For those wishing to visit the delights of places such as The Eden Project, Charlestown and Fowey, this is the area for you, located on the Eastern side of St Austell. With large attractions such as the Eden Project on the outskirts of St Austell, The Lost Gardens of Heligan towards Mevagissey, and Lanhydrock National Trust House & Gardens a short drive inland it provides an ideal base for your travels. The coastal town of Fowey is a simple drive to the coast past the China Clay port of Par, offering fabulous restaurants, galleries and gift shops. Daphne du Maurier spent her later years in properties in and around Fowey.

St Austell was once the major producer of the worlds China Clay, now with cheaper foreign imports the industry is in decline but The Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum set in two former working pits depicts the countryside in years gone by. Wet weather activities could include the visitor centre at St Austell Brewery, sampling beers and ales made on the premises. The Eden Project hosts many bands throughout the season as well as featuring an Ice Rink out of season.

Bodmin was the former county town of Cornwall for many years and the only Cornish town to be recorded in the Domesday Book, which was lodged in the town's prison during the First World War. The county prison is now a museum and open to the public. It was the first prison in the country to have separate cells. The oldest part of the town is made up of mainly granite buildings clustered around the Bodmin Beacon. The Beacon is a 144 feet tall obelisk in memory of Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert. The area around the Beacon which has woodland and traditional hay meadow was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 1994. At Tregullon you are just 10 miles away from The Eden Project and 2 miles away from the National Trust's amazing Lanhydrock House.

Nearby Bodmin Moor, bisected by the newly expanded A30 is home to one of Cornwalls Areas of Oustanding Natural Beauty. Reaching a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwalls highest point. The heather covered granite moorland provides East Cornwall with the most stunning country views and rugged walks. Near Blisland you will find two of Cornwalls stone circles, the Trippet Stones and Stripple Stone Henge and just round the corner, one end of the famous Camel Trail. The 18 mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families.

Our stay at Sunnywell

We have no complaints, everything was very good. One little thing,we thought not being able to book in until 4pm was a little late,as having to be out by 10 am a little early, but we understand that house has to be cleaned. We will be staying there again.

Happy summer holiday

The cottage was as good as the photos on the website and had more things in it than I expected from self catering accommodation. The owner gave us a warm welcome and explained how everything worked in the property. I definitely look forward to going again.

Nice break

This was our first visit to Sunnywell and we enjoyed it very much. We found everything, including the beds, very comfortable and convenient. We had a problem with the Wifi connection which was swiftly sorted out by Jill. Will definitely go back there another time.

Sunnywell "Heaven"

Absolutely wonderful! Not a single negative about this beautiful Bothy cottage. Looks amazing from the outside, but the inside......! Tradition mixed with modern to a very, very high spec. Full of charm and character, love a first sight. Has everything you need in the kitchen. Outside- indoor games room, body boards, out door games and a utility room with washer and dryer. Plentiful parking space. Very peaceful and nice to see the cows pass each day (silently, surprisingly) and gorgeous views. Central location to both North and South coasts. Jill and Dave made us so welcome and only too happy to show us around their other properties and lovely to chat with. Will definitely be returning when we are able and would definitely recommend to anyone. 5 stars!

A very warm welcome at Sunnywell

On our arrival we were greeted by Jill, who explained all we needed to know about the facilities within Sunnywell. She also suggested some useful places to visit close by. We enjoyed our welcome cream tea of scones, jam and clotted cream! The accommodation was very spacious and light and airy, with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. We had a very peaceful stay and look forward to returning in the future.

Sunnywell Barn - perfect location for everything and anything in Cornwall

Sunnywell is a perfect location for touring Cornwall. We were no more than 1/2 hour from both the North and South Cornish coast. So many places to go and see and then to come back to the barn was bliss.....so relaxing and like a home from home. A well stocked kitchen area with all the utensils you could ever need, a comfy living area, soft comfy beds and power showers to wash away the sand from the days on the beach. This was a gem of a find and as a family we look forward to returning for many more fun packed holidays.
