Right on the beach, in a quite unique position, this sensitively restored old fisherman’s cottage is the perfect family summer holiday home and romantic winter hideaway. With its thick walls, low-beamed bedrooms and living room, ancient clome oven and log burner it is truly atmospheric. The property also benefits from two modern bathrooms and a fully fitted kitchen, which adjoins the light and airy sunroom/dining room. The views out to sea and over the beach from the sundeck and enclosed garden are truly exceptional.

The Nook is situated right on the Cornish Coastal Footpath, approximately 2 miles from the historic wreckers’ town of Bude on Northcott Bay, a west facing beach much loved by local surfers. The beach has large rounded stones at the top but, as the tide retreats, it reveals acres of soft sand. The property is surrounded by a wooden fence to ensure privacy, has a sundeck and barbeque and is equipped with garden furniture. What could be better than sitting on the sundeck watching a stunning sunset over the beach with a glass of wine in hand and a feast cooking on the barbeque?
Ground Floor: The entrance porch leads in one direction, via a hallway, to a double bedroom (4'6") and shower room / WC and in another direction to the cosy lounge with wood burner and clome oven set in a beautiful old stone fireplace. The lounge with double sofa bed leads to the slate floored, fully fitted kitchen and to a bathroom with bath and shower over and WC. Adjacent to the kitchen is the light, airy, split-level dining room / sunroom which has panoramic views over the bay and French doors to the sundeck. A short spiral staircase leads back down from the dining room / sunroom to the lounge.
First Floor: Cosy double (4'6") and twin (3') rooms with exposed beams.
Exterior: Sundeck on the west side and lawn on the west and south sides of the fully enclosed garden with garden furniture & BBQ.

The Nook is situated on Northcott Mouth and is approximately a 5 minute drive north of Bude. Bude is Cornwall's most northern town and has been a favourite seaside resort since Victorian times. The coastal scenery surrounding the beaches of is quite beautiful, boasting some of the finest sandy beaches and the best surfing in England! The town has excellent facilities and a wide selection of interesting, independent shops. This idyllic area has a large amount of bird life for the dedicated twitcher and some wonderful, scenic walks along the South West coastal path.
The centre of Bude is a lively hub with concerts, dances and fetes as well as other events throughout the season, including an annual Carnival Week. The town has a host of pubs, cafes and restaurants to suit every palate and there is a new Visitors Centre in the Crescent car park, a large children's play area, a 19th century canal and a small wharf amongst many other attractions. Bude is also home to the internationally acclaimed jazz festival which takes place each August.
Further along the coast is Sandymouth, a large beach ideal for families due to its lovely sand, rock pools and tea rooms. A short drive north over the border into Devon leads to the quaint village of Hartland with its very own shipwreck! Also well worth a visit is the world famous fishing village of Clovelly. The cobbled, traffic-free, high street is built into a cleft in a 400' high cliff and tumbles its way down past whitewashed cottages festooned with flowers to the tiny working port.

This was our third trip to the Nook and we love it more each time we return. It is by no means perfect but for us that is part of its charm. We like the fact that you do not have to be too precious with regards to our two weimeraners, and that you can totally relax and switch off in the comfy surroundings. The view is amazing and the proximity to the beach is an added bonus when you are walking the dogs or just watching the most spectacular sunsets over the ocean ( with glass of wine !! ). Even when the weather is not great, we feel the place has a magical quality that keeps us coming back. Looking forward to trip No4 Annie,Phil and our two dogs Marnie & Bella

We stayed at the Nook for New Year and the location is specatular. However we found the cottage quite small and we would have appreciated to know about the ceiling height as we are a family of tall people. I'm not one for complaining but the cleanliness really wasn't up to our standard . Wi-fi & the video recorder didn't work which normally is not a problem at all as we are outdoor people but when it gets dark at 4pm it would have been nice to at least be able to watch a movie. Not having wifi was a blessing in the end as I have never seen my husband more relaxed (after the initial OMG no internet & no mobile connection panic!) However in my opinion if you advertise a property with all these facilities please ensure they work properly especially if you pay a premium price.
Thank you for your review, please accept my sincere apologies that the cleanliness of the cottage was not up to standard. I will be taking this up with the cleaning company, the Nook has since undergone a deep clean with new bedding and towels replaced. I'm sorry the Wi-Fi was not working, we have checked the line and equipment and it all seems to be working ok, unfortunately due to the location of the cottage the Wi-Fi signal is occasionally intermittent. The DVD player that was at the Nook was not very user friendly and we have since replaced it with a more up to date one. Regards Janet

We spent Christmas 2016 at The Nook and had the best time! The cottage is simply beautiful and the location is unbeatable. Very cosy & warm, so well glazed that you can't even hear the sea when the windows are shut. I cannot recommend this place enough, we absolutely loved it. Sitting at the dining table looking out to sea & waking the dogs every day along the beautiful sandy beach (when tide is out) was just fab! Cottage is very comfortable and well equipped, can't wait to return! It will be hard to beat this cottage.
Thank you for your lovely review, I'm glad you all had a lovely Christmas at the Nook. We look forward to your return. Regards Jade Orchard

We love staying at The Nook, it's the 3rd time we have been. The owners have recently updated it since our last stay and it was much more pratical. Fantastic location, but was a bit surprised to see the first part of the beach had turned into rock! Just goes to show how powerful the sea is. Will continue to book this cottage for as long as the owner allows, and would buy it if it were for sale!

Second stay at the most wonderful cottage in Bude. Location cannot be beaten. To wake up and eat breakfast watching the sea every day. Morning strolls with the dogs. Cottage has all amenities. Very comfortable a home from home. It's sad to see tgat storms over the years has changed the beach as it is a lot rockier than before but didn't spoil our fun in any way. Miss it already

Lovely cottage in a superb location. Only downside is that being an old fisherman's cottage, some of the ceilings are very low resulting in multiple bumped heads for the taller members of our party!!
Guest from Portsmouth stayed for 7 nights.
Fantastic location- beautiful view of the beach from the cottage. Cottage very well equipped and very clean on our arrival. Lounge area quite small for 2 adults and 2 grown up children and very dark- however not a problem in the evening when being used. Only criticism- one of the double sofa springs was shot and therefore not comfortable for any length of time. Lovely open plan sun-room which was very pleasant to sit in at any time and nice to have a choice of bath and separate shower. All in all a fantastic week enjoyed by all- thank you very much! Booking process was very easy and information sent prior to trip was very good also. Would thoroughly recommend.
The Owner just wanted to let you know that the broken sofa has now been replaced by a new one.

The Nook is in an amazing spot, right on the beach.. It is the perfect place for walkers, surfers, beach combers and all outdoor lovers that are under 5' 4" - beware the beams and low doorways!!! The garden is not overlooked by another property, but if you want privacy this is not the place for you as there are lots of walkers and beach lovers making the most of this fantastic bay. For our group of two dogs and six adults from Tyne & Wear, Northampton and Kent, our week in Cornwall began in torrential rain, howling winds and a surging torrent of water almost overflowing the riverbed next to The Nook. Things began to dry up by Monday afternoon and we managed to BBQ in the very sheltered fire pit on almost every night of our stay. Luckily the weather continued to improve and we had some lovely walks on the beach, even picking a few small, but very sweet mussels. The Nook is very dog friendly with slate and wood flooring downstairs, and a secure garden. There are limited kitchen work surfaces but we found The Nook to be spotlessly clean and well stocked with excellent fridge space. There is plenty of outdoor furniture which is much more comfortable than the interior seating (and no stray springs!). We moved the dining table down next to the kitchen to make the most of the raised floor, French doors and wonderful views over the beach. We recommend The Nook as a lovely place to stay but unless you are a Middle Earth dweller, bring crash helmets as only one member of our party (5' 2") hasn't taken a bruised head home!
Just to say that the Owner has informed us that the old sofa has now been replaced by a new one.

Our stay at The Nook was marred by the adjoining cottage undergoing major roof repairs. This meant builders noise, including angle grinders, from 8:00am until 5:oo pm. We were not informed of this situation before we went and despite e-mailing them several days ago we have had no reply whatsoever. There were no curtains in the main bedroom (difficult with builders on the roof outside) The position is wonderful but we felt cheated as the owners and the rental company obviously knew about the building works - very disappointed.£2000 should have merited a better overall stay.
I am so sorry for any disturbance last week at the Nook but i thought that the roof had now been completed, after recieving your review i travelled down to the Nook to see what was going on, I am now told that the scaffolding will be taken down on Thursday 26th May, However there is a small amount of work to be completed at the back of the white cottage againi have been promised it will be completed by the end of the following week. Once again i am so sorry for the disturbance, I hope it has not spoiled your holiday to much and I hope you'll return in the future.

A very pleasant stay. Have been several times before. Perfect location for us & a very well run property. Clean & tidy. Good location for our small dog also. Despite the fence being weather damaged just prior to our visit, a temporary replacement was perfectly adequate & finished before we arrived. Will hopefully book again next year.

As soon as we pulled up we fell in love with this beautiful, quaint little cottage right at the beach Parents came too, they had their own shower room outside their bedroom, very happy I read reviews to help me choose my accommodation and this cottage is what it is; 200 years old but modernised, very homely and cosy, well equipped, clean, it's never going to be the Ritz but who cares. We walked the dogs, watched the waves crash onto the beach, lit the fire every night and planned our return for next year Go, you'll love it too

Beautiful location for a restful yet reviving break. The Nook is in a perfect position on the beach for enjoying the beauty that nature has to offer. The sea in all its forms, calm and still to tumbling and crashing into the rocks and up onto the beach. The beach has been shaped over time by the elements. The golden sands have been partly swept away leaving bare rocky outcrops. Low tide reveals glorious golden sands which offer a lovely walk either into Bude or towards the shipwreck and beyond. The location of The Nook allows access to the coastal paths which provide invigorating walks enjoying natures best. The Nook is a cosy comfortable cottage. The decor has a beachside nautical feel. All facilities are available. Wifi can be difficult to access and mobile signal is limited inside the cottage. This suited us perfectly! There is a ground floor bedroom which is handy for people with mobility limitations. The dining/sitting room provides a perfect view of the beach, sea and hills. Patio doors open onto a decked area where there are plenty of seats to enjoy the outdoors. The garden is gated and safe for dogs to roam and explore. Our visit was in early March and during a particularly stormy night the fence blew down. Following contact with the Housekeepers and owners PA swift action was taken. This is our second visit to The Nook. We had the perfect time. I hope we will be back soon.

Not clean enough No cleaning cloths or even any bleach Bath towels like a handkerchief Shower ran very hot or very cold could not use ! No phone signal anywhere in house . A land line would help
Hi Phil Thank you for leaving a review for your stay at The Nook. Please accept my sincere apologies that the cleanliness of the cottage was not up to standard. I will be taking this up with the cleaning company. I will also be asking them why there were no cleaning cloths left for you as there usually are. Unfortunatey, we do not provide bleach for guests due to the risks from ingestion etc. I will look into replacing the bath towels if they have become thin. Also, the shower was completely replaced last week so should not have any more problems now. The phone signal is notoriously bad on the coast im afraid which is out of my control, but a land line is something that we might consider in the future. Kind regards

This is the 4th year we have come here and it is a excellent location , and a fab little cottage which over the years of staying has had a lot of work done on it and just keeps getting better , you can't get a better view from your back garden

I would recommend to anyone to stay in this idilic location. The cottage has an abundance of charm with its cosy rooms & enclosed garden. The only thing I would of changed about the nook is the length of time spent there just wasn't enough. Waking up to the stunning views every morning were breathtaking. I will be returning

We stayed at The Nook for a week in June, and wish we could have stayed longer. Lovely cottage with enough space for our family of 4 plus our 3 dogs. Beautiful peaceful location that couldn't be faulted at all. Views are amazing, couldn't wait to get out of bed in the morning to see the lovely view. Excellent facilities in the cottage and everything you need for outdoor relaxing. Nice spacious secure garden for the dogs and lovely decked area for relaxing and dining. Only down side was on the cleanliness side. Although we appreciate the location is right on the beach, we did feel that the property could have been cleaned to a better standard for our arrival. Overall ok, could have cleaned bathrooms and vacuumed a bit more thorough. Only a 15 min. stroll to Bude and lovely walks along the cliffs towards Sandymouth beach. Again, beautiful quirky cottage with freshly decorated rooms and amazing views from many aspects. We loved it, our teenage girls loved it and our dogs loved it!!! We even bought some artwork of the cottage from a local artist as a reminder of how special The Nook and surrounding area is. Can't wait to return in the future. Thanks for a great holiday location, the Earl family, lots of licks Pepi, Dollie & Buster.
Hi All Thank you for taking the time to leave such a nice review - Im glad you enjoyed your visit! Our cleaning company has received a copy of the review and have apologised about the bathrooms. They have informed me that they have since steam cleaned them and will do so again. Regards Janet

A very enjoyable holiday. The cottage was lovely and cosy and in a fantastic location. There was tea, coffee, biscuits and milk waiting for us on arrival and after a 3hr drive it was well deserved. Bude was only 10 mins away in the car, what a lovely quaint place and had everything to hand. We only had one bad day out of our stay, but with all the board games and dvd's and the log burner we were in our element. There was some sad faces when we had to leave and that was just the dogs, they had a ball there plenty of space for them to run around in the garden. All in all a very enjoyable stay was had by all. Janet Orchard you have a lovely cottage and we will return soon. Kind Regards Phillip, Karen, Carwyn Jackson & Ziva ( dogs ) xx
Thank you for your kind comments! We hope to see you again soon! Regards Janet

It's just been renovated to a very high standard with tasteful, high quality furnishings that look like they will withstand the rigors of a rental cottage, and one that accepts dogs at that! Very well equipped kitchen, nice modern bathrooms and lots of little touches that make this home away from home such a wonderful place to stay (a garage to put bikes in, playing cards, jigsaws, board games and loads of books and DVDs, tea, coffee, milk & biscuits there on arrival etc.). We loved it!
Hi Andrea Many thanks for your kind review - i'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Kind regards Janet (Cottage Owner)

Didn't think this place could get any better after our first stay late 2012 but we were wrong. We think this cottage has so much charm, set in a location that is second to none. On both trips we have been off season and you usually have the whole beach to yourself, You really cannot get a better scenario than sitting in the dining room having a meal and one or two ! glasses of wine looking at the spectacular view, and the odd mad surfer. Marnie our 10mnth old weimaraner loved this place and like us was not looking forward to leaving. For a family or small group of friends to be here in the summertime sat outside on the decking would be truly fantastic and we would love to return for a summer to experience this. A big thanks to Sue and Steve for turning up so quickly to sort out the Wi-Fi for us. REMARKABLE PLACE All the Best Annie,Phil & Marnie
Hi Annie,Phil & Marnie Thank you for your kind comments - im realy glad you enjoyed your stay at The Nook. The beach is wonderful in early spring - an excellent place to let Marnie have a run around! We hope to see you again soon. Kind regards Janet

Location The proximity of the cottage to the beach made it feel like an exclusive private area just for us! Naturally with us visiting in November meant there were very few people about at Northcott Mouth which itself is beautiful, offering pleasant walks either way up the cliffs along the coastal path or when the tide is out, on the beach. At high tide the sea was less than 30m away from the cottage and we experienced heavy weather one dusk which lead to amazing views of the storm swell, thunderous waves and sea spray being whipped up. Sitting behind the comfortable double glazing with very thick stone walls and the log burner blazing away we felt safe, warm and privileged to be this close to nature. With shopping facilities in Bude being less than 5 minutes away, all the essentially were on hand easily. As for sight-seeing places like (to the North) Clovelly and (the South) Tintagel, Port Issac, Boscaste and Padstow were all within easy strike. Even Bodmin Jail and the infamous Jamaica Inn are all within a half day trip reach. The Cottage I expected charm which it delivered admirably, but I was not prepared for the quirkiness! With it having been (I think) two previous fisherman's cottages and with an extension added it was always going to be a challenge to offer "open plan" living (which I personally love in my home, but am happy to forego in surroundings like this). Some of the walls were 24 inches thick so layout flexibility was realistically never going to be on the cards. Yet what the owners have done is create an amazingly workable, comfortable and cosy holiday let that does not feel claustrophobic, but warm and inviting (certainly characteristics we were searching for visiting in November). The lounge area with its log burner was great for the dark evenings to settle down to chat about the days events and watch movies! The kitchen was well provisioned but does require a "tidy chef" due to the amount of work space, yet given the confines works well. With 2 fridges, a freezer, microwave, toaster, dish washer and cooker / hob everything is on hand. The dining area and front sitting room face out onto a large decking area and onto the beach which is simply delightful to watch the sunrise / sunset whilst eating either indoors or out. The downstairs double bedroom had a small shower and toilet room next to it providing near en-suite facilities. The main bathroom is downstairs and was large with a bath with a shower tap attachment. Upstairs there is a double and a twin room both adequately sized. No matter where you were in the property it felt like you were no more than 8 steps away from either having to bend your head or turn your body sideways.... this is the quirkiness of the property as it utilises all the space available including under the eaves! A lot of the internal doors are low height and with me being 6 foot had to be aware! Some of the doors and stairs leading up to the bedroom are narrower than normal which takes a little adjustment also. However these features and the fact the ground floor seems to be on about 3 levels all adds to the quirkiness which we loved. I would not take someone who is infirm or has mobility issues, or someone who expects 5 star hotel luxury because the property does have to contend with the direct effects of its location to sea and salt. This results in what some may think as damp in a couple of places or poor ownership maintenance, but in our opinion was neither. The oil boiler pumped out hot water better than my own house and the central heating worked extremely well, so we were never cold or left waiting for 4 adults to get through our daily routines! In Summary, I would stay here again (we were two couples on a 5 day break leaving the kids at home!) and recommend others to do so, especially out of the high season if you wanted a quaint and peaceful get away because although it appears isolated (we hardly saw anyone else around), everything is available and nearby. In our opinion it offered the best of both worlds a little escapism where we could get away from everything at night, whilst lunching out in some amazing North Cornish villages. It is warm, well provisioned, comfortable and the location is unbelievable.
Hi Julian Many thanks for your kind review - the cottage is certainly quirky and full of charm! Im glad you all enjoyed your stay in Cornwall. Regards Janet

A very enjoyable holiday in a fantastic location, however as seasoned users of holiday homes in the UK over the past 40 years we were disappointed at the standard of cleanliness at the Nook. We only used the ground floor bedroom and bathroom but the bed and linen were tired and not crisp, the bathroom towel rail was really dirty as was the large shelf in the bedroom. As a previous guest has pointed out the sofa in the lounge rocks and has seen better days, windows needed a clean internally and some tlc would not go amiss throughout the property. I note the owner states the property is fully booked all year, this I feel is due to its position and maybe sacrificing some revenue to maintain a better standard could be considered. Brian & Sue Wade
The Nook has had a complete winter refurbishment and has been decorated inside and out. The bathroom has been refurbished and has a new towel rail.

Idyllic perfect location for our (adult) family break. Yes expensive but amenities were very good. A place to make memories. Perfect to get perspective away from hectic city life. Will definitely go again.

The fabulous location of this property coupled with the perfect weather made it a holiday to remember. The Nook is a quirky property which definitely suffers from a battering from the elements. This apart we were slightly disappointed with the cleanliness of the property and the way it was equipped. Nothing to do washing up with, drawer fronts falling off in the kitchen, taps and shower heads coming apart. The property smelt very damp especially the downstair bedroom and the valances around the beds had definitely not had a wash for a very long time. I definitely got the feeling that we had tagged on another week at the end of a very busy letting season. A little more care to the finer details and updating of some of the furnishings would definitely benefit this beautiful cottage.
Dear Mr Harmer Thank you for your recent review and for drawing my attention to a couple of maintenance/cleaning points. I would like to assure you that I have spoken to my cleaning company regarding the cleanliness of the cottage and made them aware that more thorough checks need to be made after each party of guests leave. Previous guests had broken the kitchen drawer front and it has been repaired. As soon there is a break in the lettings it will be completely replaced to eliminate this problem. Also, the plumber will be attending the issues in the bathroom. Due to the location of the property and the method of construction the salt in the bedroom is a very difficult problem to tackle I take care to redecorate every year to ensure the property remains looking good.

This was our third stay at The Nook over a one year period as we've enjoyed it there so much. Janet, the owner, explains in her Welcome Book that The Nook is extremely old and because of it's location and the local elements, the cottage itself almost has a life of it's own with creaks and squeaks, dampness, dirty windows because of the sea spray etc, etc. To us this just adds to the character of the place, doesn't worry us at all and the fabulous location makes up for any "decorating" issues. We realise the "high" price of staying at the cottage during the summer months are due in the main to it's location which you expect to pay a premium for. However when we compare "like for like" at other holiday homes in similar locations, we felt disappointed in this stay for the following reasons: 1 None of the bed linen has been up-dated in a year. Some marks on pillow-cases, mattress topper is ripped in upstairs double and the mattress now has "dips" in it. 2 Bedside tables in upstairs double have ingrained sand/dirt in the framework which would be nigh on impossible to clean properly. 3 Chest of drawers in upstairs double still has missing handles in order to open them - was like this in August 2013.. 4 Some of the crockery/mugs have chips and cracks in them and they look "tired" plus amount of mugs has gone down considerably. 5 The front of the kitchen drawer that holds the cutlery falls off when you open it (already reported by former holiday makers) and previously had the same issue in August 2013. 6 The issue with the two fridges in the kitchen - the grey fridge doesn't work but the freezer does. Additionally the photo of the kitchen on Cornwall Cottages site of large American fridge is mis-leading. 7 Cooker does the job but is very old and seen better days and must be hell for the cleaners to try and keep clean. 8 The waxed table cloth in the dining area is still the same from over a year ago and is marked and seen better days. 9 The matching place mats are edged with grease - we chose not to use them as they really need throwing out and replaced. 10 The hem of the curtains over the main door on to the decking was ripped and the bottoms of them were dirty. 11 The material sofa in the lounge is very old and appears broken. When you sit on it, it rocks forward and backward. Cushions are missing buttons and are thin and uncomfortable. 12 The wooden pegs on the washing line are broken and there's hardly any of them. 13 The turning of the cold water tap in the bath is coming off - you have to push it back in, in order to turn it on. 14 Downstairs bedroom suffers extreme damp. Handles also missing off chest of drawers as of a year ago. The mattress in this bedroom also has "dips" in it too. Believe it or not, we are not picky people! If just one or two of the above were true, we wouldn't feel as we do. However having just spent £4000.00 on a two week break there and seeing that the same time next year has gone up to £4274.00, we would expect that the comfort/aesthetics etc are of a better standard. We have spent £8767.00 over the last year staying at The Nook and two sets of friends have booked two separate stays at this cottage purely from our recommendations. One set of friends are due to stay in October and we are going to feel awkward when they ask us how our recent stay was. Consequently we feel unable to recommend it to others after this stay which is a great shame, but if you're paying top dollar to stay there, you don't expect issues as we've listed above.
Hi Mr & Mrs McCormick Thank you for submitting your recent review. I am disappointed that you were so unhappy with the property, especially after I met you in person during your stay and you did not raise any issues with me regarding the points below. The only issue you had was with the internet being down this was rectified for you by replacing the modem. In response to your points raised I would like to make the following comments: 1. The bed linen and towels are checked after every season and replaced. 2. The bedside tables in the upstairs bedroom are cane and therefore give the effect of ingrained sand. 3. The chest of drawers - again, there were handles on them at the beginning of the season however I think children must unscrew them and they get lost. I will speak to the cleaning company regarding this. 4. The cleaning company checks all the crockery after each letting and have apologised that on this occasion they missed a couple of chips. Spares of all crockery, cutlery etc. in the kitchen are kept at the property and replaced as needed. 5. The kitchen drawer has previously been repaired at the end of the season it will be replaced. It is very hard to complete any replacements during the season as the cottage is always fully booked. 6. The fridge in the kitchen has been checked and is working the fridge and freezer is unplugged after each letting to allow it to fully defrost to ensure maximum efficiency. Maybe you did not plug it in and turn it back on again as the cleaners had no problem with it after you left. 7. The cooker in the kitchen was purchased 3 years ago and has never given me any problems. 8. The oil cloth on the dining table was new at the beginning of the season - it was the same pattern . After completing an inspection recently there are some marks from when children have been doing colouring. This will be replaced. 9. I have replaced the table mats. 10. I will speak to the cleaning company about repairing the tear in the curtains. Again when I carried out an inspection at the beginning of the season everything was in order. 11. The sofa has been checked and I cannot find any defaults. I already have plans to replace this with a leather sofa for next year. 12. I have purchased some more pegs for the washing line. 13. I will address the issues you had in the bathroom with the plumber. However the taps arent leaking and do still work. The whole system will be replaced at the end of the season. 14. Unfortunately due to the location of the property and the year and method of construction, salt, not damp, in the bedroom is a very difficult problem to tackle. I am fastidious about redecoration every year. In summary, as per our telephone conversation, I am grateful for constructive criticism as unless guests highlight issues then I am not always made aware of them immediately. I take pride in my property and am saddened to think that you have had a less that wonderful experience at The Nook. Every year I look over the whole of the property and review and replace anything as needed, including linen, towels, mattresses, kitchen equipment, curtains and fixtures and fittings. I have taken all your points into consideration and will action them to continue to give guests the wonderful experience they deserve when staying at this special property.

A superb location and we had a great family holiday here. However, a serious problem was that the scalding hot water was a danger in the shower as the cold water supply was malfunctioning. The plumber came promptly and said do not use. (he was awaiting a new part). Two of the kitchen drawer fronts fell off, in one case the cutlery falling on the feet of one of us. The kitchen light was also defunct but the caretaker came and replaced the special bulb/tube as quickly as she could. The beds were comfy and we appreciated the provision of bedlinen and towels. We also appreciated the provision of sunbeds, wetsuits etc.in the garage. We will all take back happy memories of our holiday at The Nook.
Hi Jonathan Many thanks for your review. We have unfortunatley had a problem with the new shower. We are awaiting repairs from the manufacturer. Thank you for also making us aware of the drawer fronts - our handy man will make sure they are repaired. We are glad you enjoyed you stay in Cornwall and hope you come back to visit again. Kind regards Janet

This is our 2nd visit to the Nook with our 3rd booked for 2 weeks in August so we are "hooked with the Nook" :) The cleanliness on arrival is great with all necessary towels/welcome tray etc laid out beautifully. Location is second to none with beach literally in front of the garden - the beach has become slightly more rocky than our last visit due to the storms taking away some of the sand but the beach is so interesting with many rock pools and interesting terrain that this really didn't matter. Wifi for us was great which we "needed" for our 14 year old son who likes to stay in touch with the rest of the world while we like getting away from all of that! The cottage isn't in pristine condition due to the locality of the cottage, and like a previous reviewer, my heart goes out to the owner as maintenance must be a real ongoing battle. However in my opinion, this just adds to the character of the place - it's also lovely to see old photos on the wall of how it used to be - the cottage feels old and loved. The beds were comfortable due to lovely thick mattress protectors and we noticed great new garden furniture in the garage with big squishy cushions that we will definitely be using in August - weather permitting! We had two great meals at Life is a Beach - their steaks are second to none and waiting staff are very friendly and accommodating - we also had the obligatory fish and chip takeaway and chinese takeaway from Tiandi on the Strand - both of which were scrumptious. All in all, we had a great week - somehow though a week just isn't long enough to fully experience both the locality and the cottage and I did think a 10 day break when not in full season would be great. We have recommended The Nook to loads of people - one family tried to book and couldn't get the dates they wanted and another family visited the Nook back in March for a week and they too are looking to re-book. The Nook is definitely a jewel in the crown - I just hope not too many people find out about it or we won't be able to re-book again and again :)

This property is in a wonderful location, but the property visibly suffers from the elements, so visitors should not be too surprised by signs of damp penetration. The owner has our sympathy with the maintenance which must be very difficult. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable. We all loved our stay and it's close proximity to the beach. There are a couple of points which we think might be useful for the owner to know. The main double bedroom upstairs would benefit from a roller blind as when the sun rises it means an early awakening for anyone in that room! The bedroom downstairs felt (and smelled) quite musty when we arrived and we assumed that this might have been because it was early in the season and may not have been aired much before our arrival. It would also be useful to leave two black bin bags and check at the car park with the signage because the instructions in the cottage asked for rubbish to be taken to the car park on departure on Sunday, but there is a sign at the car park which states rubbish must not be left before Monday evening. We would ask you to note that one of the legs was loose on one of the four wicker chairs and we swopped it for a spare we found in the garage. There were also two broken glasses when we arrived and we left these on the work surface in the kitchen. We would definitely recommend this (have already done so) and return ourselves.

We had very high hopes from the photos on the website and it more than lived up to them. It is a lovely cottage with everything we needed and the location was out of this world - we loved it!

We had a fantastic time at the Nook. It was warm and cosy and ideal for 2 dogs. Location is unbeatable, quite wild in gale force winds! Easy to leave tidy and clean when vacating the property.A fantastic property at any time of year. As a holiday cottage owner ourselves we loved being left to our own devises with out being over looked by a housekeeper/owner and it meant we could relax completely. I would definitely recommend The Nook to other people.

Location was great but house needs some TLC. Needs a derby good clean. Downstairs shower for instance. Plus smells of dog and our bed linen had dog hair on it. Beds are uncomfortable and pillows smell v old. Generally in need of some TLC and would have helped to know it is such a dog friendly place as I may not have booked as not all dog owners respect the space. Towels also v old.
Thank you for your comments left after your recent stay at my property - I'm sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. All linen, pillows and towels were replaced in spring of this year and I have spent a considerable amount of money on mattress toppers for all of the beds. However I feel that the firmness of a bed is very much a personal preference. Thank you for making us aware of the dog smell - I will be taking this up with the cleaning company I use.

This is a special property with some history. Excellent location for beach activities as well as extended walks or running. Great views from the hills nearby as well as sunsets from the deck. The house offers the basics but nor more, which I would have expected for the price to be paid. - Kitchen supplies were poor (no cloths), similarly for bathroom (no extra toilet paper). - WLAN is poor - deck ist really nice, but clearly a more robust table as well as better sunshade (maybe attached at the house) is missing - beds are not really comfortable (small and soft) I would recommend this property, but not without these preconditions. At this price level facilities offer just better quality.
We're sorry you were unable to find the kitchen towels and spare toilet rolls, we always leave a few supplies available. Unfortunately WLAN in Cornwall is poor generally compared to many towns in England. As soon as Superfast reaches our area we will look to upgrade. We replace the deck furniture every year as it is so exposed to the elements. I'm afraid beds are a personal preference, however we are sorry you found them uncomfortable. Thank you for your comments and taking the time to review.
