Property Location

St Mawes is one of the finest waterside villages in Cornwall. Situated overlooking an idyllic bay on the eastern side of the famous Falmouth Estuary, St Mawes has one of the mildest climates in Britain due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream. The sea is at the heart of the village and has helped to shape St Mawes from the little fishing village to the fashionable holiday destination that is so popular with visitors. A mecca for boating enthusiasts, St Mawes is a particularly popular sailing centre. Weekly club racing, village regattas and larger events are commonplace on the superb waters of the bay all through the summer.

St Mawes has so much to offer the visitor. St Mawes Castle was built by Henry VIII and is a splendid place to take in the views of the Carrick Roads. There are miles of coastal and countryside walks to take in and some idyllic beaches on which to relax and watch the world go by. The little Place Ferry takes visitors to explore St Anthony's Head or there are regular ferries to Falmouth. Being situated on the seafront, the village is also known for the restaurants and pubs that serve superb fish and shellfish dishes all year round. There is a selection of pubs & hotels with restaurants (including the renowned Tresanton Hotel) all within easy walking distance. There is a range of shops all within a few minutes’ walk including a well-stocked Cooperative store, Post Office, chemist, butchers, and art, book and clothes shops. The village also has a doctor’s surgery and a dentist’s surgery.

A great house in a great location
Reviewed on 28/10/2020

A lovely place which would suit families or groups of friends equally. The house has everything you need for a stay in the Roseland peninsula. Great views from the balcony to watch the sunrise, comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. The area is great for walking and there's a regular ferry over to Falmouth but you'll definitely need a car if you want to travel further afield. There are a few restaurants in the village, all of which were good. The Victory Inn does a great Sunday roast.

Stunning stay at Bennerley House
Reviewed on 09/09/2020

We had the loveliest week staying at Bennerley house, it was stunning. I am already missing the amazing views from the balcony, glass of wine in hand! The only negative thing is the noisy bakers coming and going down the side alley, who appear to make zero effort to lower their voices at 6/7am in the morning. That said, it wouldnA?t stop me from returning! Loved it. P.s. would be fantastic if the owners could plant a few herb planters outside so that those who like to cook can get them easily, as nowhere seems to sell fresh herbs in St Mawes! Just a thought.

The perfect property!
Reviewed on 14/10/2019

Been coming to the Roseland for 50+ years, but the first time staying in St Mawes. The house was extremely comfortable, beautifully furnished, warm and well equipped. With the sea so close, it almost felt like you were on a ship when looking out from the upper floors. Fantastic views! A perfect location for village amenities, small beach and ferries. The first floor balcony provided a wonderful place to sit out - even in early October - and because of the raised position it gave a decent amount of privacy from the considerable number of people walking by. The lack of on-site parking didnA?t cause us a problem, but needs factoring-in - it could be quite a walk from the house to the top of the public car park for some. We had a late availability booking, so with just two of us staying in the house it gave better value for money - would probably not have considered it at the full price. So glad we did!

A week at Bennerley House
Reviewed on 14/08/2019

The house has been beautifully renovated and the views are stunning. Our stay was mostly comfortable- there were a few very small practicalities missing (coffee table looks lovely but isnA?t practical, missing bins/ coasters etc.). Our favourite space was the kitchen- diner. ItA?s a brilliant space to eat or drink and watch the world go by. Overall, a really relaxing week away.

Lizzie & Rob replied:
Hello...We're glad you enjoyed being our first guests after renovations! We are staying here this week and have taken care of the small practicalities you mentioned. Thanks for the review!

Weather was not great when we stayed, it rained heavily at times and the property had several damp patches throughout the ground floor. Not what we expected for the price we paid, however it would not stop me booking this property again. The damp patches were not a problem last year when we stayed. It is older property with character in a fantastic location. Only other issue is if you are a light sleeper you will be woken early in the morning by the bakery which is nearby. Overall this a good holiday property with great views, with a lovely small first floor balcony. It is located in a charming Cornish village right on the front overlooking the sea.

Lizzie & Rob replied:
Hello - we are the new owners and, though it seems a bit strange replying to a review from 2015, we thought we'd mention that the house has had a complete renovation in Spring/Summer 2019. Damp course was included of course, along with plastering, painting, carpets, furniture, upstairs room remodelled + The new photo's go up on the week of 26/08/19!

Great house, shame about the noise...
Reviewed on 05/05/2015

Having visited St Mawes many times staying in hotels, we thought we'd try renting accommodation to make for a more relaxed stay with our 8 month old baby. Firstly, the house is excellent. They have thought of all the things that you need to cater for yourselves, and the furnishings are nice and comfortable, especially the beds. We had a nice time, staring out at the passing scene with the boats and people in a week where the weather wasn't exactly great. Our whole experience though had the shine taken off it on account of being woken every morning between 6am and 6.30am by the bakery up the alley beside the house. Understandably they are up early to get the days stock ready, but there is constant noise from the mixer and then the clatter of trolleys going right past the bedroom windows at the time of day where you'd hope for the most peace. Luckily having the baby we are normally up early anyway, but he was woken by the noise a couple of times which was not good. I appreciate that the bakery is doing it's thing and obviously have the right to make noise or they wouldn't have been granted the licence to operate, but no-where in the write up for the house or in any of the literature received post booking does it mention this. I feel it is a little unfair that this is not mentioned as people should be able to make an informed choice of making a booking. We would definitely have thought twice about booking had we been warned, but perhaps that is the reason there is no mention of the problem anywhere. Overall, the house itself is great, but only if you're an early riser or heavy sleeper!
