Property Location

It doesn’t take long to discover that Bude is possibly more diverse than any other holiday destination in Cornwall. Most major villages, towns and attractions are within an hour's drive; and because Bude sits on the county border, visitors are free to explore the delights of both Devon and Cornwall at their leisure. Look past the eight main beaches and many smaller hidden coves and you soon see there really is something for everyone.

As it is a pleasant walk to the town centre of Bude, the huge sandy beach is a favourite with children and adults alike, there is an outdoor sea pool, pretty canal, golf course, splash pool and tennis courts, and you can enjoy all of this without the need of a car!
Bude is Cornwall's most northern town and has been a favourite seaside resort since Victorian times. The coastal scenery surrounding the beaches is quite beautiful, boasting some of the finest sandy beaches and the best surfing in England! The town has excellent facilities and a wide selection of interesting, independent shops. This idyllic area has a large amount of bird life for the dedicated twitcher and some wonderful, scenic walks along the South West coastal path.

The centre of Bude is a lively hub with concerts, dances and fetes as well as other events throughout the season, including an annual Carnival Week. The town has a host of pubs, cafes and restaurants to suit every palate and there is a new Visitors Centre in the Crescent car park, a large children's play area, a 19th century canal and a small wharf amongst many other attractions. Bude is also home to the internationally acclaimed jazz festival which takes place each August.

Further along the coast is Sandymouth, a large beach ideal for families due to its lovely sand, rock pools and tea rooms. A short drive north over the border into Devon leads to the quaint village of Hartland with its very own shipwreck! Also well worth a visit is the world famous fishing village of Clovelly. The cobbled, traffic-free, high street is built into a cleft in a 400' high cliff and tumbles its way down past whitewashed cottages festooned with flowers to the tiny working port.

Further West down the A39 will lead you to
Boscastle, Crackington Haven, Tintagel and on down to Rock, Padstow and Wadebridge all with their own fascinating histories, endless beaches, magnificent promontories, secluded coves and pubs and restaurants full of character and fine local cuisine - this part of Cornwall will rapidly become one of your favourite holiday destinations.

Wonderful cottage in great location for Bude and surrounding area.

We had a great Spring time week in this lovely cottage. Very well appointed and comfortable in all areas- We had everything we needed down to hand soap, a washing line and tin foil. The cottage is well laid out for a family of 4 with the kids bedroom close to the front room and master bedroom so they donA?t get anxious as mine sometimes do in an unfamiliar setting. Amazing shower too! There is a lovely outdoor space too with BBQ and utensils. The walk into Bude is lovely and a dead flat easy 10-15 mins. Kids bikes or scooters would be really good for this! We hardly used the car at all. We tried out The Bank (Tapas restaurant) on the walk into Bude. Really lovely but not cheap. Loved the Olive Tree for coffee or a beer and watching the world go by. Our best day trip was to Clovelly- highly recommended for a lovely day out. All in all a lovely week and I hope weA?ll be back. Thanks Amy for your hospitality!

A well equipped cottage in a great location

Our first impression of the cottage was how clean it was. We stayed there with our two dogs and had a lovely autumn break. We have stayed in cottages before but never one as well equipped as By The Byre. Dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and washing machine detergent were all available to use. Also wood for the log burner along with kindling and firelighters. The central heating was very warm too, I had to turn it down so I could light the stove! The kitchen was well equipped too for cooking meals and breakfasts. The shower was fantastic, a hot cascade of water form the huge shower head. The bed and sofa were very comfortable too. The stroll into Bude along the cycle track or canal was flat easy walking.

An enjoyable week

We found the cottage very well maintained and equipped with everything you could need. The location was great for us, quiet and in close proximity to the cycle path and towpath for walks in to Bude (abou 15mins) and beyond to the coast path. We enjoyed a few meals out in Bude which offered a good variety of restaurants and cafes. We'd particularly recommend the Bank, not only as it was only a 10 minute walk but the food was fantastic. Next time we are in Bude we will definitely be booking By the Byre again.

Excellent

By the Byre had everything you need in a good location for Cornwall and Devon. Everything had been thought about, from toilet rolls to washing tablets to tea towels to games to dvds to info on things to do. (Only suggestion would be a mirror in twin room say teenage daughters - although they were delighted with the excellent WiFi!) Pleasant easy walk into Bude with all it has to offer. We had an excellent stay. Only marked comfort as good because not much room for 2 adults and 2 teens on sofa in sitting area.

A beautiful week in Bude at 'By The Byre'

We had a smashing week at 'By The Byre'. Some provisions were very kindly provided on arrival and the cottage was lovely and clean with everything catered for. The owners were very welcoming, friendly and helpful and the location of the barn was superb! In the countryside, yet only 10 - 15 mins walk into the centre of Bude via a country footpath / canal located very near 'By The Byre'. So peaceful at night with beautiful, 'starry' skies! We took our dog, Delko & he loved the lovely walks into Bude. The cottage had a lovely outdoor paved area with a table, chairs, BBQ etc and so with the beautiful weather, we eat outside most evenings. The sliding patio doors also open right up, giving you the feeling you are sitting in the garden! Bude is lovely and clean - with public areas, beaches well maintained and some fabulous cafes /restaurants / pubs. Also, great surf! Bocastle, Tintagel & Padstow all near.... we couldn't have had a better week in such beautiful surroundings. We would certainly recommend 'By The Byre' and hope to return there sometime. When the weather is beautiful and the surf is good, there is no better place anywhere than North Cornwall.

Fabulous holiday in Bude

We had a wonderful stay at By the Byre. Amy and Johnny made us very welcome and we felt very much at home. The barn is in a fabulous location with stunning, picturesque views. The property was spotlessly clean and was perfectly equipped for a relaxing holiday. There were many extras, not normally found in a holiday home, which made our stay more comfortable. Its a small thing, but many other properties we have stayed in only provide the basics e.g. a couple of loo rolls (never enough for a week). Plenty of cleaning products and dishwasher tablets, hairdryers and the most importantly soft, fluffy bath sheets (no postage stamp towels here). The only thing I can think of which would be a good idea is a set of binoculars to enjoy the view even more (we forgot to pack ours). We will certainly recommend By the Byre and hope to return again.

Perfect cottage in Bude

By the Byre is a lovely, modern, well equipped cottage/converted barn for 4. It is next to the owners farm house in a peaceful setting. It is a 20 minute walk into Bude along the flat cemented canal path. The cottage was very tastefully decorated with dishwasher and washing machine and had wi-fi - essential for my 2 teenage kids! The main, open plan living area has a high ceiling giving it a feeling of space and light. Johnny and Amy the owners were very welcoming and their dog 'Flip Flop' was so cute. We would highly recommend this cottage as the perfect base to explore Bude and the surrounding area.

A well appointed cottage

This is a fantastic, modern, stylish and homely accommodation with basic supplies provided. The location is perfect, it is in a quiet country lane but has easy access to the Bude Cycle path which takes 15 minutes to walk to Bude town centre. While we were there we enjoyed fishing in the Bude canal, hired bikes locally and enjoyed meals at The Deck and The Bank. Amy and Johnny were very welcoming and friendly and lived on the farm next door. We went to Summerleaze beach located in the town and spent the day bodyboarding which was great fun. The Bude pool is a well maintained sea pool and provides swimmers with the opportunity to swim without the waves. It is somewhere we would definitely revisit.

We have stayed in a number of self catering cottages over the last 30 years or so and we would say that this is best cottage we have ever been in. The best cottage we have ever stayed in!

By the Byre isn't the prettiest chocolate box cottage, but it more than makes up for that in every way. Amy and John have thought of absolutely everything when it comes to customer comfort... Even down to a boxes of doggy and baby stuff in case you've forgotten anything. It is immaculately clean, the beds comfortable and the little courtyard garden is perfect for sitting out in the afternoon sunshine. The location is perfect too: a short walk from the centre of Bude, right on the cycle path, 2 minutes from beautiful canal walks, plus close to the coastal path. All in all we couldn't have asked for better. This is a real gem!

A lovely cottage in a stunning landscape

Arrived in this stunning part of North Cornwall, which we had never visited before. We were immediately warmly welcomed, and shown the cottage - attentive hosts, but not overpowering. Amy and John live next door, so any questions were easily raised. The cottage is light and airy, with high ceilings, this was ideal as the weather was very hot. The style is minimal, with clean lines. There are exposed beams in the bedroom and shower room. Wooden flooring throughout, except for carpetting in the two bedrooms. The door into the property folds back concertina-style to create a gap of about eight feet, allowing more air circulation on a hot day. The outdoor space was much appreciated too, with a safe and secure area for the dog. Very quiet location. There is a cycle path and canal tow path that lead into the town of Bude (about half a mile away), just enough to exercise the dog on the way for something to eat and drink! Walking the length of the canal brings you to Summerleaze beach, a one mile walk, dogs allowed but on leads. Our favourite was the slightly more distant Northcott beach - three miles away, along the coastal path, dogs allowed lead-free. A lovely cottage in a stunning landscape, very impressed.

Excellent Accommodation

By the Byre is well laid out and spotlessly clean, with good supplies of basic essentials (and more). Would certainly stay there again if visiting the Bude area. Personally we would have preferred firmer pillows, and possibly an extra one available (although have just realised we could have borrowed one from the twin room!). The only other comment is that a 10 minute walk into Bude along the cycle path/canal is rather optimistic - although not as fast as some we do walk at a reasonable pace but feel it was nearer to a 20 minute walk.

A lovely place to stay, very comfy and easy with kids, a short walk in to Bude

Place was lovely, arrived and straight in no fuss, then walked just 10 mins down the cycle path to the Bank, a lovely tapas and cocktails place. Next morning had a slightly longer walk in to town, very easy down the path, fine with the buggy and our kids. Explored the beach, nosed around some of the shops and had nice tea and cake at Wroes, before toddling back for lunch and baby nap time :-) The rest of the holiday went just as nicely, troops out to Tintagel and Launceston railway, and a couple of lovely afternoons on the beach, an excellent holiday!

Cosy getaway

Great place to stay for easy access to walks along the canal towpath into the centre of Bude and the Atlantic coastal path. There is also a cycle path that nuns alongside this route. In spite of very wet weather during out stay, these paths were mud-free as they are purpose built. The cottage itself couldn't have been more comfortable with all essentials provided (and more). We would definitely recommend this cottage to others and we hope to re-visit.

Delightful property equally close to countryside and town amenities.

A well equipped and comfortable cottage within easy reach of river walks and the town centre. We took our dog and it was absolutely ideal for her but would have liked a garden gate so that she could have access to the outside without us having to worry that she might stray. Without any previous knowledge of the area we stuck a pin in the map and fortunately found By the Byre. This cottage is only a short (flat) walk from the town centre of Bude but it is so peaceful you could be forgiven for thinking you were in the middle of the countryside. We took our two labs with us and they loved it as much as we did. The property is beautifully finished and equipped with everything you might need for your stay (and for us excellent internet wifi). We mixed eating in and eating out and it worked for us. You are a very short walk from one of the National Cyle Routes so bring your bikes if that's what you fancy, we walked into town and on to the beach most days following the canal and the cycle route which meant no cars and no hills. At this time of the year all beaches are dog friendly so the dogs had endless fun, as did we! There are some interesting places to eat locally but Bude hasn't attracted the foodies as has Padstow (yet). We enjoyed The Bank for great tapas, Life's a Beach at Summerleeze beach good seafood and without question the best fish and chips (and lobster) at Scrummies in the centre of town. All in all a great cottage, perfectly located to enjoy Bude, the coast, the surf and everything Cornwall has to offer. We should forget to thank Amy and Johnny for the warm welcome and some useful pointers along the way.

Very good accomodation.

A very nice, clean barn conversion with everything you could possibly need for a holiday stay. The owners have made very good use of the space available and the garden was simple but perfect. We were made very welcome on our arrival and felt confident that the owners wanted visitors to enjoy their stay and relax at "By the Byre". Would be happy to book again.

Cottage met expectations and more! Excellent location to tour north Cornwall & Devon. Ideal courtyard / garden for our small dog and a sunny spot to boot.

Fantastic, good use of the space and planty room for our family of four. Excellent location.

The property was excellent, very clean and everything we needed was provided. The property had plenty of room for our family of four and was located in a quiet rural area but close enough to walk into Bude centre within 20 minutes.
