Property Location

The cottage is located 2 miles from the beach at Crackington Haven, which is included in the best surfing beaches in England and was recommended by the Marine Conservation Society in its Good Beach Guide. The walk down the hill is breathtaking and stunningly beautiful as you wind down through the valley. The scenery in the beach area of the surrounding majestic cliffs is almost unrivalled. At high tide, the beach is a mass of quartz-veined pebbles and large boulders but at low tide, it reveals an expanse of sand and many rock pools. Only the road separates the sea from a couple of beach shops, two superb beach cafes and a public house with a restaurant and fantastic terrace. The cottage is located in the parish of St. Gennys, which prides itself on the excellence of its public paths with the National Trust owning most of the cliff and adjacent farmland.

As you travel down the coastline, you can visit quaint coastal villages such as Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac, the latter offering a range of fantastic restaurants where you can enjoy the freshest and most delicious fish.

Fifteen minutes up the coast is Bude, a popular tourist destination for both its surfing and fantastic family beaches in Widemouth Bay. The watchful eye of the RNLI lifeguards allows for some of the best surfing in the world alongside swimming and a whole host of water-based activities. Bude today is a lovely sea-side town, the main shopping streets and inter-connecting alleyways play host to a wide range of locally owned shops, restaurants and pubs. There are boutiques, shoes, arts & crafts, jewellery, hand-made gifts and souvenirs.

Six miles inland is Bodmin Moor, one of Cornwall's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cornwall at its wildest and rich in ancient history, Bodmin Moor stretches for 30 miles through the heart of the County of Cornwall and offers spectacular walking and horse riding. With easy access to the both the A30 and the Atlantic Highway you can quickly travel up and down the South-West to enjoy some of the larger tourist attractions that Devon and Cornwall have to offer.

We had a wonderful stay, well appointed kitchen, huge comfy beds, and a lovely garden. Only ten miles from Bude, Boscastle and 12 miles from Tintagel, so a great base to drive from. Crackington Haven is beautiful and well worth a visit. Welcome picnic basket was very well received. The only slight downside was the water pressureA?but that probably is relevant to the location.

A really lovely but very practical cottage especially with pets and a multi generation family holiday. We loved everything about it. The welcome pack was really good and the cottage itself is tastefully decorated and very comfortable but also very practical with a flag stone large porch for when returning from walks with pets and wet gear. The kitchen was a great social space with everything you needed including a very good fridge freezer with ice making facility. This led to a nice garden which was safe for our dog and had nice garden furniture for everyone to sit around and enjoy a drink together. The lounge had three good sized sofas with a large smart TV plus books and games to enjoy. The two En suites plus family bathroom meant a multi generational family all had there own space. The pub in Crackington Haven ( Coombe Barton Inn) was excellent and dog friendly as was the Wainehouse Pub on the main A39 and only 5 mins away. The Cabin in Crackington Have was also good. The walk to the beach was challenging coming back as very steep and dogs arenA?t allowed all year round so in our case (September ) we could only take our dog on the beach to play before 10am and after 6pm. The sunsets at Crackington Haven our amazing. We would go back as it was a very comfortable and relaxing place to stay with good access to nearby amenities and further places within Cornwall .

The house is very comfortable, and easy to live in with small children and dogs! Lots to do in the locality, country walks, beaches (Crackington Haven recommended), with Boscastle and Tintagel within easy reach.

Absolutely fabulous, spacious, well furnished, home from home. We went for walking and we were not dissappointed. A beautiful walk through country lanes and villages to the coast. No traffic using them as very narrow. We bought eggs, chutney etc from honesty boxes outside small holdings. Dark nights were a bonus with no light pollution and stars very visable. You could see the most amazing sunsets from the lounge.

Lovely Holiday home

We stayed for two weeks at Barn cottage in Rosecare as a group if 6. The cottage is roomy and really comfortable. The kitchen is really well equipped- even laundry and dishwasher tablets provided, and we cooked many meals in there. There is a large American fridge freezer with ice dispenser for your well earned G&T. The beds and mattresses are really comfortable and there was a bathroom for each couple. The living room is really big with large comfy sofas and a wood burner and large screen Tv with sound-bar! The small garden is really nicely designed with deck and sofa and is a suntrap- it looks out over the communal green so is a quiet and relaxing place to chill out. There is a shop a short drive up the road and a good pub called the Coombe Barton Inn for food in Crackington Haven. It was really busy in June/July so strongly recommend booking popular restaurants in advance. Lots of lovely walks near to the cottage and the coast path and circular walks around Crackington, the scenery on this part of the Cornish Coast is very hilly and dramatic its really beautiful. Boscastle is a pretty village with nice cafes and a farm shop for a nice lunch (book ahead). Book ahead for Tintagel castle down the road and the old post office. Jon was a really attentive host and popped by to make sure we were comfortable and was on hand of we needed anything. Thanks for a great holiday

Cornish Gold!
Reviewed on 06/06/2021

We first visited this cottage in August 2018 and the first thing that struck us were the improvements Jon had made (not that it needed improving!) There is now an American style fridge/freezer with water and ice making functions. The garden gate and fencing to the common area is more secure and our Golden Retriever had no chance of escaping. The outside area is decked with outside spot lighting. A huge flatscreen Smart TV is now in the living room too. The cottage is immaculate and scrupulously clean with precautions in place for Covid prevention as much as reasonably possible. The welcome basket was unexpected (due to Covid restrictions) and incredibly generous with an assortment of goodies and thoughtfully, a bottle of milk in the fridge too. There was enough tea, coffee, dishwasher and laundry tablets to last our stay (again a thoughtful and welcome gesture) The cottage is a real home from home with the kitchen having every appliance you would need for a family stay - with our two small grandchildren with us the washing machine and tumble dryer were very much appreciated. The kitchen is extremely well stocked with cookware and what I always look out for - quality knives and pans! Huge baskets of games and books are available under the table in the living room too. The beds in the two ensuite rooms were superkings and very comfy, had incredibly good sleeps whilst we there. Jon came round for the rubbish on the Wednesday and we suggested putting a black-out blind on the children's bedroom as the sun (when we had it) streamed through, and you could see he took the suggestion on board and I wouldn't be surpised if this wasn't implemented before too long! The week we were there the weather was appalling so we spent much more time at the cottage than intially planned and having all these home comforts was extra welcome. We managed to barbecue twice on the charcoal barbecue but didn't really have chance to take advantage of the lovely outdoor seating area which was disappointing - thank you British weather for driving rain and gale force winds at the end of May!! A genuine thank you though to Jon and Sarah for sharing their beautiful home - we will be back!

Peaceful cottage in rural location
Reviewed on 19/08/2020

A lovely cottage in a quiet location. On opening the door, we were hit by the smell of cleaning products. Very reassuring in a pandemic. Everything was spotless, and the welcome pack even catered for my childrenA?s coeliac disease. WeA?ve never had such attention to detail before and it made us feel very valued and safe. The cottage was very modern and comfortable - a big freezer and fridge to hold a whole weekA?s shopping, and good Kitchen equipment. Big TV for evenings in with DVD player. The location is quiet, the field behind the cottage is great for kids to roll down or climb the tree. The walk to the beach was long, up and down, and quite a challenge of fitness. A nice hike, but we drove to the beach with our equipment. Strangles beach is perfect if you want to be alone. It is about a 20 min walk down from the car park but the path is well marked. ThereA?s a rope for the last 4 feet, so it cuts the numbers and gives you a very peaceful, beautiful beach to share with a handful of people. ThereA?s a handy shop at the top of the road in the petrol station. Very convenient to reach Widemouth Bay for surfing, Bude for the supermarket, Bodmin for a peaceful walk and the tiny towns of the north coast, which we avoided this year as the narrow streets are no good for social distancing, but we will return when we can explore them. If we were coming in a mixed group again I would bring an extra TV/ radio to put in a downstairs bedroom, as the open plan makes it difficult to have two groups watching different tv/music in the communal spaces. The WiFi was excellent throughout the house. Phone signal was in and out but strong if you walk a few steps up the grassy hill out the back.

Well equipped house, extremely comfortable and well maintained. Loved it! Our 3 teenagers had no issues using the wifi - not always true in Cornwall. Great quiet place to stay with a lovely 30 mins (strenuous) walk through woods down to the beach and ice creams. Hope to return! Note - could not rate 'value for money' as excellent as we find Cornwall properties very overpriced in general but compared to other properties we've stayed in in Cornwall this one offers a lot more value than most so it's somewhere between Good and Excellent.

Beautiful cottage in picturesque location

Just enjoyed a fantastic holiday in this well equipped cottage. The pictures donA?t do it justice! From here there is a pretty walk to the beach, itA?s set in the centre of a hamlet and has a gate that backs onto the green which is just lovely to take your cuppa or wine in the evening to enjoy the sunset! It was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Kitchen was very well equipped and the lounge Is comfy with views down the valley. The Beds were very comfortable too. The weather wasnA?t brilliant so hope to return again to use the bbq and enjoy the well kept garden and explore the area more - it really is very picturesque and such a lovely spot away from it all (whilst being able to get a pint or your provisions close by)! If you have a dog and/or like walking or surfing this is a great spot for you. Crackington Beach is half an hours walk away, along the stream down the valley - a very pretty walk.

Peace and Quiet
Reviewed on 25/09/2019

Amazing location. You literally hear nothing all night and for most of the day. People cutting their grass and that's about it. Bliss. Steep walks to the coast, not for the unfit that's for sure, so be aware. It's a steep 1 in 5 climb both ways. Facilities are very good with pretty much everything you need. Only things it needs are more bowls and an extra front door key. Only one which seems odd as the house sleeps 8 people so separate groups heading out. One of the dining chairs was broken when we arrived but other than that everything was great. Surround sound system isn't needed really, way too intrusive and vibrates the entire downstairs. Recycling/refuse was a little confusing especially as there were not recycling bags in the house, only two black bin liners and a couple of food bags. PAT testing on the electrical items out of date too. Just little niggles but the house and location are a great get away.

Jon replied:
Thank you Neal for such a thoughtful review and I'm very happy that you enjoyed your holiday in Rosecare, as you say, it's a very peaceful place! If I may I'll address your thoughts in order. We started out the year with twelve of everything crockery wise so the attrition rate must have been quite high! Normally the housekeeper let's me know of shortages but this must have been overlooked. We'll replace them and add extra. Regarding the extra keys, my theory was that the last members of the party out of the door would put the keys in the outdoor key safe ready for the first ones back. We'll certainly add an extra set though and add a note to the guests book regarding the safe. My apologies for the chair, again it must have been overlooked. Apparently it was a screw had fallen out which has now been replaced. The recycling used to live in the entrance porch but an earlier reviewer disliked it so we moved it to the garage! I'll improve the system for next season and provide a calendar for what goes where/when and also review the consumables that are provided. The electrician inspects the house every the spring for PAT testing so I'm hoping the issue is a labelling one as everything should be in date. I will get it checked immediately. Once again, thank you for taking the time to review Barn cottage and I hope we can welcome you and your family back to Cornwall again soon. Best regards, Jon.

My friends, kids and I had a lovely week at Rosecare cottage. The views were amazing, the cottage was stunning and it was so peaceful there. There were beautiful beaches that we visited around 10 mins drive away and Trethorne leisure farm which was great for the kids. We walked to Crackington Haven beach which was one of our best days, the beach was amazing and the 45 min walk definitely cleared the cobwebs. It did rain overnight a couple of times and when asked if there was an airer, Jon the owner ordered one for us straight away which was great. Inside the cottage, you had everything you needed for cooking, cleaning, washing etc, the beds were so comfy and loved the shower in the master bedroom. Thank you for your feedback and I'm so sorry for any shortcomings with your short break, I only wish I'd been made aware of your concerns during your stay so I could arrange for them to be rectified. I've taken note of the housekeeping issues for future reference, and will of course look into the sofa problems, although this has not been a noted issue in the past. I'll also pop a mirror in the upstairs bedroom. I've taken onboard all your comments to ensure standards are kept high for future guests and am glad the rest of your stay was good . I do hope we can welcome you back to Cornwall again shortly. Best regards, Jon.

A really great house and garden, there was everything you could possibly need, very comfortable and spacious. Ideal for children having the garden gate open onto the A?greenA?. Lovely setting, would stay there again.

The house had a lovely feel about it, just like a home away from home, the kitchen was very well equipped. Plenty of space for everyone, we were a party of six and we were all comfortable. Walking distance to Crackington Haven. And close to lots of places to visit. Very happy with our stay

A lovely stay

We had a lovely stay in an excellent equipped cottage. The garden is not massive but there is a very big green space just outside the back garden door. The kids loved playing chase there. Bude, Tintagel and Trebarwith Strand are just a Short drive and there are more lovely beaches around. We also had a nice walk (1h) to Crackington beach. We would love to come back.

Beautiful well equipped cottage close to Crackington Haven and Bude. On arrival there was a bottle of Prosecco, shortbread biscuits, and milk in the fridge. There was sufficient tea and coffee to last the week! A real home from home with everything you could need for a self catering holiday and some! The views over the countryside from the little Juliet balcony were lovely. Quite a quirky set up having the bedrooms downstairs- but better to enjoy the view. Great safety touches like the baby gates appreciated on the double stairwells and useful to have a high chair and cot available. Really wonderful to be able to take our dogs and be able to step out of the garden straight on to a huge grassed communal area shared with all the other Rosecare Farm cottages. The bedrooms were very comfortable and what a bonus to have three bathrooms. Would have loved to have known more about the history of the place and been able to write comments in a guest book - just a suggestion! Otherwise a guaranteed wonderful stay! Thank you to the owners for sharing their lovely hideaway!
