Bodmin was the former county town of Cornwall for many years and the only Cornish town to be recorded in the Domesday Book, which was lodged in the town's prison during the First World War. The county prison is now a museum and open to the public. It was the first prison in the country to have separate cells. The oldest part of the town is made up of mainly granite buildings clustered around the Bodmin Beacon. The Beacon is a 144 feet tall obelisk in memory of Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert. The area around the Beacon which has woodland and traditional hay meadow was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 1994.
Nearby Bodmin Moor, bisected by the newly expanded A30 is home to one of Cornwall's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Reaching a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwall's highest point. The heather covered granite moorland provides East Cornwall with the most stunning country views and rugged walks. Near Blisland you will find two of Cornwall's stone circles, the Trippet Stones and Stripple Stone Henge and just round the corner, one end of the famous Camel Trail. The 18 mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families.

Fantastically located for access to all the coasts of Cornwall, really friendly and loads of dog friendly beaches, pubs and restaurants. We had a wonderful stay and the cottage had everything we needed. A really good base for exploring Cornwall! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Cornwall is a very special place to us. Excellent cottage, which is home from home. It is down some lanes but then so are most places in Cornwall. Its an ideal location to visit all the well known places. Everything provided and Mark + Wendy are very accomodating, ( even over the duvet ), very tastefully decorated , you could live here. Although we were lucky with the weather we would like to stay here in the Summer, to take advantage of being able go sit outdoors as the light had faded when we got back from exploring.

My husband an dI had never been to Cornwall for a holiday and we found this beautiful house by chance as we were looking for somewhere to take our dog and disappear after our wedding. The location is perfect if you would like to explore Cornwall and the hosts, Mark and Wendy are amazing! So hospitable and welcoming throughout the stay. The house itself is a little paradise to relax and read your book or sit outside and enjoy the rolling hills. The rooms are beautifully decorated and everything that you would need is there. We will defiantly be visiting again.

We had a fantastic week in this lovely cottage. It is decorated beautifully and offers a relaxing base for exploring Cornwall. Wendy and Mark were fantastic hosts and we would love to return in the future.

Our stay at Barn cottage was such a relaxing and refreshing experience. The warm welcome from Wendy and Mark, the owners, put us at ease and was complemented by the standard of the accommodation, which was tastefully finished and in excellent order. Everything we needed was on hand and the Internet connection was very good. The garden was well kept, and provided a restful atmosphere, with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Information was readily available on the places of interest, which was helpful in planning a few excursions...but frankly we preferred to spend the majority of our holiday enjoying our little hideaway in the country at Barn Cottage!

This was our second visit to Barn cottage. The accommodation is spacious and very comfortable plus totally dog friendly for our two beagles. The enclosed walled garden is quiet and secure and very private. The cottage is located close to Bodmin and the A30 allowing easy access to the rest of Cornwall. The owners Mark and Wendy were once again very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

Barn Cottage is absolutely everything we are looking for while staying in Cornwall. Located close to Bodmin it is easy to find, but still with wonderful views of the countryside. The location makes it within easy reach of so many places to the north, south and west coasts. The cottage itself is extremely well set out, comfortable and spacious, equipped with everything you could possibly need during your stay. The garden is a lovely quiet haven with the gentle sound of tricking water from the pond in the background. So restful. Mark and Wendy are perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble. We had a wonderful 2 weeks there and really cannot praise the quality, cleanliness and comfort of the cottage or the care and consideration of Mark and Wendy highly enough.
Guest from Chapmanslade stayed for 7 nights.
Barn cottage was the best self catering accommodation we have stayed in. The cottage was light, spacious and offered everything we needed in the way of facilities. It was in a good location for exploring Cornwall, we explored both the north and south coast line, ample of walks on offer with spectacular views. It was a real pleasure to return to barn cottage at the end of each day to relax in the beautiful and well maintained garden with lovely views of the countryside. The garden was completely enclosed which was great for our dog, and very private. Could not wish for more - would definitely return. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

This is an amazing property in a very peaceful and beautiful location. Wendy and Mark are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We are very grateful that we could bring our 2 golden retrievers to such a high spec cottage and have so much space inside and a wonderful garden outside. We felt "at home" from the start. The local area is very good for dog walking and we enjoyed many riverside walks recommended by our hosts.

We had a great holiday at Summer Barn, Mark and Wendy are fantastic hosts, nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was delightful, to a high standard and very comfortable, all the little touches helped it make a reallynice stay.

This well appointed well equipped barn was beautiful. Bodmin is very convenient as a base to visit either coastline. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Wendy and mark were so pleasant and helpful. Wonderful will certainly be returning.

The cottage has a nice ambience and a wonderful garten. We could us als a big field for our dog. Cottage is good located in Cornwall to both coasts. Host was very helpful.
Guest from Bradford stayed for 7 nights.
Wendy and Mark met us on our arrival, gave us a warm welcome helped with luggage and showed us around the cottage. It was spotless, light, beautifully decorated and extremely well equipped, in fact the best equipped cottage we have stayed in for self catering in Cornwall, plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, all of excellent quality. The bed was very comfortable with an excellent size wardrobe and extra bedding, Wifi is available for those who wish to stay in contact with the outside world, but here who needs it, so restful and that's what a holiday is for. Although the flowers were not out in the garden, it being so early and Spring seeming to be so late this year, is was a delight to sit out in. You do need to take it slowly up the track to the house as it is a little bumpy.
Guest from Sutton Coldfield stayed for 7 nights.
Mark and Wendy were great they allowed our dogs to play with their dogs in their large enclosed field. Although we know the area having lived in wadebridge for 10 yrs we were impressed with how quickly we could get to everywhere we needed to get to in relation to the funeral ceremony and wake. The cottage itself is top knotch and the views lovely just right for a relaxing week break anytime of the year.
Guest from Bristol stayed for 7 nights.
The Barn was a modern build with excellent decor and furnishings. All the gadgetry/equipment was to a high standard. An excellent 1 bed accommodation. The directions were unclear and therefore the property was not easy to find. However the owners were very charming and we lacked for nothing.
I'm sorry that Roger had difficulty finding the property. He was the first person in our two years of operation to point out to us that the directions supplied by the Agency were wrong in part. Property owners do not routinely see what gets sent out. So, I have had them corrected so future guests should have no trouble finding us.
Guest from London stayed for 7 nights.
A perfect stay in every way. Our hosts had thought of every last detail for our comfort and our welcome. They were on hand in case of any issues. Barn Cottage is warm, spacious and extremely well furnished and fitted. It is also very quiet and peaceful, being a mile or so out of the town and well away from traffic. A thoroughly restful and enjoyable stay with every home comfort. Highly recommended.

The garden was lovely a real sun trap. The location of barn cottage was perfect for exploring the whole of Cornwall because it's really in the middle of everywhere! The owners are lovely and were happy to help with anything. If we ever go back to cornwall I'd love to stay at barn cottage again. It was a perfect holiday.
Guest from Haydock stayed for 14 nights.
We have been visiting Cornwall for many years but this has to be one of the most comfortable cottages we have stayed in. We really couldn't fault it. Everything you could possibly need is there and a lot more besides. Such a peaceful garden to sit in when we weren't out and about. We usually stay further south because this is where our favourite places are but the location of this cottage was absolutely perfect. Rural, which we like, but not too many narrow roads. So easy to reach all parts of Cornwall. The owners were so obliging and friendly and we must mention their lovely dogs - especially the mad one! We've already looked up the dates to book for next year. I can see this becoming a regular place to stay.
Guest from Bromley stayed for 7 nights.
This was a fantastic property set in beautiful surroundings. The owners were nearby but left us to relax. The garden is a lovely place to sit any time as it gets the sun until late in the day. Ideal for North and South coasts. A brilliant find!!

We had a lovely time in the cottage. A bit confused when we arrived as cottage advertised as Barn Cottage but signs all said Summer Cottage. Could find no faults with anything! Perfect hosts, perfect location, very clean and luxurious.
Really glad that Karen and Paul (and Alfie the dog!) had a great break. Just to say that Barn Cottage is adjacent to our own property, Summer Barn and is reached via our main driveway.

The Summer Barn was very well equipped, clean and comfortable, it have a lovely decoration and also the mattresses have been perfect. The owners are very kind and give great recommendations, so we are very grateful and want to come back.

It is within easy access of the A30 making exploring the Cornwall so easy. The lovely garden is truly dog friendly being both enclosed & secure. I must mention the lovely owners ( Wendy & Mark ) who were just perfect - very friendly and very helpful without being intrusive and with a strong desire to ensure you have a perfect stay.

Very friendly owners, would recommend to any couple requiring a relaxing break in Cornwall. Ideally placed to visit both the north and south coasts. One of the best places we have stayed.
Guest from Stafford stayed for 4 nights.
Throughly enjoyed our stay here. We took our dog who also loved it. The house was clean and tidy and easily accessible to most places. The only criticism is that we wanted to go out for a meal, and wanted to leave the dog in the crate we had brought with us but we're not allowed.
Guest from Poole stayed for 7 nights.
Could not find fault with this excellent accommodation. Great location, within easy access to lots of Cornwalls quaint villages etc. Accommodation was of the highest quality. Very clean, great facilities, comfortable, very friendly and helpful advice from the owners. Would highly recommend.

Great base location for a holiday in Cornwall, with nothing too far away. Cottage is finished to high standard and has all your home comforts. Our two little Jack Russell's also enjoyed their stay and settled in nicely (which is a big thing for them)! The cottage and garden were very doggy friendly. The owners were fantastic and provided us with lots of tips on where to visit. We loved it and would recommend it to anyone. We will definitely be back and hope to send my parents down as well.
Guest from Abingdon stayed for 7 nights.
We were looking for a property that was close enough to drive to the Atlantic coast, at shorter notice than booking a costal property would allow, and The Barn Cottage provided that at a very competitive rate! Our hosts struck a perfect balance of ensuring our stay was comfortable without being intrusive, and the property itself was finished to a very high standard. We had a lovely stay and would definitely visit again!
Guest from Carrickfergus stayed for 7 nights.
This was a perfect place to get away from the craziness of a wedding. The accommodation was beautiful (exactly how it looks in the pictures), really clean and tidy and the setting was picturesque. Bodmin has all you need and is handy for many Cornwall attractions. Mark and Wendy were really helpful and went the extra mile. We will definitely visit again.

We had a fantastic stay at Barn Cottage, and would highly recommend it. The cottage was in a lovely location and had every thing we could possibly need. It was spotlessly clean and very modern. We had seen the pictures of the cottage and loved the look of it but exceeded our expectations, so good we even stayed in for a couple of the days which unheard of for us, beautiful views and very peaceful, when coming back to Cornwall will stay again.
Guest from Evesham stayed for 7 nights.
Barn Cottage is an immaculate, well appointed and very comfortable cottage in a wonderful position to tour Cornwall. Mark and Wendy were very knowledgeable hosts who were more than kind. We took our two black labs who enjoyed the freedom of the beautiful cottage garden and having a run with the owners dogs too. The kitchen was luxurious and the bed the most comfortable one I've ever slept in! The cottage's location was perfect for day trips out to the numerous beaches and hidden gems of woodlands and forests and we used the owners recommended 'bible' to avoid the hustle and bustle of the tourist routes to find perfect dog friendly beaches and stunning creeks. All in all, we had a wonderful stay and it was a joy to return 'home' every evening and watch the sun dip behind the hills. I would thoroughly recommend Barn Cottage to anyone.
Guest from Littlehampton stayed for 7 nights.
A lovely cottage in the grounds of the owner's house, but you would think you were miles from anyone with the secluded feel of it and the wonderful view. Close to Bodmin yet firmly in the countryside and within a short drive of many of the best attractions. It was bright, airy, spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated - the pictures on the website really did it justice. We had a very happy holiday and would thoroughly recommend Barn Cottage to others.
Guest from Leafield stayed for 4 nights.
We had a wonderful time here, the barn was clean, fresh and the light streamed through the large window. The garden was a great sun trap and we enjoyed the lovely sunsets with a glass of wine. Thank you.
