The Clay Trails are a popular outing for both locals and visitors alike; suitable for walkers, cyclists, horseriders, mobility scooters and wheelchair users, everyone can enjoy the unique scenery around Cornwall’s china clay mining grounds. A number of routes lead though the around the enormous clay tips standing just outside of St Austell in South East Cornwall. The routes, which range form three to seven miles, are all easily accessible by road and have plenty of parking from which to start your journey.
Trails will take you passed vast blue dams and a number of historically interesting listed buildings which hail from the height of Cornwall’s china clay industry. Fabulous views of St Austell bay can be seen at a number of points along the way; keep a look out for the vast array of plants and wildlife at home on the trail as part of an area project to create new habitats. From beautiful wild flowers to fabulous birds of prey, there is plenty to see and make you feel much more remote than you really are.
