Located high on a ridge on the St Anthony Headland lies the sleepy hamlet of Bohortha. Made up of a cluster of cottages and a farm, this is the perfect place to escape from reality and enjoy the true beauty of the idyllic Roseland Peninsula. Crotchet Cottage is located at the end of a row of fishermen's cottages accessed by a short footpath from where the road runs out. Crotchet Cottage is surrounded by rolling rural landscapes, stunning walks with the best views of St Mawes, Place Manor, Pendennis Castle, Falmouth and the Carrick Roads, St Anthony Head and Lighthouse and Towan Beach are all close by, dog friendly and family safe.

This is a traditional, double fronted Cornish cottage at the end of a pretty terrace of mixed thatch and slate roof properties. It is full of character with exposed beams and thick cob walls, two bedrooms and a private garden area a short walk away from the cottage (25m). This is a dog friendly property and there are few places with such good access to some of the most stunning coastal walks in the county.

Ground Floor: Small entrance porch with coat pegs leads through to; Lounge with open fireplace (coal only - due to the proximity of thatch) comfortable sofas and chairs and a TV, kitchen / dining room with fully fitted units and appliances and a farmhouse table and chairs.
First Floor: Master double bedroom with 5' bed, distant views and storage, twin room with 3' beds and storage and a family bathroom with bath & shower overhead and WC.
Exterior: Grass / paved area outside the front door which is a right of way to properties further down the terrace. There is a further, private lawned garden with table and chairs.

Heating is via oil central heating and the open fire (coal only please) in the lounge. The kitchen has fully fitted units, electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge / freezer, washing machine & dishwasher. The lounge has a flat screen TV, DVD & CD player. Electricity & bed linen are all included, but you will need to provide your own towels and beach towels. Towels may be supplied as an optional extra at £3.50 / person. Portscatho and the neighbouring village of Gerrans are located on the southern coast of the Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall, overlooking the dramatic Gerrans Bay. A truly peaceful waterside village, Portscatho is a lovely place for a holiday. There are miles of coastal and countryside footpaths to explore, particularly along St Anthony's Head. Portscatho was once a busy fishing harbour, but now it has become a haven for artists due to the striking light which is particularly good in the morning sun. More than anything, Portscatho is a relaxing place. The beaches such as Porthcurnick and Towan are simply idyllic and are only minutes from the village. With a superb local butchers shop, 2 great little pubs and a well stocked local store, Portscatho and Gerrans are a lovely place to spend a holiday.

Crotchet Cottage is about 8 minutes drive along the St Anthony Headland from Portscatho, in the little hamlet of Bohortha. The beaches at Towan and St Anthony are only a short drive away (about 1 mile). Please do have a look at the location map for a more detailed idea of the position. The St Anthony Headland walks can be taken straight from the cottage. You can also walk to the Place Ferry landing stage where during the day you can catch the boat to St Mawes. There is a regular ferry between St Mawes and Falmouth. In the evenings, there is a water taxi available (booking essential).

St Mawes has so much to offer the visitor and can be accessed via the little ferry at Place Manor. St Mawes Castle was built by Henry VIII and is a splendid place to take in the views of the Carrick Roads. There are miles of coastal and countryside walks to take in and some idyllic beaches on which to relax and watch the world go by. Being situated on the seafront, the village is also known for the restaurants and pubs that serve superb fish and shellfish dishes all year round. There is a selection of pubs & hotels with restaurants (including the renowned Hotel Tresanton) all within easy walking distance. There is a range of shops all within a few minutes’ walk including a Cooperative store, Post Office, chemist, butcher, baker and art & clothes shops. The village also has both a doctor’s and a dentist’s surgery. St Mawes is one of the finest waterside villages in Cornwall. Situated overlooking an idyllic bay on the eastern side of the famous Falmouth Estuary, St Mawes has one of the mildest climates in Britain due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream. The sea is at the heart of the village and has helped to shape St Mawes from the little fishing village to the fashionable holiday destination that is so popular with visitors. A mecca for boating enthusiasts, St Mawes is a particularly popular sailing centre. Weekly club racing, village regattas and larger events are commonplace on the superb waters of the bay all through the summer.

Events on the Roseland reach fever point in August when sailing regattas, carnivals, fayres and fun days take place all over the Roseland and the waters of the Carrick Roads. It is a memorable place for many people who return year after year to enjoy the magic of this beautiful place.

Guest from Didcot stayed for 7 nights.

Quiet location away from the crowd

Lovely cottage, well kept, kitchen was great and overall we felt at home. The master bed was very comfy & we were impressed with the standard of the bedding. Only two niggles, the living room furniture needs a re-jig. It was awkward to watch tv for one guest. Secondly, parking can be an issue as there is a working farm next door & we got the feeling this was a contentious issue. However we had a peaceful holiday in a lovely location & we would return again.

Reply from Lindy Voos

We are delighted you loved the cottage and area. Thank you for the comment about the living room furniture, it's next on our list! Sorry to hear about the parking, i wasn't aware it was a contentious issue and will speak to the farmer when we are next down.

Thank you for choosing to stay in Crotchet Cottage. We hope you enjoyed the area and the cottage. We are sorry if you had difficulties in the immediate area. It is only a small village, and the cottage is next to a working farm, which many guests like. Through the description and photographs we do try to offer an accurate picture of the area. Thank you for your comment on the shower, which we will consider at the next opportunity. Best regards, John
