven for artists due to the striking light which is particularly good in the morning sun. More than anything, Portscatho is a place to relax.
There are some stunning beaches around Gerrans Bay from Carne and Pendower in the east stretching round through Porthcurnick (Rosevine) and on to Towan and Porthbeor at the west, they are nearly all very accessible and have plenty of exposed sand at low tide and magical rock pools which can keep children engaged for hours! Most importantly compared to the hustle and bustle of the north coast they are comparatively empty!

Idyllic retreat
Reviewed on 06/06/2022We enjoyed a wonderful weekend here to attend a friends wedding. The owners were really welcoming and made us feel so at home allowing us to enjoy their amazing gardens and making a fuss of our young son who was thrilled by the resident hen! We would certainly look to make a return trip and highly recommend if you are looking for a peaceful getaway close to quiet beaches.

Crugsillick court
Reviewed on 22/09/2021The location was lovely, there was a short walk to the beach and the small garden around the cottage was peaceful and secluded. However the hostA?s attention to detail was sorely lacking. There were lights not working (bedside and shaving), toilet roll holder was broken, toilet seat in main bathroom was peeling and loose, toilet seat in shower room also loose. Worst of all was the lack of cleanliness. Both toilets, the floors and the shower had to be cleaned by one of our party before use. The toilet brush holders were in a disgusting state. Kitchen sink needed cleaning. There was a bucket under the sink with a dirty wet cloth in. Hopefully it had not been used in the kitchen. The hosts were informed and on the last day came to apologise saying their cleaner had 3 properties to clean in a short space of time. This seemed irrelevant and completely inappropriate especially in view of COVID and the need for extra care. We were asked to spray every hard space with anti viral cleaner before we went which we duly did hoping the last guests were as compliant.
Alison Agnew replied:
We are very sorry that our cottage didnt come up to expectations with regard to cleanliness. This year we have consistently had scores of 4/5 and 5/5 so we dont understand what went wrong this week. Unfortunately our guests re-cleaned the bathrooms before informing us so we were unable to redress the problem ourselves.
We agree that the cottage has suffered some minor wear and tear issues at the end of a very busy season and we are very grateful for these being brought to our attention.
We very much hope that our guests had an otherwise enjoyable stay in this very special place.

review
Reviewed on 21/07/2021Fabulous surroundings an magical gardens, including beautiful little garden and terrace just outside our property. Very nice, friendly, welcoming hosts; with beautiful garden flowers brought in. Lots of hot water throughout day. The kitchen and sitting room are lovely, including lovely clean/new carpets. Bedrooms are a little bit 'gloomy' because of being downstairs; would probably feel a little damp in very wet weather. The 2 bathrooms were adequate - shower very good; but in the bigger bathroom it would be a great improvement if there was a wall mounted shower with shower screen in the bath. The 2 single beds were very inadequate and extremely uncomfortable; with thin, cheap mattresses.

A break on the Roseland peninsular
Reviewed on 02/06/2021We enjoyed our week at Crugsillick Court despite the wet weather. It is in a lovely part of Cornwall. The walk down to the nearest beach was lovely surrounded by bluebells and wild garlic. The scenery is beautiful and the cottage in a beautiful setting close to Milinsey Mill where we had a tasty lunch. The cottage was just as advertised. Downstairs possibly looking a bit tired compared to upstairs and double bed rather creaky. Kitchen very nicely set out and equipped well. Hosts very nice. Lots to see, would recommend.

Excellent location and friendly owners
Reviewed on 09/09/2020The cottage is in a great location and the owners were super friendly, including spending ages showing my nephew round their garden. The cottage itself is good with a new kitchen and big living room. It is not however A?luxuriousA? and in places a little tired- fine for us as with 2 small kids we didnA?t necessarily want somewhere super smart. The garden is a good size with both a private area with a bbq/fire pit and then a communal one with use of a trampoline, swing and table tennis.

A beautiful, well-kept cottage, ideally located for a relaxing holiday exploring the Roseland.
Reviewed on 02/09/2020Crugsillick Court is in a great location for exploring the beautiful Roseland peninsula. We enjoyed walking along the pretty woodland path, just down the road, down to Pendower beach. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and had taken every care to ensure Covid safety. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the fresh-picked flowers from the spectacular manor gardens, biscuits and bottle of wine were much appreciated when we arrived. The beds were comfortable and the cottage was well-equipped and had good space for our family of five.
