Situated just above the village square in Portscatho, a stone's throw away from the pretty harbour and Tatum's Beach, Fern Bank is the ideal base for family holidays, romantic getaways, watersports and scenic coastal walking. The cottage is equipped with new beds, washing machine and dishwasher and has recently been recarpeted and redecorated to a very high standard. The south and west facing patio garden catches the last rays of evening sun and the wood burning stove in the lounge make Fern Bank ideal for cosy nights in the autumn and winter seasons. Like many traditional old cottages it has a steep staircase and therefore is not suitable for those with severely restricted mobility.

First Floor: Master bedroom with double bed and great sea views. Two twin bedrooms both with wash basins. Family bathroom with over bath shower & WC.
Exterior: Lovely enclosed patio garden facing south west, with external furniture & BBQ facilities. An additional small outside room with WC.

Portscatho and its neighbouring village of Gerrans are located on the eastern coast of the Roseland Peninsula, Cornwall, overlooking the dramatic Gerrans Bay. A truly peaceful waterside village, Portscatho is a lovely place for a holiday. There are miles of coastal and countryside footpaths to explore, particularly along St Anthony's Head. Portscatho was once a busy fishing harbour, but now it has become a haven for artists due to the striking light which is particularly good in the morning sun. More than anything, Portscatho is a relaxing place. The beaches such as Porthcurnick, Towan and Porthbeor are simply idyllic and these are only minutes from the village. With a superb local butchers shop, 2 great little pubs and a well stocked local store, Portscatho and Gerrans are a lovely place to spend a holiday. The Hidden Hut on nearby Porthcurnick beach (as featured on Caroline Quentin's Cornwall) hosts regular 'feast' nights - fresh seafood freshly cooked in the open air and also does great value lunches. St Mawes, St Just-in-Roseland, Portloe and Veryan are all nearby and are great places to explore. There are also many lovely gardens in the area including Lamorran Gardens, Trelissick, Trewithen and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Take a trip on the local ferry network enabling you to travel along the River Fal car free which links Falmouth, Truro, St Mawes, St Anthony Headland, Flushing, Trelissick Garden and the thatched Smuggler's Cottage at Tolverne.

Christmas in Portscatho

Fern Bank is a charming cottage- Centrally located with peek a boo views of the sea from upstairs- furnishings were pleasant (though a litttle dated) and ammenaties adequate - A nice little patio garden which would be lovely during Sumer / Kitchen well equipped - linens and towels could have been better quality - We had a lovely stay and would definitely return

Lovely cottage in a great location

Lovely cottage in a great location close to all amenities. Everything needed was provided and the furnishings, beds etc were very comfortable - I would have no hesitation in recommending Fern Bank as it is ideal for families or as we were, six adults who never felt crowded as there is ample room. The added plus was the courtyard which was great for barbecues, drinks, sunbathing or all three and I look forward to returning in the future.

Functional

Ok. Clean and functional. Felt a bit scrimped on quality though - old beds/pillows/linen, small towels, no place to hang towels etc. It was fine for the money in low season but if I was paying high season prices I would have felt pretty disappointed.

We'll be back!

As far as we were concerned, this was a perfect half-term break. A few yards to the village shop and butcher, a few more yards to the village pub, and a few more again to the harbour and southwest coast path... Location would be difficult to beat! Walking from portscatho is truly great in either direction along the coast path. The property itself is well appointed - well furnished and very comfortable but retaining that cottage feel.

Fernbank Portscatho

The dilema ....to book a week in Cornwall to please husband, who required wireless & wood burner, my mother who required a nearby beach, the dog who required outside space & me who just wanted to please everyone! Not an easy task, but Fernbank delivered on many requirements, we were sad to leave. Okay so the steps into the kitchen offered an additional challenge to our dog, & the stairs were steep, but we all coped, as the location, views & the property were excellent. The village was beautiful & offered the shop (Ralphs), a pub ( which was closed due to unforseen circumstances- but there was another if we'd needed one up the hill in Gerrans), the butchers & a restaurant, which was closed as we were out of season, but that was fine as we were able to stroll along the coastal path & onto Porthcurnick beach, which the dog thought was just for her! We stopped for a coffee & some lunch at The Hidden Hut. Fernbank provided us with all that we needed to make our week in Cornwall memorable & we are dying to return next year, if only to experience the sunrise from the bedroom window. A great base & lovely home to come back to at the end of the day.
