Great cycling can be had nearby on the Bissoe Trail, the old mining tramway that runs from south to north coasts. A delightful one bedroom cottage in the little village of Stithians. With thick granite stone walls and heavily beamed ceilings, his is a really proper little cornish cottage. Ideally placed for exploring the Lizard, yet close to Falmouth and the north Helford area and within easy reach of the north coast. The superb Bissoe Trail is a short distance away along the old mining tramway and runs from the south to north coast. It is a great way to see this fascinating landscape, steeped in industrial heritage.

The cottage itself has been refurbished during the winter of 2010 by the Owners who have installed a new bathroom and kitchen to the property. It is a delightful cottage, full of character and a lovely place for a couple to stay in South West Cornwall. The living room area centres around a large fireplace (not currently working) with a big granite lintel. The ceiling is beamed and the room is full of character. The kitchen is to the rear and has been newly installed by the Owners in 2010. Upstairs is a very sizeable bathroom and a double bedroom with an iron frame bed. The cottage is a great escape for couples looking for a reasonably central location in this part of Cornwall.

First Floor: Double bedroom with double bed, wardrobes and bathroom.

Exterior: A little south facing grassed front garden.

Facilities & Services

Inclusive electricity and heating. The kitchen has a small electric hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge / freezer. The sitting room has a TV & DVD player. There is an iron & ironing board. The outside area has BBQ facilities and some outside furniture.

Miscellaneous

Electricity, heating, and bed linen are all included but you will need to provide your own towels. Up to 2 well behaved dogs will be permitted at a small additional cost of £25 per dog / per week. A cot and highchair are available upon request for a couple and a young baby. Regrettably no smoking is allowed.

Tin - the powerhouse of Cornwall's industrial past. Oak wooded, heather topped valleys with crystal streams once throbbed with the racket of tin streaming - winning precious metals. Engine houses and stacks bear stark, romantic testament to a heritage borne of the bravery and determination of generations of miners and Bal maidens.

A short distance inland from Perranporth, St. Agnes and Chapel Porth are the Victorian towns of Camborne and Redruth - both produced world-class inventors and engineers. Camborne's Richard Trevithick created the world's first steam-powered road engine in 1801. His achievements are celebrated at Camborne's annual Trevithick Day celebrations in April. Redruth was an astonishing crucible of industry, the Scottish engineer William Murdoch lived here in the late 18th century and developed domestic gas lighting. Today, Camborne and Redruth are busy shopping and commercial centres that share a legacy of handsome 19th-century buildings and a remarkable industrial archaeology.

Further inland is Stithians Lake, for fishing, sailing, sailboarding and recently the stunning wake-boarding championships. For views of the whole region take the roads to Carn Brea or Carn Marth above Camborne. From here you can see St Ives, St Michael's Mount, Falmouth and east to Clay Country. Near here is the Great Flat Lode Trail through the mines and high moors.Cornwall's mining country is steeped in history and is the industrial heart of the county. These days, most of the mining has disappeared, but it is still a fascinating area to explore and is steeped in history. A highlight is to hire a bicycle and ride along the old mineral tramway from Devoran to Portreath or the North Coast.

The harbour town of Falmouth is within a short drive with a number of attractions for the visitor. There is the fascinating National Maritime Museum or you can take a boat trip around the spectacular Carrick Roads or sample the stylish Rick Stein's Fish & Chip Restaurant or Oyster Bar. The Helford River and Lizard Peninsula are also within easy reach. Take a walk along Frenchman's Creek made famous by Daphne du Maurier, visit the National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek or take a drive down to the wild Lizard Point, Britain's most southerly point. Kynance Cove is not to be missed with its white Sands and turquoise water make this one of Cornwall's most beautiful spots.
