Occupying a dramatic valley location with one of the most spectacular and beautiful beaches of the Atlantic Coast, Porthtowan has been drawing visitors for years to take advantage of its natural sun trap. A superb location for a holiday to Cornwall with a fine beach and close to good main roads means that you can easily explore the surrounding area on days that are not conducive to sitting on the beach.

Porthtowan has one of Cornwall's finest surfing waves. Producing good waves at all states of the tide, the wave is particularly good in an easterly or south easterly when it really pumps with some lovely hollow barrels. It is not for the faint hearted and beginners should be careful. An excellent surf school operates from the beach. At low tide the beach stretches down to St Agnes Head and Chapel Porth Beach where you will find a lovely National Trust Cafe full of warming hot chocolate and fabulous views. From Porthtowan you are ideally located to reach the many beaches on the North Coast famous for attracting keen surfers and beginners alike.

St Agnes, just to the east of Porthtowan on the North Cornwall coast was one a thriving mining community. St Agnes is now a perfect base for those wishing to walk the North Cornwall Coastline, or for those interested in its copper and tin mining heritage. The village offers many restaurants, cafes and galleries as well as a free museum on the outskirts. St Agnes Beacon is a 328 foot climb, and on a fine day you can see from coast to coast. The view is spectacular and well worth the climb. Wheal Coates tin mine, near Chapel Porth is a prominent feature of the North Coast and one of Cornwall's iconic landmarks, is the beginning of a trail that continues past many other mining works down to Trevellas, the last tin production site in Cornwall.

Wow!

What a fantastic place to stay for a holiday in Cornwall, we loved the house. Whenever I go on holiday I would rather pay slightly more and be guaranteed quality and comfort - Amy's Cottage certainly had both! Fantastic views all around the cottage. The cottage was just like home from home - it had a very well equipped kitchen and all the beds were very comfortable. I usually always take my own pillows on holiday and I can honestly say I never needed them This place is ideal for families and I would recommend it 100% to anyone.

Perfect Holiday!

We have stayed in many cottages over the years and Amy's cottage has been by far the best! We could not fault the cottage or the location. Even the weather was beautiful. The cottage was incredibly spacious and beautifully furnished and perfectly suited to our needs. (A large family gathering, ranging from a 2 year old to a 77 year old plus two dogs!) The welcome pack of tea, coffee, biscuits, wine was much appreciated after a 6 hour journey and the flowers added that extra something. All in all, staying in such a beautiful house, with our favourite beach in the world ( Chapel Porth) on our doorstop made our stay at Amy's Cottage the "Perfect Holiday!"
