The Threshing Barn is a beautiful restoration and conversion of a historic agricultural building. Located in a really peaceful area of rolling countryside, this stunning holiday home is the perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy exploring this fascinating part of Cornwall. The location is deceptively close to both the north and south Cornish coasts. The golden sand and superb surfing at Porthtowan is just 7 miles away and the fantastic water sports facilities around Falmouth and Mylor are just a short drive. There is also a pub in the village of Frogpool which is 1/2 a mile away.

Restored during 2010, this wonderful barn offers very comfortable reverse level accommodation with 2 bedrooms sleeping up to four people on the ground floor and a large first floor living space with a beamed roof and finished with rustic oak flooring. Exposed stonework on the walls provides a real sense of atmosphere. A wood burning stove keeps things really cosy during the winter months.

Accommodation
Ground Floor: One double bedroom (5' bed) with en-suite shower room and wardrobe. A second twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom and wardrobe.
First Floor: Open plan living area and kitchen.
Exterior: The patio has external table & chairs with a BBQ. The Bullpen: A great games room with table tennis table and storage facilities for bikes, kayaks and wetsuits.

Facilities & Services
Heating is via electric & night storage units and the wood burning stove. The initial basket of logs is provided, you can then purchase additional baskets from the owner if you wish. The kitchen is fully fitted with an electric oven and hob, a microwave, fridge / freezer, dishwasher & washing machine.

Miscellaneous
Electricity, heating, bed linen & towels are all included but you will need to provide your own beach towels. There is a carport available for parking your vehicle. The area around the barn and the cottage are for pedestrians only, adding to the safety and seclusion of the site. One well behaved dog will be permitted at a small additional cost of £25 per dog / per week although please remember that you cannot leave dogs unattended in the cottage alone. Regrettably no smoking is allowed. There is a cot & high chair available.

Tin - the powerhouse of Cornwall's industrial past. Oak wooded, heather topped valleys with crystal streams once throbbed with the racket of tin streaming - winning precious metals. Engine houses and stacks bear stark, romantic testament to a heritage borne of the bravery and determination of generations of miners and Bal maidens. The area of Mid Cornwall, south west from Truro and only a short drive inland from Falmouth is full of this industrial heritage. The Victorian towns of Camborne and Redruth - both produced world-class inventors and engineers. Camborne's Richard Trevithick created the world's first steam-powered road engine in 1801. His achievements are celebrated at Camborne's annual Trevithick Day celebrations in April. You can follow in the footsteps of Cornwall's 18th Century tin miners on the atmospheric tour of the Poldark Mine just north of Helston.

Nearby is Stithians Lake, for fishing, sailing, sailboarding and recently the stunning wake-boarding championships. For views of the whole region take the roads to Carn Brea or Carn Marth above Camborne. From here you can see St Ives, St Michael's Mount, Falmouth and east to Clay Country. Near here is the Great Flat Lode Trail through the mines and high moors. These days, most of the mining has disappeared, but it is still a fascinating area to explore and is steeped in history. A highlight is to hire a bicycle and ride along the old mineral tramway now called the Bissoe Trail from Devoran to Portreath or the North Coast.

Cusgarne lies in a sheltered valley on the edge of the famous tin and copper heritage mining area between Redruth, Truro and Falmouth. Here in the past were many industries; flour mills, wool, paint, linen and candle factories to name a few. This lovely sheltered valley, where many rare plants grow, is a delightful place to visit with something for everyone to enjoy.

The harbour town of Falmouth is within a short drive with a number of attractions for the visitor. There is the fascinating National Maritime Museum or you can take a boat trip around the spectacular Carrick Roads or sample the stylish Rick Stein's Fish & Chip Restaurant or Oyster Bar. The Helford River and Lizard Peninsula are also within easy reach.

The city of Truro is only a 7 mile drive to the north east and has a wide selection of good shopping including a Tescos, Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer and many other high street outlets. There is also a cinema and a great selection of restaurants, pubs & cafes. The resort of Newquay is about 12 miles to the north with its spectacular surf beaches at Fistral & Watergate Bay. Jamie Oliver's "Fifteen" restaurant is located here. Padstow, with its fine selection of restaurants influenced by Rick Stein is just over 20 miles. Harbourside towns & villages such as Fowey, Falmouth & St Mawes are all within easy reach. For those flying to Cornwall, the airport is within easy reach.

An amazing holiday.

From the moment we arrived our whole experience at "The Threshing Barn" was special. The barn itself was well equipped, cosy and in a beautiful setting. The owners couldn't have been more helpful and gave us plenty of information on the area, places to eat and places to visit. A very relaxing and enjoyable holiday for ourselves and our dog.

Cusgarne is a bit remote and the area around is not very attractive. But the place is good for visits to all intersting spots on the north and the south coast. The cottage itself is perfect. The grounds around it are delightful. Comfort and style are very nice. We had 14 lovley days and felt at home from the very first moment.

The Threshing Barn, a quiet retreat in a beautifully restored barn, wonderful location

With just the 2 cottages at Cusgarne our 2 week holiday was always going to be very tranquil. Alex and Terry have done a fantastic job converting the old farm buildings into comfortable and attractive living spaces, as well as being great hosts. Cusgarne is a great location to explore southern Cornwall with most attractions / beaches within 30 minutes driving.

The perfect place to stay to explore Cornwall

The Threshing Barn was very clean and comfortable. All of the beds were comfortable. The gardens surrounding the Barn were very well maintained. There was plenty of space for the dog to run around in the garden which was ideal. Everything was very clean and modern. The log burner made the rainy evenings very comfortable. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. Tea, fresh coffee, milk, condiments, washing up liquid, hand wash, dishwasher tablets, logs and firelighters were provided. There is an organic farm shop along the same road which was very convenient. There is a folder in the barn which has all of the postcodes for all of the local supermarkets and doctors etc. There was also a big folder full of restaurant guides etc. that we found useful. The Barn was in a suitable place for us to visit many different areas of Cornwall we wanted to visit. The quiet country lanes around the village were nice places to walk the dog. The location of The Threshing Barn was very peaceful and quiet with great views of the stars. We really liked the large window in the barn which looks straight into a cow field. We found all of the local people very friendly.

Guest from Bolton stayed for 14 nights.

We very much enjoyed our 2 week stay at the Threshing Barn.

As regular visitors to Cornwall ( first time booking with Cornwall Cottages ) we have stayed in a variety of accommodations eg: cottages, town houses, conversions. As a family we did miss having Wifi and a tumble drier. Staying for the 2 weeks we did do quite a bit of washing. Having Wifi would have helped with advance bookings to places, finding out opening times, weather reports and using Google maps as we had very poor signal with our mobile phones in Cornwall.

Threshing Barn

Very comfortable and peaceful, very well equipped, very nice couple who own it (Terry and Alex). Had a lovely stay there, hope to be back. Only slight gripe was the low level of the armchairs and sofa, felt as though we had to go on knees on floor to stand upright, which didnt help when our knees are already wrecked with arthritis..

A Lovely Weekend In Cornwall!

The Threshing Barn ws a lovely place to stay. Its location was perfect for seeing the west of Cornwall. The barn is fully equipped to a good standard. The owners are welcoming and friendly with a lot of useful local information. The only draw back was how low the settee was, it made it uncomfortable to sit on. Otherwise we had a very pleasent stay.

Staying in Cornwall

A useful location, with access to many of the gardens that we wished to visit. It was peaceful allowing us to sleep well. The notes on where to eat were useful and we agreed with the owners' summary of what places were like. The main room and kitchen area were amongst the best equipped of anywhere that we have stayed. We were sorry that we did not bring our dog since we discovered that many of the places and gardens that we visited were dog friendly. Although it did not affect us, it did seem that anyone with heavy luggage or with an Incapacity might have difficulty accessing the barn. The weather was generally very kind to us and we did not spend much time in the barn other than in the evening and having breakfast. It was an advantage having such a good radio and television. Personally I found the chairs in the sitting area rather low and had to bolster mine with cushions from the sofa, but that was but a minor problem. It would not stop me from coming back here or indeed from recommending the barn to someone else. Generally speaking the barn was comfortable and well equipped. The welcome by the owners was friendly, comprehensive, interesting and helpful. Although we needed to see the owners infrequently, the conversations that we had were friendly and congenial.

Fantastic holiday!

The Threshing Barn provided a much needed break for myself and my two teenage children. The peace and quiet was lovely, the location for exploring Cornwall was perfect, the local village pub provided excellent home-cooked food. The barn is immaculate - clean, tidy, homely and renovated to an excellent standard. The owners provide a warm welcome, and the little touches make the difference - some fresh milk in the fridge, some tea bags, a bag of nice coffee and a complimentary basket of logs for the wood burner - perfect!

Guest from Waterlooville stayed for 7 nights.

A great property but a few small improvements could make a significant difference.

The Threshing is just what is says - a converted threshing barn, and a fantastic job has been made of the conversion which is is too a very high standard. The outlook to the rear of the property is over an open field which had been used for hay making just before our visit. Overall the property is very comfortable, however we felt that in this day and age, and given that that this is a premium price property, WiFi should have been provided (particularly as the internet connection through my phone was very poor in this area). The owners live in the main house which is in the same grounds, but private in respect of the Threshing Barn, and as they have WiFi it could easily be made available to the rental properties in a safe and secure way. Our other gripe is that you can not bring the car near the property (have to park in a open fronted garage or adjacent to it). The owners grounds for this are to make the area adjacent to the property child friendly (they do not have young children) and because the drain manhole covers do not support vehicles. The manhole covers could easily be upgraded to support vehicles, and at a relatively inexpensive cost. Had this been done at the time of the conversion, the cost difference would have been negligible. In respect of "child friendly", I do not think this is a real issue - do camp sites ban all vehicles ? Given bad weather it would be a real nuisance to have to lug your baggage from the car to the property or vice-versa. Last but not least, the TV is an old relic, again for an small amount of money it could be upgraded to a modern version with HD. So all in all a lovely property, but let down by some small things that would have made all the difference to us, and are expected by us when we pay a premium price for a rental property.

Reply from CornwallsCottages.co.uk on behalf of the Owner

When the buildings that now form Cusgarne Cottages were renovated, it was decided to make the surrounding area for pedestrians only. This was done in order to create a peaceful and secure area around the buildings for our guests and particularly for those with young children. Undercover parking is provided a matter of a few yards from both The Barn and The Cottage. The layout is clearly described on both the Cornwalls Cottages and Cusgarne Cottages websites. Many of our guests have said how much they appreciate the fact that there are no cars in the immediate vicinity of the cottages.
