Property Location

Fowey (pronounced Foy) is one of the most iconic places in Cornwall. Set on the steep banks on the Fowey Estuuary, the narrow streets and alleys are just great to explore. Views of the harbour are dramatic just watching the activities in the harbour can keep you occupied for many hours! Life in Fowey revolves around the water. The local fishing fleet land the freshest catches and local specialities include mussels, oysters, clams, crab & lobster. There are some great restaurants and pubs around and nearby. Try one of Sam's restaurants or a little drive inland to the historic Crown Inn at Lanlivery is well worth the effort.

Life on the water culminates in the middle of August with the Fowey Regatta Week where yacht racing takes place all week. Watch the historic Famouth Working Boats racing in the close confines of the estuary or enjoy the many festivities around the town. The highlight is without doubt the spectacular display by the Red Arrows who rate Fowey as one of their most dramatic displays because of the steep valley. There are countless attractions near to Fowey including the Eden Project, Lanhydrock House & Gardens and the beautiful Luxulyan Valley.

The Eden project is 3 miles from Fowey and The Lost Gardens of Heligan 10 miles. Almost on the doorstep Par duck ponds & woodland walks link to the Clay trails long distance cycle paths. For garden lovers there are many open gardens to explore including Marsh villa Garden just 50yds away! You are in the heart of Du Maurier country with many places to find on the literary trail. Du Maurier Festival in May, Fowey Regatta August (ask for details). Consult the guide books & folders in the cottage & explore to your hearts content!

Cobbs Well Fowey
Reviewed on 04/08/2021

Lovely cottage ideal location, steep return from harbour if heading back from town, but that's Cornwall. My only negative, and this is nothing to do with the cottage, as this would be the case for any property in Fowey, is the church bells, Full chimes on the hour, every hour with quarter chimes in between, so basically an alarm clock all through the night. I'm a light sleeper.

Perfect location and very cosy
Reviewed on 15/05/2021

We very much enjoyed our stay at No 1 Cobbs Well, which is ideally located, just a short walk from the bustling town centre. The cottage is well-equipped and comfortable, with the added bonus of a superb small garden, where the sun hits just the right spot for breakfast. One little word of warning, the back bedroom (single) does get the full effect of the nearby church bell, which rings every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day! The other two bedrooms are on the other side of the house and well protected. I found the bell quite comforting and atmospheric, to be fair.

Charming and well-appointed cottage in the heart of Fowey with added bonus of a parking space
Reviewed on 06/05/2021

We had a most enjoyable stay at Cobbs Well. The cottage is tucked away behind the church and just a short walk downhill to the town quay. The cottage was well-appointed with comfortable sofas, dining area and well-equipped galley kitchen. The beds were comfortable although the double bed is definitely on the small side. The electric shower provided instant hot water with good pressure. The garden is a real sun trap and good for relaxing with a cup of tea after long walks. The parking space was a real plus and a rarity in Fowey. We would definitely recommend this property to others but you might want to bring earplugs as the church clock chimes every quarter hour!

Great cottage with parking
Reviewed on 16/12/2020

To be able to park adjacent to the cottage is a real bonus. We arrived to find the Aga stove had been turned on low so the kitchen area was very cosy! A nice thought by the owners. The cottage is comfortable, warm and roomy. We were 2 but it would be great for a family. The location is perfect being a very short walk down past the church into the village. We have always loved Fowey and a weeks stay before Christmas was a great tonic. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of storage in the room. The bathroom is fine. The shower is electric but there is a mains water shower attachment but itA?s a bit short but you can shower sitting down! The upstairs landing is big giving a lovely feeling of space. The galley style kitchen is fine with everything youA?d need although a proper sharp kitchen knife would be nice. There are some loose/cracked floor tiles in the kitchen but not an issue. In the summer the garden and patio would be great for sitting out for coffee. Overall a great value cottage in a great location and owners on hand if anything needs sorting.

Comfortable traditional cottage in the heart of Fowey
Reviewed on 09/10/2020

Well equipped, cosy cottage with everything we needed for our week's holiday. The garden is a real suntrap and sitting out there with my morning tea was a delight. Great location behind the church with views to Place House. Parking space a boon in central Fowey. 2 good pubs and the main street with wide selection of shops within 1 minute's walk. Excellent fish and chips; delicious crab sandwiches from Jack's. Fowey wasn't overcrowded in late September - there was a good atmosphere and people were behaving in sensible and considerate ways..

Quaint cottage
Reviewed on 09/09/2020

This cottage scores 10/10 for location, being just a short downhill stroll to the town and harbour. Another plus is the designated parking space (albeit a rather tight one, our Tucson fitted okay though). The cottage was clean and comfortable and with a few minor improvements could be Great! We didnA?t spend too much time in the galley kitchen and felt it could be better equipped, eg no tea plates only large ones. It was dominated by a large, non-working range (not that we would have used it), and the hob on the electric cooker was so slow it took ages just to boil an egg. Three lovely light bedrooms so lots of space upstairs, a king size bed in the main room would have been a bonus as there was plenty of room for one instead of just a double. The garden was the biggest disappointment- a lovely sunny spot to sit outside as the weather was good. However the grass had not been cut, with borders overgrown and the patio set frankly had seen better days. We enjoyed our stay in wonderful Fowey, and would recommend the cottage as the pluses outweigh the minuses.

Great Location
Reviewed on 22/07/2020

Great location, clean and comfortable accommodation. Garden area and furniture looking very tired and needs some TLC. Would definitely recommend re location to Fowey town and to drive around the area. Owner could be clearer in instructions around parking space as one would look at the metal gate and therefore parking space is on the left not on the right. Luckily a kind neighbour helped us out to park correctly, as one of the other neighbours has been getting very unhappy with those renting the property parking in his space in error and has also been blocking them in.....

A lovely cottage in Fowey.
Reviewed on 16/10/2019

We stayed in October 2019 and found a lovely clean and comfortable cottage, close to the town centre with an easy nearly level walk of just a couple of hundred yards to the centre. There is an enclosed garden, secure for children and our dogs, with furniture to sit out if the weather is good. We only managed it one time as the rain arrived for most of the week. There is also a parking space, very rare in Fowey, and big enough for a good sized car, There is also a covered porch, perfect for wet coats and dog towels, beach toys etc. All-in-all a perfect holiday cottage, we will go back.

Cobbs Well
Reviewed on 22/04/2017

We thought the new worktop in the kitchen was a great improvement. Also the new oven and hob, but we needed to ring the housekeeper for instruction as to how to turn it on. (Could be a good idea to leave instruction book somewhere easy to see). Housekeeper, however, was very helpful as we also needed to get the heating right and that was quickly sorted. Garden was looking very tidy and was a pleasure to sit there. Would love to have had a tin opener which worked! Also, some WD40 needed for the outside metal gate. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay - thank you.

A winter break in Fowey
Reviewed on 06/01/2017

Great little cottage a few minutes from the town centre and the Fowey river. Very cosy and comfortable with all that you want from a little cottage. Nice and warm during a cold winter stay, too. Hosts fantastic and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Would have loved a real fire but that's just being a bit fussy!

The cottage is well equipped, clean and tidy, welcomes our dog and the owners are welcoming and helpful. It has the added bonus of parking. We will see Cobb's Well again in 2017!!

Cobbs Well

Great house and location and only a couple of minutes walk from Fowey Harbour and town. Also a great place for touring other parts of Cornwall and the dedicated parking space at Cobbs Well made this easy. Kids loved staying there. Fowey beach is beautiful but small so we spent most days visiting other beaches in the area and there are several within a short drive.

Fowey
Reviewed on 08/08/2016

We arrived early and met the owners who were cleaning the property. They kindly let us in early when they had finished. Everything was fine ....the only downside for me was the quite steep hill to negotiate to get down into Fowey. Going down was fine but the walk back up the hill was a struggle! Made plenty of use of the lovely dog friendly beach in Par.

This is a lovely cottage a couple of minutes stroll from the shops, pubs and restaurants. There are all the amenities you need for a very comfortable stay. If you as I am, are a very light sleeper the church bells do ring at intervals all night and it may disturb you. However both my friends had no problem at all sleeping. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Cottage charming but not really ready for renting, kitchen cupboards a bit chaotic, shower screen allows water to leak underneath, cooker old and Aga very old, good heating but still a damp smell. Didn't venture into the shed which housed the freezer and washing machine, looked pretty scary in there. However, with a few modifications we would love to stay again!

Second Time Around
Reviewed on 04/10/2015

This was the second time we have stayed at No1 Cobbs Well, the first just on a year ago. We have be coming to Cornwall for more than forty years and have stayed in a wide variety of accommodation from camping and caravans through to hotels and more recently cottages. As we have two dogs finding suitable accommodation is essential. Fowey is one of our favourite locations and No 1 Cobbs Well in the centre of the town could not be better placed. The cottage is well appointed including a secluded sun trap garden to enjoy the early morning or late afternoon and makes for a relaxing time. The cottage provides all you need for a great holiday, wether you park the car for the duration and spend your time in around Fowey and the many great walks that radiate from the town or use it as a base to go further a field. The location is quiet, as its not on the main street. The neighbours are very friendly and helpful, particularly on local services. Fowey has some fine restaurants, though one has closed down since last year, but food served in all of the towns pubs and is both varied, good quality and excellent value. Our favourites are the King of Prussia and The Ship. There are a couple of good cafes and the best pasties are from the butchers next to the Ship PH. The Fowey hotel for upmarket dining and afternoon tea and stunning views of the River Fowey. If you follow sports, for a modest membership fee, the Royal British Legion on the quay side has Sky TV and BT Sport on big screens. Mobile phone service in Fowey is abysmal, but the cottage has WiFI as do most of the pubs. A great holiday venue that would be hard the better.

lovely cottage full of character, some minor issues.
Reviewed on 16/09/2015

lovely cottage, close to all amenities, great to have a parking space. Minor concerns about comfort of main bedroom's mattress as overly hard, awkward having freezer in outhouse as conscious of possible mud on feet when making trip to it ! Low ceilings with chandalier made it quite dificult to avoid bashing head but minor issue for tall people. Church bells took a lot of getting used to (!), but on the other hand, a lovely part of the local atmosphere. The cottage was very well equipped generally but could have done with more easily to hand instructions for example, for the central heating controls as we had to phone owners for this info on arrival.

Family holiday (kids aged 10, 7 + 3) enjoyed by all
Reviewed on 02/09/2015

Lovely old cottage, good value for money. Great location in Fowey, central enough to only have short walk down to harbour/shops/beach yet easy enough access by car (ie not too much driving through narrow streets for all those day trips). So much to do in the area, could have done with 2 weeks. 4 out of 5 stars from us - not 5 only because washing machine + freezer are outside in the garden shed (kitchen small) and we were catering for 5 + needing to wash loads of beach things etc. Kids had a really lovely time, settled right in and slept well :-) despite being right by walkway up from town + pubs. We had a great view of the fireworks for the final day of the Regatta from the upstairs windows! Pack plenty of books/toys/essentials, shops in Fowey are lovely but not cheap. Thank you very much Michael and Babs, we really enjoyed our stay!

'a fantastic stay at Cobb's Well'
Reviewed on 16/08/2015

The cosy cottage is in a great location and it catered for everything we needed, it's just a few minutes walk into the town centre and its beautiful harbour. If you turn right from the cottage and then left by the phone box you can walk up to Readymoney beach and further, the views are spectacular.
