Offering a warm welcome and affordable holiday, Chycarne is a traditional Cornish farm, built in the 17th century and situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty and the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. South facing and set in six acres of grounds with truly magnificent panoramic views over the surrounding unspoilt countryside and beyond to Mounts Bay from the Lizard to Penzance. Nestling on the side of Tregonning Hill, Chycarne Farm is a unique and beautiful retreat from the rest of the world. Each season has something to offer here. Being so far south, the warm sun and mild climate produce sub-tropical vegetation. Wild flowers grow in profusion along the stone wall hedges in Spring and Summer. In the Autumn and Winter the heathers, gorse and bracken form a carpet of colour on the hillsides. Surrounded by peaceful gardens and paddocks, where you can sit and relax and enjoy the unique atmosphere and views.
Trenance at Chycarne Farm is a ground floor, one bedroom cottage with country and distant sea views, situated in the middle of a block of three cottages. Fully refurbished in 2013, it is presented to high standards and has the benefit of a 5' double bed in the bedroom. Access to the cottage is via one step.
Ground Floor only: Kitchen, living area with a table and 2 chairs and a comfortable leather sofa, modern fitted shower room with WC, bedroom with 5' double oak framed bed with fitted wardrobe and dressing table.
Exterior: Garden furniture is available immediately outside the cottage and in addition you have access to the shared grounds of Chycarne, including a giant chess set and play equipment for younger children. The views from around the site are dramatic. There is an enclosed dog walking field on site.

Praa Sands in the South West of Cornwall is located between Helston and Penzance. The town contains many facilities including a shop, pub, post office and Praa Sands Gold Club. The nearest large supermarket is Morrisons towards Penzance. The extensive beach stretching from Rinsey Head to Hoe Point is extremely popular with the whole family, Prussia Cove, Perranuthnoe & Marazion are the nearest beaches, all within a few minutes drive. When the North Coast is 'blown out' you will find the surfers flock to Praa Sands for its powerful waves coming straight in from the Atlantic Ocean. Just inland from the beach is Pengersick Castle which dates back to the Bronze Age. Nearby Helston is famous for its Floral Dance in May, a day when the whole town stops and dresses up for the days many dances through the streets. From Penzance you can take the Scillonian for a day trip to the picturesque Isles of Scilly, well worth a visit if you have never been. 10 minutes down the road lies Marazion famous for St Michaels Mount, home to a medieval castle and a working local community. St Michaels Mount is accessible by causeway at low tides, or by boat. The castle is leased from the National Trust by the St Aubyn family who reside at the property maintaining and working the grounds.
Chycarne is only 1.5 miles from the beautiful beach and surf at Praa Sands and about the same distance from Rinsey's rocky cove (NT). Prussia Cove film set for 'Ladies in Lavender' and Godolphin House (NT) of 'Poldark' fame, are nearby. Four miles away is the market town of Helston, full of Cornish history and tradition, with it's Furry dance in early May. For children of all ages there is Flambards Theme Park next to Culdrose Air Base famous for many air sea rescue missions. There are sights to be seen around Goonhilly Earth station where the large dish Arthur is now a listed building. Try your hand at riding a 2 wheeled Segway. These together with the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek and the nearby coastal village of Porthleven provide any holidaymaker with a wealth of interesting visits. Only 7.5 miles away is the lively town of Penzance where trips to the Isles of Scilly can be taken by helicopter or ferry. St Ives is only 14 miles away on the north coast with its beautiful bays and artistic areas.
Chycarne is central for the areas and villages of the Lizard, Helford, Land's End and Mousehole. Facilities for golf, sailing, course and sea fishing are all available within two miles. You can take country and coastal walks or visit local country pubs for well priced meals or shop in the local super stores at Helston and Penzance. There are a wealth of gardens to explore. The mines at Lelant, Geevor, Bottalack and Poldark are a short drive away. The Minack Theatre and Porthcurno beach are well worth a visit. There are world famous art galleries at St Ives and Newlyn.

Compact but comfortable barn in a good location for West Cornwall. Very quiet and peaceful. There was everything that we needed for the week with only very small negatives: The bed is good but the quilt and bedding were a bit uncomfortable and could do with upgrading. To have towels supplied (within the price) would be an improvement rather than having to bringing ones own.

This very small cottage was our first barn conversion (out of over 30 cottages we have used) so perhaps they are mostly small but we were really quite shocked on first entering the main living area. The photographs on the web-site were very distorted making it appear much larger. The bedroom and shower room were fine, the size we were expecting. The small living area was a pity as everything else about this cottage was perfect. The shower was probably the best we have experienced, easy to operate with a strong supply of water. The large bed was very comfortable. The TV was good & easy to operate (though you had to be a bit too close because of the small room). The farm location was lovely as were the farm owners. There was absolutely no noise, as quiet as you could imagine and the views over Mounts Bay were spectacular. All the fittings were immaculate, windows opened easily and the cooker worked well. One minor problem was the car park which was rather too far from the cottage. As we have a lot of gear to be loaded and unloaded each day this was irritating but we found the best approach was to temporarily leave the car in the Reception Car Parking area each day for loading & unloading. You could take your car right to the cottage on arrival & departure for unloading and loading but could not park it there. We have found that some Cornwall cottages become outrageously expensive in mid summer. One we have regularly used during March to May charges nearly three times as much in July as in March taking unreasonable advantage of the school holidays. Trenance was very reasonably priced for a June booking. We were kindly shown around the adjoining cottage and found that had a much longer living room (and a bath) so we will probably book that one next time. They also have other cottages but if the pics on the web-site are so distorted how can you decide which one is the largest? Approximate measurements on the layout diagrams on the excellent Cornwalls Holidays web-site would help.

A warm welcome from Pauline on arrival followed by a walk through the beautiful cottage and a walk around the farm. Whilst the owners live on site their presence is unobtrusive but there if you need them for anything. The site is about a mile from the main road along narrow country lanes but the view is stunning and well worth the manoeuvring!! If you're looking for some peace and quiet then this is the place for you, surrounded by fields and well tended flower beds closer to home. The cottage was clean, comfortable and has all the basics.........a nice touch was a vase of fresh flowers on the dining table alongside a pack of biscuits and the makings of a cuppa. Electricity and wi-fi (which was relatively fast and secure) are included in the price. The shower is more powerful than it looks but you'll need to give the water a 'boost' in advance of using it. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven/hob and there's also a microwave, no dishwasher so I tended to save washing up for once a day after dinner. The Freeview TV was more than adequate for my needs when not enjoying the evening birdsong (look out for the birds of prey). Plenty of hanging space for clothes in the bedroom (coat hangers provided), large comfortable bed and a potted plant arrangement on the back window sill (another nice touch). I was lucky enough to have glorious Cornish sunshine during my stay but can imagine that if the suns not out the cottage may feel a little chilly, there is a night storage heater and a heater in the bedroom as well as a throw on the back of the sofa so thought has gone into keeping you warm! This break ticked all of the boxes for me, providing the peace and quiet to recharge my batteries says well as being close enough to some spectacular places to visit. Would recommend Trenance and the farm and would hope to return in the future.

We thoroughly enjoyed our very peaceful and comfortable stay. The owners were extremely welcoming and helpful. There was a lovely view of the countryside with the sea in the background. We will definitely return.

The property was very clean. The level of equipment in the property was barely adequate and the minimum you would expect. For example a toaster that will not take two full size slices is not really a toaster. The property was very compact with in particular a lack of places to put stuff in the bathroom. Whilst the bed was comfortable, the plastic matress cover made for very uncomfortable nights sleep. We stay regularly in Cornwall and therefore have plenty of other properties to compare this one with. All have had a better level of equipment in terms of quantity and quality. For example we like to drink tea from a tea cup not a coffee mug. It is these small things that make you want to return. These are a few of the welcoming packages we have had at other Cornwall places we have stayed. A proper pint of milk in the fridge not little cafe cartons of UHT. Quite often a cream tea waiting for you on your arrival. For these reasons we can only say it was ok, not a bad experience but wouldn't want to make us want to come back. Also I have never had a damage deposit held against my credit card in all the years I have been coming to Cornwall. Breakage is a fact of life in self catering so this deposit seems unwarranted.
We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at Trenance. We are a little surprised because of the comments we have received from other guests who have stayed giving it an excellent rating. But I just wanted to address your comments about a security deposit. You might not have ever had one taken in a visit to Cornwall, but it is our policy to do so (which interestingly is almost universally done across the rest of the world) in order to protect our clients property from a small number of individuals who have little respect self catering units. Whilst we are extremely thankful that you treat properties with high regard, there have been a number of unfortunate incidents which cause this situation to now have to be implemented.

Small but very pleasant. Great location off the busy main roads but easy access to all major tourist spots. Fantastic views and lovely outside seating areas.

The cottages are in a fabulous location, very peaceful but only a short drive from the lovely beach at Pra sands. My husband and I stayed in Trenance cottage which has been recently refurbished to an excellent standard. All cleaning products were supplied along with iron/ironing board/hairdryer and Wifi, and there is a separate laundry room. The owners were very friendly :-) and after having a fabulous relaxed week we are looking forward to staying again, despite the 7+ hours car journey to get there,

We had a very good fort nights holiday at Chycarne Farm, staying in Trenance. The owners couldn't be more helpfull and keep the cottages in excellent condition. We have been having holidays here for over the last twenty years and still enjoy coming back. We always recommend Chycarne to family and friends , who also have had holidays here as well. We have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.

We stayed for one week at Trenance at Chycarne Farm and it was perfect:a clean, very comfortable and modern house in a quiet peaceful surrounding with a nice sea view. It's around ten minutes to the next beach with the car.
Guest from Tavistock stayed for 7 nights.
Trenance was ideal for our needs being compact and all on one level. The owners were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The facilities were excellent and it was lovely to be able to sit outside and have a meal al fresco. Being only one mile from the main A394 it was very easy to access.
Guest from Tickenham, Clevedon stayed for 4 nights.
On arrival to the cottage, the reception was sign posted easily and a warm welcome was received gratefully. We were shown to our cottage and how to work everything and the other facilities on site. The kitchen was easy to use and cleaning products were provided. Most utensils and crockery were stocked. The bedroom was a lovely size and the bed was very comfy. The bathroom was lovely and clean too. Electricity is on a meter that was stocked with £5 to use. We were steady with what we were using but used about £7 over 4 nights. Overall the stay at the cottage was lovely and we shall definatly recommend this to friends and shall hopefully be back again.
