Offering a warm welcome and affordable holiday, Chycarne is a traditional Cornish farm, built in the 17th century and situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty and the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. South facing and set in six acres of grounds with truly magnificent panoramic views over the surrounding unspoilt countryside and beyond to Mounts Bay from the Lizard to Penzance. Nestling on the side of Tregonning Hill, Chycarne Farm is a unique and beautiful retreat from the rest of the world. Each season has something to offer here. Being so far south, the warm sun and mild climate produce sub-tropical vegetation. Wild flowers grow in profusion along the stone wall hedges in Spring and Summer. In the Autumn and Winter the heathers, gorse and bracken form a carpet of colour on the hillsides. Surrounded by peaceful gardens and paddocks, where you can sit and relax and enjoy the unique atmosphere and views.

Pen at Chycarne Farm is a ground floor, one bedroom cottage with country and garden views, situated on the end of a block of three. It is accessed from a gravel path up one steps. It has the benefit of a 5' double bed in the bedroom and a 4' drop down concealed wall bed in the living space.

Accommodation
Ground Floor only: Kitchen, living area with a table and 3 chairs and a 2-seater sofa, plus a concealed 4' wall bed, shower room with WC, bedroom with 5' double bed with fitted wardrobe and dressing table.
Exterior: Garden furniture is available immediately outside the cottage and in addition you have access to the shared grounds of Chycarne, including a giant chess set and play equipment for younger children. The views from around the site are dramatic. There is an enclosed dog walking field on site.

Facilities & Services
Heating is via night storage and electric heaters. The kitchen has a freestanding electric cooker & hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge with freezer compartment. The living area has a TV with DVD & CD player. There is WiFi available. There is an iron and ironing board available. There is an on site laundrette with coin operated washing machine and tumble drier.

Miscellaneous
Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. There is off road parking available for 1 car with further space available for trailers etc. Two well behaved dogs (more at the discretion of the owner) are permitted at the property at the extra charge of £25 per dog per week although please remember that dogs can not be left unattended in the cottage alone. Regrettably no smoking is allowed. A highchair can be made available upon request.

Praa Sands in the South West of Cornwall is located between Helston and Penzance. The town contains many facilities including a shop, pub, post office and Praa Sands Gold Club. The nearest large supermarket is Morrisons towards Penzance. The extensive beach stretching from Rinsey Head to Hoe Point is extremely popular with the whole family, Prussia Cove, Perranuthnoe & Marazion are the nearest beaches, all within a few minutes drive. When the North Coast is 'blown out' you will find the surfers flock to Praa Sands for its powerful waves coming straight in from the Atlantic Ocean. Just inland from the beach is Pengersick Castle which dates back to the Bronze Age. Nearby Helston is famous for its Floral Dance in May, a day when the whole town stops and dresses up for the days many dances through the streets. From Penzance you can take the Scillonian for a day trip to the picturesque Isles of Scilly, well worth a visit if you have never been. 10 minutes down the road lies Marazion famous for St Michaels Mount, home to a medieval castle and a working local community. St Michaels Mount is accessible by causeway at low tides, or by boat. The castle is leased from the National Trust by the St Aubyn family who reside at the property maintaining and working the grounds.

Chycarne is only 1.5 miles from the beautiful beach and surf at Praa Sands and about the same distance from Rinsey's rocky cove (NT). Prussia Cove film set for 'Ladies in Lavender' and Godolphin House (NT) of 'Poldark' fame, are nearby. Four miles away is the market town of Helston, full of Cornish history and tradition, with it's Furry dance in early May. For children of all ages there is Flambards Theme Park next to Culdrose Air Base famous for many air sea rescue missions. There are sights to be seen around Goonhilly Earth station where the large dish Arthur is now a listed building. Try your hand at riding a 2 wheeled Segway. These together with the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek and the nearby coastal village of Porthleven provide any holidaymaker with a wealth of interesting visits. Only 7.5 miles away is the lively town of Penzance where trips to the Isles of Scilly can be taken by helicopter or ferry. St Ives is only 14 miles away on the north coast with its beautiful bays and artistic areas.

Chycarne is central for the areas and villages of the Lizard, Helford, Land's End and Mousehole. Facilities for golf, sailing, course and sea fishing are all available within two miles. You can take country and coastal walks or visit local country pubs for well priced meals or shop in the local super stores at Helston and Penzance. There are a wealth of gardens to explore. The mines at Lelant, Geevor, Bottalack and Poldark are a short drive away. The Minack Theatre and Porthcurno beach are well worth a visit. There are world famous art galleries at St Ives and Newlyn.

Convenient & Pet friendly

For us ,the convenience of position to where we wished to go and the easy access from car park to cottage was excellent, the bonus being we could take our dog although at extra cost. The only comment was that the cottage was rather dark looking due to dark coloured furniture and paint work. Our own home is a 200 year old cottage but we have light furniture and white paintwork!

Pen at Chycarne Farm

We were met with a warm welcome and found the cottage clean and comfortable. The only criiticism we have is that there was only a two-seater sofa provided for relaxing in and no easy chair for the third adult of our party.

Another wonderful stay

Our second year at Chycarne Farm and first time in Pen. It's a lovely setting with comfortable cottages. The facilities are perfect and the owners are really friendly. The area offers plenty of walking and beaches which we took full advantage of. I would definitely stay here again.

Peaceful break

Excellent location, ideal for dog walking on site and within the area, the dog excercise field on site is a great idea. Many locations to visit although the beach restrictions(no dogs on beaches before 1st October) is restrictive.

A great position for touring the area.

We found Penn cottage in a great position for easy touring of southern Cornwall. The outlook there was lovely and the environment peaceful. Penn cottage was quite small for 3 of us but adequately as we spent most of our time out and about.

Excellent, Quiet, Friendly and a Good Value for Money Farm House

We Stayed at Pen House for a week, Cost less than others compared, Very good value for money spent, Nice location, Friendly & Helpful Owners. This location was handy for us since we chose and stayed in the Middle Ashton and to communicate each day to cover different directions, We drove first day to Lands End, 2nd day to Lizard, 3rd day to Falmouth, Then to St.Ives and Marazion. All was easy for us to communicate with Pen Farm location, They have huge garden lawn walk for evenings, You also have seating arrangement in the open garden and it is really beautiful when sun is out, You have Seaview from garden, Binoculars may be handy, They also have a Big Chess on the Garden lawn for entertainment. Wifi is also good, But do you really want to be spending time in the farm with TV & Wifi?? than out of the farm for an evening walk?? Caravan Parking overnights are next by, Not a disturbance this is definitely a Safe place and will highly recommend. Regards Tanya Prem

July stay in Pen at Chycarne Farm

My Aunt and I had a very enjoyable stay, we were well placed for all the places we wanted to go. There were plenty of easily accessible walks for my dog without having to get in the car. We were of course, very fortunate in the weather. The gardens and grounds were beautiful and well kept and the on site facilities were more than adequate.

So good we have all ready re-booked

A very nice place to stay with everything you need at hand, The kitchen has all items you would need, The lounge has a good TV with free view satellite, a dvd player and a base unit you can plug your iplayer into. Its an ideal location with some lovely views of the countryside and the sea. There is also a very handy safe field to run the dog in just across the way. PEN has a lovely homely feel about it. It is very quick to warm the place up, its all double glazed throughout. I loved it, so much so we have just arrived back home and rebooked again.
