The delightful and charming village of Veryan on the Roseland Peninsula is most famous for its nineteenth century thatched Round Houses. There are five in all, two pairs of which stand at each end of the village and another in the centre. They were originally built by a missionary named Reverend Jeremiah Trist for his daughters. In a round house there are no corners where the devil can hide. A crucifix on the top of each one adds extra protection!

Veryan is ideally located for exploring the Roseland Peninsula and is a short drive or a good walk to the spectacular Carne Beach which, in 2016, National Geographic magazine listed as one of the top 10 beaches in the world! Nearby is the lovingly restored Melinsey Mill where you can relax in a charming valley with a delicious Cornish cream tea. It is wonderfully quiet and peaceful, yet it has a really good local pub, the Nare Hotel boasts superb views and stunning cuisine, it is minutes down the road overlooking Carne Beach The Veryan is only a short drive from the other villages such as St Mawes. The city of Truro is also within a 25 minute drive. The South West coast path is close by and this is one of the most beautiful and spectacular stretches of coastline, majestic promontories, secluded coves and stunning beaches.

The dramatic coastline around the historic fishing village of Portloe is well worth a visit, Portloe is considered by many to be the jewel in the crown of the Roseland peninsula and one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall. Its steep sided valleys has meant that it has managed to escape development over the years and many buildings differ little from when they were built. Sir John Betjeman said of Portloe "One of the least spoiled and most impressive of Cornish fishing villages". The Lugger Hotel in Portloe with its excellent restaurant is only a short drive away and the Ship Inn is also a good place to eat.

The New Inn at Veryan serves food. There is a village shop at Veryan and a Londis store at Bessy Beneath. Supermarkets can be found in St Austell or Truro. Further pubs, shops & restaurants are also available in Tregony, Ruan Lanihorne, Portscatho, Philleigh & St Mawes.
