Tor Farm is located a short distance from both Camelford and Wadebridge and only a few miles from the A39 'Atlantic Highway' which means you can easily access the whole of Cornwall from this quite spectacular yet peaceful location. It is situated next to the Owner's house on a lovely small holding in the parish of Advent with dramatic moorland all around. Both Roughtor and Brown Willy (Cornwall's highest point) are nearby and offer amazing walking. The barn is an ideal base for walkers and cyclists and there are footpaths which radiate directly from the farm. It is also fantastic for the less energetic who can relax and soak up the peace and tranquility of this beautiful rural location.

The barn itself is designed in reverse style with the bedroom on the ground floor and the living area at first floor level. There is plenty of space for a cot in the bedroom. A set of external steps lead to the enclosed garden area where you can enjoy a BBQ surrounded by the moorland countryside.

Please note that whilst the capacity of the barn is 4, it is really best suited to no more than 3 adults as the sofa bed is the only additional bed and the dining table only seats 2 people.

Accommodation
Ground Floor: Double bedroom (with 4'6" bed) with en-suite shower room and WC.
First Floor: Open plan lounge with comfortable chairs, double sofa bed and kitchen area with a bijou dining table. Door opening to the little balcony with steps down to the rear garden area.
Exterior: Small enclosed garden with external furniture, with BBQ facilities.

Facilities & Services
Heating is via panel heaters throughout the property. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven & hob, kettle, toaster, fridge with ice compartment and microwave. In the living area there is a digital TV with DVD player, a CD & Radio. There is an iron & ironing board available. WiFi is available at the property, but due to the remoteness and speed of the line, video streaming is not normally possible.

Miscellaneous
Electricity, heating, bed linen & towels are all included. There are parking facilities for 1 vehicle. There is a cot & high chair available. Up to 2 well behaved dogs are welcome at Tor Barn at the additional charge of £25 per dog per week. Sorry, but there is no smoking in the barn.

General Booking Information
Arrival / Departure is normally a Sunday.
Short breaks are available during quieter periods.
£100 pre-authorised to your credit or debit card as a security deposit is required.

Advent is approximately 2.5 miles south of Camelford. Camelford is an ancient town situated on the River Camel. Its name was believed to have been a contraction of 'Camalanford' from 'cam' meaning crooked, 'alan' meaning beautiful and ford. The town lies on the edge of Bodmin Moor and is about 6 miles inland from the rugged North Cornwall coast. Legend has it that King Arthur and his Knights are part of cornish history, and that Camelford was the 'Camelot' of legend.

Bodmin Moor, bisected by the newly expanded A30 is home to one of Cornwall’s Areas of Oustanding Natural Beauty. Reaching a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwall’s highest point, the heather covered granite moorland provides East Cornwall with the most stunning country views and rugged walks. Near Blisland you will find two of Cornwall’s stone circles, the Trippet Stones and Stripple Stone Henge and just round the corner, one end of the famous Camel Trail. The 18 mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families. The National Lobster Hatchery at Padstow neighbours Rick Stein’s empire on the North Coast.

The Bodmin and Wenford Railway, the first steam operated railway in Cornwall, takes in 13 miles of countryside. Also just outside Bodmin is the Camel Valley Vineyard who have been winning awards for their home grown wine for the past 20 years. The National Trust have three properties nearby: Lanhydrock House, Trerice and Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps. Slightly further afield is the Eden Project in St Austell.

Camelford is a lovely, old town situated on the River Camel between Wadebridge and Bude approximately 6 miles from the wild north Cornish coast. The name has nothing whatsoever to do with camels but comes from the word 'Camalanford', 'cam' meaning crooked 'alan' meaning beautiful and ford. Camelford used to be on an old medieval trading route and was granted a royal charter by Richard Earl of Cornwall. The town itself is steeped in legend and is a wonderful place to stay as a base for touring, swimming, fishing and walking holidays.

Wadebridge, once a Market Town, is now more widely known as being part of The Camel Trail, the cycle route out to Padstow from the depths of Bodmin Moor along the old tram way route. You can hire a bike at the start of the trail and cycle to Padstow, now famous for being home to Rick Stein’s The Seafood Restaurant, amongst other businesses the celebrity chef owns in the town. From Padstow you could take a boat trip across the Camel Estuary to Rock, and lounge on the beautiful beach that stretches all the way around to Daymer Bay.

The Royal Cornwall Show ground at Wadebridge hosts the county show every June, come rain or shine, and is opened each year by a member of the Royal Family. Cornish Farmers have had to diversify in recent years but the show has kept it’s traditional roots with steam engines being shown next to the shiny new high-tech tractors. It's not every day you get to see formation JCB digger dancing in the main ring.

A perfect week away!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Tor barn, it's in a very peaceful setting surrounded by open countryside, yes the lanes leading up to it are a little narrow, but we didn't find this a problem as it's so quiet you don't really meet any traffic! The downstairs bedroom in the stone barn stayed lovely and cool, which was a relief as we were lucky enough to visit during a mini heatwave! The bed was very comfortable and we found everything we needed for our stay. There is a lovely little enclosed garden which was great for our two dogs and the owners were very friendly and made us feel most welcome, thank you Liza and Richard.

A lovely stay

The barn is very well layed out and had everything we required. We liked having access from the living area to our own private garden where our dog could safely go on her own with no worries about her getting out. It is a very peaceful place and we found it quiet and secluded. The owners live on the site and although they were there to welcome us and make sure we had all we required we never really saw them again unless we needed to. From our point of view the roads around the barn were very narrow and as we used the car every day this was a bit fraught. However there were lots of footpaths around and some went right from the front door so there were local walks to do. The weather was very good and we had a lovely time.

Cosy, quiet getaway.

Beautifully cosy barn conversion on edge of Bodmin surrounded by fields. Just the sound of wildlife and neighbouring sheep who wandered up to our window in the morning to say hello! Very welcome basket with local produce and goodies to start our holiday off.Owner Liza very helpful and friendly giving us advice on local walks and sharing her knowledge of area. Very well equipt accommodation, fantastic shower room, very comfy bed. Cupdoard full of board games, DVDs etc. Kitchen came with everything we needed, cooker, coffee maker, toaster, microwave and lots more. Will definately stay again but for much longer next time.

A splendid stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our time inTor Barn. The place was a perfect rural idyll; our hosts, Liza and Richard were most pleasant, and helpful. Their very useful photo directions ensured that we found the place easily. The flowers, welcome basket of goodies, provided a great start to our time there, and the hot tub was fantastic! This place has so much to recommend it; we would love to return!

Honeymoon at Tor Barn

We booked a last minute stay at Tor Barn for our honeymoon in Cornwall. Liza and Richard were wonderful hosts and made us feel welcome and accommodated during our our stay. We were looking for a peaceful hideaway and Tor Barn is just that! From the fabulous views, the local surf spots and amazing nearby beaches, the above and beyond welcoming hosts, clean and comfortable accommodation, Snow White and her dwarfs (the resident lambs) and the nightly hot tubs watching the sun set. We had the BEST time and would highly recommend Tor Barn to everyone!

our stay at Tor Barnmarch 2016

Our hosts at the tor barn Richard and Lisa made us very welcome, we did have trouble finding, but after telephoning Lisa she came to find us, which was very good of her. Great location if you want peace and quiet, nice pub 10 minutes down the road to eat for meals which Lisa recommended, sunday carvery was excellent. On our arrival Lisa showed us around and also gave us a welcome pack which was very much appreciated and a lovley thought. One of the minor things was inadequate heating in the building in March, we did speak to Richard who said he was going to improve the heating, as they had only taken over the property in november. The hot tub is located outside, but with the outside tempature only being 4-5 degrees it was too cold for us to venture out, which was a shame as it did look very inviting. We did enjoy our stay and would reccommed

A perfect and peaceful base from which to explore this lovely part of the country

Tor Barn is perfectly placed to not only provide a peaceful retreat away from it all, but also to explore the lovely Cornish countryside and coast, as well as the lively towns nearby. Beautiful moorland walks are on your doorstep, while stunning coastal walking is only a short drive away. We also enjoyed visits to Wadebridge, Padstow, Boscastle and Bude. Liza and Richard were fantastic hosts - we had a lovely warm welcome and they were keen to ensure that we had everything that we needed. We would not hesitate to recommend Tor Barn and hope to visit again soon. All in all we had a wonderful, relaxing holiday and left feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.

Short stay at Tor Barn

Tor Barn is in the courtyard of the farm and main house. Upstairs is comfortable and lovely to see cows and sheep in the adjacent field. The kitchen is basic and is suited to microwave meals and making snacks. Downstairs is the sleeping area, the bed is uncomfortable and allows for rolling, sagging in the middle. The room smells damp and is cold. Cannot open the window as the field adjacent is at window level, with animals free room to roam, so could not be left open. Nice area for walking on the moor and surrounding area.

Reply from Helen

Thank you for your review. We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. We have never had these issues raised in the ten years that we have been letting our barn and we are obviously surprised and concerned. The kitchen is fully equipped for everyday cooking with a full size cooker and all the necessary equipment for preparing and cooking meals. The bed is pocket sprung with a memory foam top and to date everyone has said how comfortable it is. We do however, appreciate that everyone is different and we cannot possibly supply a mattress to suit everyone's needs. The barn is fitted with electric radiators in every room all of which are free and we have had no complaints, even in the coldest winter months. The barn is situated on a farm and there are occasionally animals in the fields. This has never prevented anyone from opening the windows and it is perfectly safe to do so. It is our aim to make our guests stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible to that end we are always there to meet and greet you. We provide a welcoming cream tea and ask that if you have any concerns, questions or advice that you are free to ask us at any time during your stay.

Review of Tor Barn - a good place to stay

Tor Barn is an excellent place to stay if you like peace and quiet and beautiful scenery. The Barn is adequately equipped for everyday use and the furniture is clean and comfortable. Bed also comfortable with a modern en suite shower room. We particularly enjoyed watching the horses from the lounge window and as the Barn is split level we were able to take advantage of the lovely views. The only improvement we felt could be made would be the provision of wifi access.

Great Accomodation, Lovely Location.

We had a great time at Tor Barn and would thoroughly recommend it. The barn has been lovingly restored with real attention to detail. The location isn't really walking distance to any of the towns but only a short drive in the car. Danny and Helen were fantastic hosts and really made us feel welcome. The weather was also on our side, who needs to go abroad for the sun? x

Great accommodation but access is difficult

The barn is set in a very beautiful location and it is very comfortable, fresh and functional with information about the area available, but viewing the area from the barn itself is limited. The information on walks immediately surrounding the barn is more difficult to locate, and after 2 attempts to find a local map in the town we gave up and didn't see the area around the barn at all. We were unhappy with the poor state of the farm driveway. The only thing I would suggest is that people ought to be alerted to its condition before they book. I think that's only fair to give people a choice of whether they want to take their vehicle over a road in a poor condition or not! Good access to the rest of Cornwall from the barn and lovely service from the owners.

A comfortable cottage on the edge of Bodmin Moor.

A comfortable cottage in a quiet location with impressive views. Ideally situated for accessing Bodmin Moor and also the North Cornwall coast. The landlady was on hand to answer queries and resolve difficulties and yet did not intrude. The visitors' book could be improved by adding information about local walks. The bathroom was rather cramped and could be improved by adding hooks to the door as well as shelving for toiletries.

Peace and Quite

We booked at short notice and were impressed with the accommodation. Helen and Dan were very welcoming and gave us a brief overview of the area. The barn is ideal for a peaceful and quite break. There are a variety of walks in the area of different lengths to suit most people. Instructions on how to get there were very good but be prepared to meet vehicles on the very narrow roads.
