New Quay Lodge forming part of this prominent building is located right on the waterfront in Flushing, across the river from Falmouth. Overlooking the river from the first floor windows, there is always something to watch in the active harbour. Originally constructed in 1703 this historic building was originally the home of a Merchant Ship Captain and is now Grade II listed and split into 2 separate properties. Flushing is a quiet village with some great village walks around the headland to Mylor. It is also linked to Falmouth via a short passenger ferry ride from the quay which is a short walk from the house.

The house is laid out in reverse style with a double and twin bedroom on the ground floor. The twin room also has a pull out bed making this a triple room. The magnificent hallway and grand staircase lead to the living room and kitchen diner at first floor level which have superb views over the river and across to Falmouth. There is a small double bedroom on the first floor, but please do bear in mind that this is a small room with restricted access to one side of the bed. The back garden at New Quay Lodge is simply delightful. A lower patio garden with a higher level deck area which also has views over towards Falmouth. The garden gets good sunshine for much of the day and is a private and tranquil place to relax.

Accommodation
Ground Floor: Master double bedroom with built in wardrobes, grand twin / triple room, utility area, family bathroom with separate shower.
First Floor: Double bedroom, shower room, living room, kitchen / dining room.
Exterior: Lower level patio area with picnic table. Upper patio deck area with sun house and BBQ.

Facilities & Services
Heating is via night storage heaters. The kitchen has a range of modern equipment. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge / freezer and dishwasher. The sitting area has a digital TV & DVD player. WiFi is available. There is an iron & ironing board. There is a separate utility area with a combined washer dryer machine.

Miscellaneous
Electricity, heating, bed linen & towels are all included but you will need to provide your own beach towels. There is parking available for a car on the rear private & secure space. Regrettably, pets are not permitted. Regrettably no smoking is allowed. There is a cot available upon request.

General Booking Information
Arrival / Departure is normally a Saturday.
Shortbreaks are available during quieter periods.
£100 pre-authorised to your credit or debit card as a security deposit is required.

Originally named Nankersey, meaning valley of the reed swamp, the village was given its name by Dutch engineers from Flushing in the Netherlands who built the three main quays in the village. The grand houses on St Peter's Hill, the road that leads into the village, were owned by captains of the packet ships (mail boats) that docked in nearby Falmouth. The Spanish Armada intended to land here in their attack on England but they were not able to capture it.

Due to its position, Flushing is said to be one of the warmest villages in the United Kingdom. The beaches at Kiln are extremely popular in the summer months, offering superb views of Falmouth Docks, the Carrick Roads and St. Anthony's Head. There are two pubs, the Royal Standard on St Peter's Hill and the Seven Stars on Trefusis Road opposite Fish Cross. There is also a fish restaurant, formerly the Sticky Prawn, now the Quay Cafe located on Ferry Quay. Flushing Regatta Week is held annually during late July or early August, and features water-based activities such as bathtub racing, rowing, swimming and sailing races, sand-castle building contests, a mini-marathon through Mylor and Flushing, an open-air church service, a pub quiz, crab catching and a carnival on Saturday night, and has achieved marked popularity locally.

November in Cornwall?

November in Cornwall? Yes, we struck it lucky with the weather. Flushing is very quiet, but a good location for walking, bus or ferry into Falmouth and visits to gardens like Heligan and Trelissick. Two local pubs and a well stocked village store cater for the cottage. We went to Rick Stein's Falmouth, a short walk from the ferry. On Tuesdays they offer a £6 fish & chip lunch, but we had the fixed price menu of two or three courses, for a very reasonable price. The property has storage heaters, underfloor heating in the downstairs bathroom and additional fan heaters & so nice and warm. Although too cold to sit out in the courtyard garden the flowers like roses were still out.

Historic but homely house

We enjoyed staying in a spacious historic house with good views accross the river. We had 2 meals in the 7 stars and both times excellent pub food. We also had a meal in the Waterside restaurant which was good but limited menu. It was very quiet. Did not bother with rear parking space every time as there was space on the road and steep approach to lane and driveway and tow bar came close to touching the ground. Bins and recycling to do during the visit but it was very windy on night before so rather than have it blown all over the road we took it all to the local recycling centre the next day. Having 2 bathrooms was very useful. The heated bathroom floor was particularly good and avoided wet floors and nice to walk on. We didn't spend a lot of time in the house but there weren't any problems. We knew we could contact Lyn the housekeeper if problems but fortunately we did not have to bother her. Lots of books on the shelves with interesting choice in th case of a couple of the books! A very enjoyable stay and I would love to stay there again. Thank you to Lyn for taking good care of the house.

New Quay Lodge

I stayed at New Quay Lodge for a week in the school holidays with my friend and her two small children. The house is lovely with views to die for , the layout suited us and the location in Flushing was ideal . It was lovely to be in a village but no distance from Falmouth and all the beaches.

holiday stay at New Quay Lodge

Family of 4 (adults) enjoyed a very good holiday at New Quay Lodge. The location was good for travelling to other points, used the ferry crossing to Falmouth from Flushing. The house felt very homely and a welcome pack of flowers coffee and biscuits a nice touch .An information pack was also very helpful Home is very well equipped and furnishings tasteful and restful. We met Lynn the landlady once who is very friendly and welcoming The second double room is very small and a small chest of drawers the only place to store clothing. 3 out of 4 of us found the beds too soft - but that comment is subjective! We had a Touereg 4 wheel drive so it was a snug fit into the drive once in the drive the descent from garden to back door has no hand rails alongside steps so anyone with mobility problems would struggle These are the only negative points and not major for us. It did not affect the enjoyment of our holiday home which is of a high standard. Of course the views are great! I would highly recommend this accommodation for a Cornish holiday!

Amazing views

Newquay lodge is a perfect place to stay for a family or 2/3 couples. Comfortable well equipped with amazing views across the water to Falmouth. The garden is beautiful although sadly we didn't get chance to sit & eat out because of the English weather !!! Despite that I thouroughly recommend both Newquay Lodge & beautiful little Flushing

Fantastic Views, Perfect Location

Had a great week. Views are simply stunning. The upside down layout takes a bit of getting used to but you can see why its arranged like that. The Waterside Restaurant down the road is first class. House is comfortable with a great history. Not luxurious but fine for the week. Nice bathrooms. Off-road parking is a real bonus - we have a Freelander and access was fine, although the lane outside could be a bit tight in peak season I imagine. Only downside - would have liked maybe more comfortable garden furniture and an empty kitchen cupboard or 2 for foodstuffs.

Lovely views over the Penryn River

My wife and I stayed at New Quay Lodge for a week and used one of the three bedrooms and one of the two bathrooms. We could have used them all, but that just seemed mean to the housekeeper. The lounge was very comfortable, with two large sofas and two large window-seats, which are great to sit in and watch boats coming and going, or the ever-changing view of Falmouth on the other side of the Penryn River. We chose to dine at the two pubs in the village, both of which are a few minutes down the lovely lane at a gentle stroll. My wife isn't keen on seafood - the speciality of the Waterside restaurant - otherwise we would have eaten there too. Both pubs, The Seven Stars and The Royal Standard, serve excellent food at good value and both have a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. One night we cooked in the house which had everything we needed to prepare and cook food. Most nights we strolled back from the pub and watched The Night Manager on catch-up TV using my laptop - the wifi was very good. We parked my Jaguar in the back garden but I required some guidance because space is limited. However, not many cars are bigger so I presume it's not usually a problem. My wife would see me out on to the road because I had to go in reverse. Luckily the road is not a through road and therefore not very busy. The ferry to Falmouth is a couple of minutes walk down the lane and leaves on the hour, returning at quarter-past each hour. The trip takes about ten minutes to Falmouth Prince of Wales Pier. Be warned that most boat trips from Falmouth leave at 11:00AM so to avoid dissappointment don't catch the 11AM ferry from Flushing, as we did, to arrive ten minutes too late. There is lots of info in the house about the local amenities and tourist attractions as well as a large bookcase full of reading material. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Beautiful house with fantastic views

The house is lovely, just as it is shown in the marketing. We loved having our breakfast whilst watching the boats through the well placed first floor windows. We ate out using the local pubs and restaurant in Flushing, all excellent and within walking distance. The walk along the coast to Mylor harbour is lovely. We could not get the Wi Fi signal in the house to work which was a bit frustrating.

All you need for quiet break. Felt like home with all comforts. We stayed as a family of five and could not find fault with New Quay Lodge other than the lighting was poor. That was the only negative as everything else was great and we did not want for anything. The owners are to be complimented for presenting the home in such a welcoming fashion.

A lovely, interesting and luxurious place for two or more people to stay.

New Quay Lodge was everything that we were hoping for and expecting. It has loads of character, a great location for what we wanted, and was beautifully presented by 'Toops' the house keeper. Since the property can sleep up to seven, and we were only two, we had of loads of room. The location and the Lodge itself were quiet, and the views across the creek to Falmouth were always delightful and interesting, even after dark. There are three places to eat and drink within a short walking distance, although we only tried one of these for a meal, and it was good. The nearby village shop is also a bonus, as is the foot ferry to Falmouth which is very nearby. There are footpaths out of Flushing leading to excellent country and creekside walks, with pubs and other places conveniently located for lunch. On the far side of Falmouth the more dramatic cliff top walks begin. For what we wanted, it was perfect, and we recommend it highly. The main downside for us was that it took a lot of care to get the car into the (small) parking space at the rear of the property, because the immediate approach is steep, and the gateway is narrow.

Pleasant stay.

New Quay Lodge is a lovely house situated in a perfect spot for a really relaxing holiday. The house is very well equipped and furnished (particularly good power showers) and the housekeeper Toops was very quick and efficient in sorting out the broken dishwasher within 24 hours. We had a lovely holiday and would recommend to all, the only negative comment I would make is that the decor (and sofa cushions) are looking a little 'tired'.

Great Location and a property full of Character

We have just returned from a wonderful week at New Quay Lodge in Flushing. The Property built in 1709 is full of charm with stunning views across the Fal.. There is easy access to Falmouth on a small ferry boat which departs every 30 minutes. The lodge has a beautiful rear garden again with a view across the river. The roads to access the property are narrow and are a little difficult sometimes to negotiate. There is however off street parking for this property at the rear of the house. An excellent property in a great location.

Great property with beautiful view over the water to Falmouth

We were greeted with a handwritten Welcome card in a basket with a bottle of wine and some nibbles! What a great start to our holidays! This is a really great property, in Flushing, with wonderful views right across to Falmouth. The Ferry going to Falmouth every half hour during normal office hours, is less than 5 minutes walk away, as are 2 friendly pubs, both of which serve very good food, and a little village shop which carries all the basics you would expect. The accommodation has lots of character, and is very comfortable. There are two large sofas in the upstairs living room, a large TV, and the Broadband which we found to be a little patchy at times. The living room and kitchen as well as the downstairs bedrooms and bathroom are very spacious. The upstairs bedroom and the bathroom next to it are quite small in comparison but adequate. There is the added bonus of the garden with the large wooden bench/table, and up the steps (watch small children here) a decking area ideal for BBQ-ing, and - mostly blocked from view by vegetation - the on-site parking space for one car. There was always room for on-street parking within a few yards or so had we needed it! All in all we loved our stay, and would thoroughly recommend New Quay Lodge.

A wonderful relaxing week at New Quay Lodge

We stayed at New Quay Lodge for a week in November. The accommodation was really comfortable. As there was just the two of us we had the choice of bedrooms, we decided on the double downstairs. This was a cosy (not small), comfortable room with a comfortable bed and plenty of wardrobe space. The other bedrooms also looked equally as comfortable with the other bedroom downstairs being rather lovely, grand and period with twin beds. The bedroom upstairs was smaller but to the same good standard. The bathrooms had contemporary fittings, the bathroom downstairs also had under floor heating. There are also two very useful utility areas one with sink and washing machine the other at the rear entrance would be ideal for families with children (storage of buggies, kitchen sinks etc.!). There is a parking area and the garden must be a lovely place to relax in the warmer weather. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. The living room was comfortable and as with the kitchen dining area which were rather open planned had really good views, which was initially what helped us make New Quay Lodge our choice we were not disappointed. New Quay Lodge has to our view a great location, two pubs a shop and restaurant all with in easy walking distance, with friendly staff offering all you need even if you don't plan to venture far from the village of Flushing. We had some lovely walks from New Quay Lodge, to Mylor and taking the ferry over to Falmouth and out to Pendennis castle. The location is good and we found it a good base to explore many interesting places in Cornwall. We enjoyed our stay so much we are thinking of returning and taking our daughters with us on our next visit we would and have recommended New Quay Lodge to our friends. Sharon
