Falmouth is one of Cornwall's most popular places to visit because of it's unique mix of attractions, water sports, beaches, history and place to eat. The National Maritime Museum Cornwall and Pendennis Castle are both high on visitors lists of places to visit and the views from Pendennis on a fine day a truly magical. Falmouth is the sailing capital of Cornwall with its spectacular deep water natural harbour offering a haven for both cruisers and racers. Many events are held through the summer culminating in the famous Falmouth Regatta Week and associated shore side events. You can enjoy these events on foot from this marina based apartment.

As a university town many events are arranged by the students including annual exhibitions of art and photographic work. This is a great property for parents wishing to visit their children as the Tremough campus is just a short drive away.

The beaches at Gyllingvase & Swanpool are coarse sand and are wonderfully sunny south facing spots. You can ride the ferry to beautiful St Mawes for the day or take a delightful trip around the estuary stopping off at either Trelissick Gardens or Smugglers Cottage for a cream tea! There are plenty of places to eat & drink in Falmouth and Rick Stein has his Fish Restaurant & Oyster Bar at Discovery Quay adding to the superb mix across the town.

Quiet comfort

In a lovely rural location. Easy access to Truro and Falmouth. Very comfortable and has all space needed for 3 couples with a bathroom each and spacious rooms. Shame that we could only use the outside space once due to poor weather, but was a real suntrap. Would highly recommend.

A very high standard holiday home in a lovely location

Whim Cottage has been renovated to a very high standard and, as such, makes for a wonderful place to stay. The garden is lovely and the furniture, fixtures and fittings are very comfortable and of good quality. The location is perfect for exploring the Falmouth/Truro area with several lovely footpaths in the area. Highly recommended.

Relaxing stay in a well equipped cottage

We visit this part of Cornwall most years to catch up with friends, this has been one of our best stays. The cottage was well equipped, which allowed us to prepare a meal for 9! The beds and sofa were comfortable and the garden was lovely for the children to play in and for the older members to relax in and chill. The coastal walks are lovely in this area, although there are some steep hills. The Pandora Inn is a wonderful place to have lunch or tea by the creek, the food is very good and they are very flexible for people with special dietary requirements. When we return to the Mylor area in the future we will look to see if this cottage is free first.

Fantastic quiet retreat.

Loved it from walking in the door, homely, clean and everything you needed. Personal touches and essentials like tea, coffee sugar, milk were perfect after the long drive. Location is great and not to far from the local pub which was pricey and little to fancy for our taste but late arrival 1st day needs must. Would highly recommend. We will be back.

Whim Cottage and the Fal Estuary

Whim Cottage is well-placed for exploring the beautiful region around the Fal Estuary. It is close to the useful general stores/fish shop/paper shop at Mylor Bridge and within walking distance of the famous and picturesque Pandora Inn. Mylor yachting marina and harbour nearby has good cafes and restaurants and it possible to walk from there around the coast path to Flushing. The gardens at Trelissick, Trebah and Glendurgan are superb in the springtime and are reachable by car. The National Maritime Museum at Falmouth and Pendennis Castle are well worth visiting. Further afield, the Roseland peninsula, St. Mawes (including its castle) and St Anthony's Head are all superbly situated. All around the Fal Estuary there are superb coastal walks which should not be missed. Do enjoy all that this area has to offer.

A delightful week despite some awful weather

Whim Cottage is a delightful retreat and perfect for those interested in walking and exploring Cornwall. We visited several of the main attractions the region offers and all were easily accessible. The cottage itself was perfect for the dogs and the garden ideal for them. The accommodation has that cottage feel but has been renovated to a high standard and the 2 upstairs bedroom are of excellent size. The only negative were several (three) dogs roaming nearby that would stroll up to the door and set our dogs off and one large black dog who decided our car was an ideal toilet spot for the week!

Reply from Hilary and Paul Parkinson

Thank you for your review. We were so pleased you enjoyed the cottage and the location. The walks and views are amazing and we love being here. I am sorry nearby farm dogs were a negative. We will keep your review in mind and may make adjustments at the entrance to the cottage. Kind regards Hilary and Paul Parkinson

Great cottage, great location, great dog-friendly local pub

A well-equipped, clean, comfy cottage that was even better than it looked on the website. Our friends arrived just before us and were greeted with a warm fire, fresh flowers on the kitchen table, milk in the fridge and some lovely local buns. The Pandora Inn is dog friendly and just a ten/fifteen walk away - very cosy and great menu, and a key reason we choose Whim Cottage so that we had somewhere we could walk to and eat with the pooch in tow. Lots of lovely areas to explore, right from the doorstep our just a short drive away. All in all, a fantastic week.

A Late Break for a Week in Cornwall

What an excellent holiday rental, we had four adults and two children and not forgetting our 10 year old Cocker Spanial all arriving at Whim Cottage on Friday 25th September 2015 for a week. The cottage is adjoined to the owners own home and in turn to a structure which houses the Whim, originally operated by three oxen employed through the Whim and its associated equipment to thresh cereal crops. Then the hamlet has a large farm which is owned by the owners parents. The farm is run by two brothers who with some state of the art equipment , produce championship malted barley for the brewing industry. Back to the cottage, when you step into the cottage you can immediately see that everything is fitted to a high standard, each bedroom has an en-suite or a bathroom, each bedroom is a double bedroom. The ground floor of the cottage has one bedroom and an ensuite and then there is the kitchen, diner and lounge area. Again the associated equipment is totally functional and of a high standard. A range cooker with a halogen glass cooking surface, masses of storage,an modern washing machine with a dryer built in, a microwave oven and a breakfast bar, finally a thoroughly modern refrigerator and freezer. The lounge has a "Smart" television and DVDs player and there is very good Wi-Fi service across the whole cottage shortly to be upgraded to fibre technology. The garden is great and is satisfactorily landscaped with a patio seating area. The cottage enjoys underfloor heating on the ground floor and radiators for the first floor. Heat is supplied by a ground source heating system, in addition there is abundant hot water to cover all needs. Off road parking is to the front of the cottage and could accommodate three vehicles if parked with care. We were lucky in the extreme with a week of warm clear weather. The walks are great with views to die for over the Fal Estuary and surrounding valleys and hills. There is a village close by with local facilities, including pubs, a shop, butcher, fishmonger etc. The surrounding area offers many attractions including quaint harbours, sailing, canoeing, river trips, walking and shops with many restaurants in town providing food to suit all tastes. In all Whim Cottage is very good indeed and would suit any family indeed. I personally commend it for a great holiday location.

Happy and enjoyable stay at Whim cottage

Beautiful, well equipped cottage exactly matching description. Ideal enclosed garden just right for dogs. Nice outdoor seating area which we were unable to make full use of because weather was n' t good enough. Lovely bedrooms and comfortable beds. Bathroom and ensuites pristine and modern. The kitchen and dining area was compact and pleasant. The sofas, however, were not very comfortable for relaxing in especially for older people, and after long walks we needed somewhere comfortable to sit down. For us , this was the only real down side to an otherwise very enjoyable stay.

Reply from Hilary and Paul Parkinson

Thank you for your review. We were glad to read you enjoyed your stay but we were disappointed that you did not find the sofas comfortable. We did choose them with comfort in mind and felt that John Lewis sofas were a good choice. We have been pleased with them and we're so sorry you were not. A great two weeks.

We will have very fond memories of our stay at Whim Barn. It was a great base for exploring the Cornish coastline, with a good harbour (Mylor) nearby with boats for hire, together with the village shop and butchers which were really handy in prep for the BBQ's we had! The Pandora Inn is also a must, within walking distance, good food and a lovely setting by the river. The cottage itself offered everything we could wish for in a home from home, and we were genuinely sad to leave. That said, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a great place to holiday.

Wonderful stay!

Whim Cottage is a delightful place to stay. It is spotlessly clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The cottage has been beautifully restored, with lots of very impressive green credentials. It is a great idea to be able to rent just the downstairs of the cottage at a reduced rate, as you can enjoy all the facilities and space as a couple that you would get as a larger group. Hilary and Paul are great hosts, not in your face, but there if you need them, and always concerned for your comfort. Hilary was very concerned in case we were cold, as she had switched over to the summer quilt halfway through our holiday and they very kindly returned my camera charger, which I had left behind! The location of Whim Cottage is also great. We were a little concerned on first arriving that it may be too remote, but we couldn't have been more wrong. It was quiet and peaceful, but within easy reach of all places of interest. The walks from the cottage are fantastic with beautiful views, which was ideal for us with our dog, and we took full advantage of being able to walk to some great dog-friendly places to eat, including the Pandora Inn, the Lemon Arms and Mylor Café. Overall we had a wonderful holiday, and I hope that we will be able to return, not only to this part of Cornwall, but also to Whim Cottage.

Lovely location

The cottage is beautiful and in a very lovely spot. Owners are very friendly. We found the downstairs bed so uncomfortable, it's a double -and my husband is 6ft5- and the attached bathroom so impractical as my husband had to stand sideways to clean his teeth and could not fit in the shower, we came home a day early. Shame, I think it' would ok to restrict use of the upstairs if you are giving £60 discount for reduced occupancy but we would have rather paid full price and had some comfort. But it would be a fantastic cottage if you had access to it all and someone smaller was using the downstairs bedroom.

Reply from Hilary and Paul Parkinson

Thank you for your review. We were pleased you enjoyed the location and loved the cottage, but were very sorry to read that the downstairs bedroom did not suit you and your husband. If you had mentioned your discomfort when we met on the Sunday we feel sure we could have helped you to have a full and comfortable stay. As you suggest, booking the whole cottage would have given you more choice, as upstairs the beds are a king size bed and one can be a super king which may well have suited a guest of 6'5". The bathrooms are also bigger upstairs, as shown in the details and on the floor plan. You were kind enough to say you would recommend the cottage, we hope that if you were to come again you will let us recommend the super king double bed for your stay.

A very comfortable barn

We were a family group of four adults and a Cocker Spaniel, who already knew the area well and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Whim Cottage. It was a very comfortable base for enjoying the wonderful creek walks and Falmouth on the doorstep, as well as favourites further afield - Kynance Cove, The Lizard, Cadgwith, St. Ives, Trelissick, Truro and Fowey. We recommend the walk from the barn, around the creeks to Flushing, then over to Falmouth by ferry for the more energetic. The Pandora Inn, a short walk away, is a must - for coffee, sundowners, dinner or all three! Mylor Bridge is a lovely village close by, which caters well for daily needs - groceries, papers, fresh fruit and vegetables and fresh fish. A few minutes by car, or a short walk down a footpath opposite the cottage. The barn was very clean and is thoughtfully equipped, it was lovely to have a bathroom each and we all found the beds really comfortable. It is unusual to have the choice of summer and winter duvets! The garden was well looked after, grass cut, fenced and so dog safe, washing line and a lovely seating area with a wooden table and chairs. We fitted three cars on the drive, without any problems. A big thank you to the owners, from us all. Heather from Dorchester

A perfect family holiday home

We have had many holidays in Cornwall, but Whim Cottage is by far the best accommodation that we have ever stayed in - beautifully furnished, and incredibly well equipped, the cottage is also located in a perfect place if you want to be able to access great walks, views and a super pub without having to drive. The beds were the most comfortable that we have ever stayed in, and there is even a luxury hand wash and hand cream in each of the three bathrooms. It was the little touches like that, which made our stay so pleasant - the kitchen is so well equipped that we were able to cook a Sunday roast and make a steamed syrup pudding from scratch, while reading the papers on a wet Sunday afternoon! I would definitely recommend this cottage for families. Thank you!

The owners have considered every need in equipping the property, from an abundance of luxuriously soft towels to every cooking utensil you could ever use! The accommodation is suitable for all ages - the three generations that were present during our stay all loved the property and were well catered for. The rural location of the property provides the perfect base to explore the surrounding area, where you can be as adventurous or as leisurely as you choose. We booked Whim Cottage on a 'whim' and we are so glad that we did. We definitely recommend a stay in this hidden gem of a property. Fiona Sheridan
